This ivy player is insane, consistent ivy range grabs and mix ups in close quarters was fantastic. The matches where close in some sets but it was heavily one side in ivy's favor. Amy tried her best at keeping up but Ivy was just the better swords woman, fantastic sets and I am ecstatic to see soul calibur make a return to the big stage.

Covid I think just completely destroyed a lot of SC6’s momentum coming off of season 2. Sucks, I love the soul franchise so much, but I think SC6 did well enough in its first couple years that we’ll almost certainly hear more in the future.

Amy is Generally considered S tier with Xianghua, Talim, Yoshi and Raphael and is almost always among top 5, even top 3. Ivy is more generally placed among A+ or A(from top 5 to top 15) characters, although i've seen her among the S tiers in one or two lists. One thing is for sure, Amy considered stronger than Ivy by way more players and no 2022 tier list placed Ivy on top(unless it's made based on vote like Eventhubs which is not accurate at all)...

It's actually easy. The just frame version is something most Ivy players just give up on. Too much effort, too few rewards. For the normal version, the input window is huge, which is why Incendiate was able to input it whenever he wanted - during cancels, buffered...

You can input the directions or you can start at downforward, roll to upback etc. As long as you cover those inputs without too much gap between them it will come out.
I hope this game at least gets rollback netcode so that this final entry can last through the years as the definitive competitive soulcalibur entry. I love this series so much
I'm in love with Incendiate! Ivy is my favorite character in this series, and Summon Suffering and Calamity Symphony are my favorite fighting game moves of all time across ALL fighting games I have played and seen (which is a lot). It is awesome to see someone use those move so effectively and frequently as if they were just a light punch.
Ivy is one of the most difficult characters to use, and yet, this dude mastered her. Ridiculous. I tried using Ivy, and omg is she difficult to use. And from what I'm being told, her move command is quite different for every game, which means you can't take what you learned in the previous game to the next game, which discourages players to learn her in the first place.
How is this not the top game out. It’s fun to watch, fun to play, and beautiful. It is amazing. I think the talent in Tekken is deep, and it’s got legacy, so people are hype to see it, but Soul caliber is so fun to watch, and I think it’s got a more interesting system how X is block and you can trap and bait opponents with the feints and the movement is crazy good it seems way more smooth. Also vertical hits and horizontal hits is an interesting dynamic that is way easier to follow.
@@profound369 I'm not trying to offend, but being honest, those two aspects only affect people who play SC6 like a 2D game. That's not the game's proposal at all. Unlike 2D games, in SC6 everything can be countered, including moves inside strings. It means that many times you have to stop attacking even when it's your turn. It's just impossible to play properly without having that in mind. RE is very ineffective against non mashers. It's easy to bait with single moves or strings that contain timed moves or break attacks. It's also easy to dodge and punish hard, doing a huge damage. The cases where you can guarantee a hit are ultra rare, and even when that happens, it's a 50/50 that can pretty much harm you instead of help you. Tracking is also only a major problem to people that constantly try to sidestep>attack or to sidestep fast vertical moves. Longer sidesteps before attacking (if the vertical is safe) or sidestep>block (if it's unsafe) can pretty much destroy players who rely on tracking verticals.
@@fugazy2656 I swear, that subgenre is primed for a massive revival if someone can make a fighting game x adventure game. That way you'd get fighting game stuff and lots of single player content. It'd instantly carve a niche for itself in the market. Something like a much more expansive Tobal adventure mode or a Chronicles of the Sword where you traversed the areas with the character.

I dont hear anyone really talk about soul calibur. I want another one but i honestly dont expect it to succeed financially. I honestly don't know why it fails in the first place and i really couldnt say what they need to change to be commercially successful. What did SF5 have that this game is missing for this to be less successful than that? The game deserves more love.
SF5 kept having seasons that’s all. Bandai namco quickly abandoned soulcalibur, I think because of COVID. But they did say the game sold successfully so I believe SC7 will exist later on.
I honestly think it scares some folks away. While it is fun at entry level there are so many new mechanics compared to the older SC games. I enjoy it but I think its in need of a "reboot". Maybe dial it down just a tad while keeping the fast movement and gameplay. Just my 2 cents.
@E E Street fighter 5 was considered a bad game by most people's accounts. It has sold 6 million copies. In the more similar style, tekken , has sold 9 million copies. Do you see the difference in these numbers? A BAD street fighter has sold 3 TIMES the amount of copies.This is the difference between successful and "commercially" successful. Relative to it's competition, it did not do well. The game is hardly spoken of.
The thing about SC, especially the recent ones, is that they're the second best single-player fighting games due to their RPG-like story modes (NR games are still better single-player with their cinematic stories though). SC may not get a lot of love at tournaments but that doesn't mean people don't play.

I most definitely used her on 5 because they made the mechanics easy for every character on there in which is why I really didn’t like it. Anybody kould pick that game up and do good in it just because in my opinion. I’ve played 6 once but I stick to 4. After watching these tournaments, I’m for sure about to get it now. I was an Ivy main since the first Soul Calibur, but I haven't played an SC game since 3 came out, and I was so disappointed in that game that I put down SC for good. That said, it was interesting to see how Ivy has evolved since I last played her, and there was still a lot to her that I recognized - good stuff.
Old Soul Calibur 2 player here, not familiar with the newer games. How does Hwang's resource mechanic work, the little Yin Yang thing? It looks very interesting. And great matches from all players! I had a lot of fun watching these matches.
Yin-Yang things is his mechanics. Start at 4 and he can spend to use powerful moves. It can go negative and if it goes negative at the end of each round then he have less starting health in the next round. Some moves also drain a little bit of health too in addition to draining Yin-Yang counter. He regains 2 points at the start of every round.
The Yin Yang Talismans have a range of +-9. He starts with 4 and gets 2 new talismans each round. He sometimes (not always) gets an extra one when his health drops to low levels. Landing a Critical Edge also gives him some (might be +2 or +3, I forget). He can spend a talisman to extend a combo (sort of like Nightmare's mechanic of spending his soul aura for an enhanced move here or there) or to activate various auras that buff aspects of his game. Green gives health, Blue gives guard stamina, Red gives Soul meter (and steals the opponent's meter if they're in Soul Charge), and Yellow forces the next hit to be a counter hit (kinda useless IMO as you also need to sacrifice your Soul Charge to use it). Anytime he has 0 or less talismans, he starts the next round with less health. At -9, he starts the round at 50% health and also loses half a bar of his Soul Gauge (I think 2 bars becomes 1.5 bars, for example). Basically, the talismans are a risk vs. reward system.

Did CJ get drugged between his two matches? Incendiate was playing great and all, but if CJ wasn't constantly failing to defend, dropping combos and failing to punish, things would have been quite closer, if nothing else.

Well, almost nobody plays with Haohmaru either, in any case. I think people do not complain much about him because, in any case, Haohmaru fits the world of SoulCalibur for completely, very different than a Noctis or Neagan ,or even worse, an Akuma with projectiles in a game that projectiles are not much of a thing. While, 2B complaints were a little louder that with Haohmaru, she still got a pass, because you know....waifu 🙄

Tekken community is by far the less skilled in FGC and in the other side it is the most boastful and the most complaining! SC is so good, but it feels like it's been desperately trying to find its own identity and really fumbling. SC4 decided it needed more mechanical variety but the Soul Gauge in that game was super clumsy. The whole direction they took the story and lore was also... not.... great. Special Versus and character creation in general had one good idea (the points system for abilities) but got brought down by tying stats to equips. (I miss playing Vader though, that was so fun) Then in 5 they got a special meter more right, nerfed GIs massively but decided that one of the problems with SC4 was that the movelists were too complex/long and everyone got massively oversimplified to the point where it felt like everyone lost half their moves. New characters and story were generally much better but the absence of old ones was still felt. It was a give and take. Experimenting with more "magical" characters felt... mixed. Just... Viola was nonsense, wth And finally for 6 they cleaned up the mechanics a lot. New Soul Charge is a much more interesting thing than it used to be in the 4 and 3 times. Movelists came back a bit but not too much. But they also decided the way to go with the game was to retcon everything starting from Soul Calibur 2, but this time with Kilik as the main character (probably because "china is huge market"). GIs came back a bit, but not to the point they were in 4 (lol no), special mechanics abound... but just... why the whole Reversal Edge thing? Who likes that? At least Azwel is dumb in a funny way, unlike Algol (was that even his name?)

I just found it a... transparently curious decision? Nothing against it in and of itself (and, as indicated, I'm all for a retcon that forgets Algol ever happened) but to me it comes across as very insecure. Instead of progressing their story, they're going back to "the good old days" but also it DOES feel a bit like "China huge, make sure the Chinese cast is the focus! That market is our last chance!". I just hope the series finds its stride again. Mechanically, at least, I feel they're in a good place for the most part in SC6. I think my only real gripes here are Reversal Edges feeling like a generally poor concept and still missing the beefy bloated movelists from the SC4 time.

In regards to three I think any sort of proper remake that involved, at least 2, would do well to preestablish Tira and Zasalamel. Setsuka does feel a bit like she's "just there, I guess" and can't for the life of me remember what was Hilde's deal. But I think that the hunt for Nightmare is a nebulous enough affair that it's easy to bring a lot of that later roster in as minor characters without having to mess with the actual plot that's being revisited. And, as a game, more fighters is generally a good thing
@@VileLasagna . Algol is already in the new timeline story, he briefly appears in Libra of Souls mode (possessing the main character) and he appears in one of the last chapters added in an update in Mitsurugi story, well, only "his voice", but Algol is not forgotten nor retconned. Sorry for you🤷🏻♂️

Did CJ get drugged between his two matches? Incendiate was playing great and all, but if CJ wasn't constantly failing to defend, dropping combos and failing to punish, things would have been quite closer, if nothing else.

Well, almost nobody plays with Haohmaru either, in any case. I think people do not complain much about him because, in any case, Haohmaru fits the world of SoulCalibur for completely, very different than a Noctis or Neagan ,or even worse, an Akuma with projectiles in a game that projectiles are not much of a thing.
While, 2B complaints were a little louder that with Haohmaru, she still got a pass, because you know....waifu 🙄
@@SeventhheavenDK Really don't know who you think you are to tell which characters fit in that game and not in the other. Tekken community is by far the less skilled in FGC and in the other side it is the most boastful and the most complaining!
Akuma was added in so many games before Tekken and, it is an HONOR to receive visit of the Supreme Master of the Fist only, stupid Tekken players don't understand that!
Tekken 7 is a great game, I took a lot of pleasure playing it but, this game deserves a better players!

Game looks like a knock off weapon based tekken game, might give it a try later
SC is so good, but it feels like it's been desperately trying to find its own identity and really fumbling.
SC4 decided it needed more mechanical variety but the Soul Gauge in that game was super clumsy. The whole direction they took the story and lore was also... not.... great. Special Versus and character creation in general had one good idea (the points system for abilities) but got brought down by tying stats to equips. (I miss playing Vader though, that was so fun)
Then in 5 they got a special meter more right, nerfed GIs massively but decided that one of the problems with SC4 was that the movelists were too complex/long and everyone got massively oversimplified to the point where it felt like everyone lost half their moves. New characters and story were generally much better but the absence of old ones was still felt. It was a give and take. Experimenting with more "magical" characters felt... mixed. Just... Viola was nonsense, wth
And finally for 6 they cleaned up the mechanics a lot. New Soul Charge is a much more interesting thing than it used to be in the 4 and 3 times. Movelists came back a bit but not too much. But they also decided the way to go with the game was to retcon everything starting from Soul Calibur 2, but this time with Kilik as the main character (probably because "china is huge market"). GIs came back a bit, but not to the point they were in 4 (lol no), special mechanics abound... but just... why the whole Reversal Edge thing? Who likes that? At least Azwel is dumb in a funny way, unlike Algol (was that even his name?)
Kilik was the main character of soul calibur 1 so that's why he's the main character in 6
@@jorthebjoestar Oh... so they've mashed 1 and 2 together then? Thinking now, I'm pretty sure I'm a bit confused by the story before 2 (not that SC lore is not increasingly nonsense anyway, lol).
I just found it a... transparently curious decision? Nothing against it in and of itself (and, as indicated, I'm all for a retcon that forgets Algol ever happened) but to me it comes across as very insecure. Instead of progressing their story, they're going back to "the good old days" but also it DOES feel a bit like "China huge, make sure the Chinese cast is the focus! That market is our last chance!". I just hope the series finds its stride again.
Mechanically, at least, I feel they're in a good place for the most part in SC6. I think my only real gripes here are Reversal Edges feeling like a generally poor concept and still missing the beefy bloated movelists from the SC4 time.

@@jorthebjoestar Oh yeah... I was trying to suppress Algol. Just amazing how much I disliked that character and what he did to the vibes of that game.
In regards to three I think any sort of proper remake that involved, at least 2, would do well to preestablish Tira and Zasalamel. Setsuka does feel a bit like she's "just there, I guess" and can't for the life of me remember what was Hilde's deal. But I think that the hunt for Nightmare is a nebulous enough affair that it's easy to bring a lot of that later roster in as minor characters without having to mess with the actual plot that's being revisited. And, as a game, more fighters is generally a good thing
@@VileLasagna . Algol is already in the new timeline story, he briefly appears in Libra of Souls mode (possessing the main character) and he appears in one of the last chapters added in an update in Mitsurugi story, well, only "his voice", but Algol is not forgotten nor retconned. Sorry for you🤷🏻♂️
