Indian Stand up comic Jeeveshu Ahluwalia's job is making people laugh….
But, his life hasn’t always been a bed of roses.
His father passed away when he was only 4. He and his younger brother were brought up by his mother, someone who features prominently in his stand up acts….and in his home videos!
He’s worked as a waiter and pizza delivery boy
an usher in a movie theatre, a door to door salesman and at a call centre.
Along the way, he’s also thrown his weight around…well, quite literally….in 2019…he began working out seriously ….losing over 30 kilograms ….going from 115 kg to 84 kg and it’s certainly not been a WAIST of time! He’s reduced his waist from 50 inches to a size 34!
He’s battled depression, feelings of hopelessness and admits to contemplating suicide!

    Key Highlights of Interview.
    - @2:14 - You only describe your limitations you don’t get.
    - @2:37 - It was my defense mechanism which kind on build to humor.
    - @2:54 - Are you a fat comedian or comedian who is fat?
    - @3:07 - Must lose a weight, because it’s a depressing feeling not to look good.
    - @3:32 - Jo baeith kar gaeyan baant’ta hae us kae paas zeyada tar nahee hota hae, ya jo gaeyaan baant raha hae us kae paas sab kuch hota hae.
    - @3:45 - Hamay aspirations upar say miltay hae, hum daekhtay nechay hae, aur kartay kuch nahee hae.
    - @3:57 - Motay hae to kya hova, it’s more to love.
    - @6:28 - I was just tired of being cried, I was just tired of being upset.
    - @6:50 - I hate going to the gym every day, I hate going to the gym, people think people love going to gym, no I don’t, what I hate even more is not going to the gym, that’s what I hate more than going to the gym.
    - @7:27 - Har insaan jo khata hae usay pata hae vo kya koura (garbage) kha raha hae.
    - @7:32 - Eat right and work out. Koun say gym mae, maeri bala say to chat par ja kar kar lae.
    - @7:56 - Losing weight is the toughest thing in life.
    - @8:21 - The funniest part or highest point of my life when I was up on the stage and I have very 23 miserable hours of my life, that a very sad way to live, mae din mae sirf aik ghanta kush hota tha.
    - @8:48 - I was ready to die.
    - @9:10 - I don’t think so that anybody can figure out what is depression, hum mae say aadhay logo ko to pata nahee hae kae yeh hota kya hae, because it’s not a physical ailment.
    - @9:41 - Issue yeh hae kae hamaray ha jab kisi ko boltay hae kae depression hae, to pehla word, q hae?, os ko yeh bolna chaheyh hae bazar say nahee lae kar aa’ya, mujhay bemari hae, q hae matlab? Un ko lagta hae, sir par chat hae, gari hae, paesa hae, parhai achi ki hae, maa baap sahi hae to depression q hae? Career acha chal raha hae, aesay kaesay hogaeya? Tum nae kar kaesay leya? It’s one of those things, people ask me. It’s not a matter of choice, it just happens to you, you happen to be there, and you don’t know how to get out of it.
    - @10:34 - I had no idea, I still, I don’t think anybody can figure it out what it relates, you have to go to constant therapy to figure out, that’s what a therapist does.
    - @11:00 - and the worst part is it is (depression) invisible to you, it is invisible to therapist as well, a therapist only knows as much as you are telling them.
    - @11:27 - the only thing they (Therapist) do, which a normal person doesn’t, they don’t discard you, they don’t tell you that you are a moron having this problem, they don’t judge you.
    - @11:41 - I need help, to saamnay wala therapist bolta hae, I understand, I acknowledge, vo pehlay jab yeh bolta hae to I put my guard down, I’ll talk to them.
    - @11:57 - aik apnay maa baap ko batana (depression) bara mushkil ho jata hae, apni maa ko nahee batana chahoga, ya apni biwi ko nahee batana chaho ga, ya apnay bhai ko nahe batana chaho ga, un ka question hoga, “kya hae?”, hamay to nahee hova kabhee? Tum bhagwan ki poja karo, walk par jaya karo, exercise karo, ya hamari waja say hova tha? Hum nae kya galat keya? Hamari parwarish mae kya hova? Kya mae gandi maaa rahi ho, kya mae achi biwi nahe ho? Ya mae acha bhai nahe ho?
    - @13:02 - Tragedy plus time is comedy
    - @13:22 - I seek therapist behavior in relationships now, that is the most important thing for anybody who goes into depression.
    - @13:36 - Hum insaan hae, hum judge karay gay, aap kae kapray achay hongay to mae judge karonga aap ameer hae, aap baray ghar mae rahay gay to mae judge karonga kae aap kae paas paesa hae.
    - @13:49 - Therapist bhee judge karta hae, par vo bata’ta nahee hae, they are trained for it.
    - @13:57 - I wanted to kill myself
    - @14:33 - I was standing on the roof top and told my wife this kae, I this thought use to cross kae if I jump is this is the best thing I could ever do to myself, us jump kae baad if I die, how many things I can go though, my mother would go though, my girlfriend, my dogs, I was just think about it, I think that thought process saved me from not jumping.
    - @15:00 - I think bauhat saray loug kehtay hae vo kayar hota hae jo khud ko maar daeta hae, I think maeray kheyal say bauhat bahaduri ka kaam hae.
    - @15:51 - Hamaray ha maa baap say is leyeh piyaar kara jata hae q kae unho nae aap ko paeda keya hae, hamaray maa baap say is leyeh piyaar nahee kara jata q kae aap ko un say piyaar karna hae insaano ki tarha.
    - @16:00 - Mujhay aaj tak yeh bataya jata hae kae tumahray pita ji ki death hogaye the jab tum 4 saal kae thay, aap ki maa nae bauhat sacrifice keya vo paalnay mae.
    - @16:08 - I can’t live under the obligation to love my mother, I love her as a person, because when I love her as a person I do more for them than being obligated about them.
    - @17: 37 - If you question long enough, question become a comfort factor, sadness become a comfort zone.
    - @19:19 - Not everything has to be accountability, not every question has to be answered.
    - @20:05 - Bina judge keya bina Gautam Budhay he thay bus, jo nahee judge kartay thay, aur koi nahee hae, har koi judge karta hae, aap kae maa baap judge kartay hae, aap ki olaad aap ko judge karti hae, aap ka pat’ti aap ko judge karta hae, aap ki biwi aap ko judge karti hae.
    - @24:15 - Even brain is something that is not discovered too much more than 2 - 3 percent.
    - @24:30 - There is a kid I met, who sit jaesay aap ka TV ka cabinet hota hae jis mae aap TV rakhtay hae, TV Cabinet mae he baetha hae vo aankh band kar kae, he is a severe case of autism, vo aankh band kar kae mur mur (murmuring) karta hae bus, 6 saal ka larka hae, mae bahar aaya to maeri aankho mae aanso thay and wife said why are you crying, I said because, she said he’s OK, us kae leyeh vo duniya hae, stop feeling bad for him, when you are there accept, this is who he is, and that is his NORMAL, he doesn’t feel he has a bad life, they don’t know any comparison level.
    - @26:08 - mae door to door jab sales mae ja kar greeting card bhejta tha ya rasna baechta tha, ya crunchy biscuit bechta tha, bari mehnat kari, ha kuch loug darwaza mou par band kartay thay, laekin mujhay vo loug yaad nahee hae, mujhay aaj tak vo aurat yaad hae jis nae maeray ko ghar mae baeth kar rasna pelaya tha, mujhay galat chezay yaad nahee hae.
    - @28:04 - Absolute cocky, down right cocky, but I wasn’t cocky to people, I was cocky to myself, I buy anything I want, I make expensive purchases without thinking twice.
    - @28:46 - Mehnat say (paesay) kamana asaan nahee hae, mehnat say kharchna bara mushkil hae.
    - @29:10 - If you don’t get out of the bed, you don’t make money.
    - @29:25 - Zindgai mae kuch chezay aap ko tameez say karni chaheyh hae, loan nahee honay chaheyh hae, jo zarorat ki chezay hae vo lou, aap mehanga kharedo yeh nahee bol raha, aap apnay shouk bhee poray karo, laekin vo shouk shouk honay chaheyh hae, vo shouk zarorat nahee ban’nay chaheyh hae.
    - @29:40 - You only become arrogant when you filling the void, I was filling my void by buying things, shopping, some people do by eating, so I was eating also, I go to fancy hotels for about Rs.12,000/- dinner, 12 hazaar, maeri salary 5,600 the jab mae shuru hogaeya tha, how ridiculous is this, I was buying shoes, at one point I had 110 pairs of shoes, aik he brand ki aik he style ki maeray paas 11 color thay, us mae 4 jouri aaj bhee paray hovay hae jo mae nahee pehanta.
    - @31:01 - If you can’t treat yourself with love and affection, the need that required, how do you expect somebody else to do it for you.
    Conclusion;
    - The phrase “You are not fat, you are just fluffy” is a killer, stop making fool to yourselves.
    - We really need to be discipline, either financially, ethically or mentally
    - The planet does not need more successful persons. The planet desperately needs Peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers of all kind, hence these kind of TH-cam channel is kind of need of time!

I love you so much for this interview Mr. Jeeveshu. This is such a realistic discussion. "Humare maa baap se isiliye pyaar kiya jaata hai kyunki unhone apko paida kiya hai", "I can't live under the obligation to love my mother". Someone hits the point!! Respect. And i am in tears listening to you.

This person is speaking what I’m feeling rn. I used to think that I’m the only one who’s going through all these things and that I’m a crazy stupid person.
When he said that he used to go to the rooftop and think would this be the best thing to do but thinking about the people with whom he was surrounded with would just prevent him from doing the worst. The exact same thought comes to my mind every time i think about doing something catastrophic with my life. I could connect so much to him. And yes, big house, money or cars don’t bring real happiness in someone’s life. What he said was true.
Thank you so much for covering his story.

Depression is something that allows you to breathe only and whatever else you will do will give a negative effect on your brain. . .
You r gyming, eating, sleeping, playing, everything will give negative impact on your brain.
The best is talk to someone you trust , that they will help you bcoz you can't do it on your own . And it's completely OK , you don't have to be good at everything. Don't talk to everybody just some good people and it's enough. . .
Last year I was depressed for 20days and those days were like hell to me. Like I feel dizziness for more than 30mins atleast twice or thrice a day and I couldn't find out the reason bcoz I was healthy, drinks a lot of water so there was no chance of weakness and all. But it started to hit me bad and so bad that I used to call my friends at night and ask them to wake me up in the morning bcoz I didn't know that I will wake up or not and I used to live alone too but My friends supported me a lot and really a lot.
But my depression was serious and when nothing worked , one day I called my father at 4:30 in the mornin and told him about my depression and he just talked to me and that's it.we talked over 40mins and that was like the most beautiful talk I ever had with anyone and then I realised that this was not from last 20days, its started 18months back and now it showing it's impact, and that was last day I feel depressed.
I feel so relaxed that he called me again in the evening and I slept over the call, like you can't sleep over the call when your father is on the other side of the phone, you just can't but I slept and that sleep was the best sleep I ever had.
    After that day everything changed.
So talk to people you trust.
    Thankyou

very deep thought and from the past few months I have heard this line many times from my parents that "Kahan kami reh gayi thi hamari parvarish main", which is very frustrating and consuming my mind daily. And they don't even have any idea what they are doing to me. As JEEVESHU said I want to love my parents as a good human being rather in an obligation that they gave me birth. My parents bring me on earth because they want someone in their life or maybe they were forced by society to have kids. But now they put pressure on you to obey them as you are a product made by them. Their parents did this to them and they are doing the same with us. And many of us will do with our kids as well. The burden of parents' sacrifices kills many people.
Our society is not ready to digest this fact that parents can be wrong and kids can be right. As the statement said by many, that parents can't be wrong. So to make myself right, I just need to have kids.

    • @zenbraintv
      @zenbraintv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's a heartfelt note Arjun and we hear you! We are going to have a discussion on this soon! The other thing we would like to discuss is how to set boundaries with others, including parents. While some kids have managed successfully to lead independent lives and take full responsibility for everything that happens to them, many many others have succumbed to "what parents or society thinks is right for them". If you're willing to talk to us openly on this, do get in touch with us on zenbraintv@gmail.com
If you don't wish to speak, that's perfectly fine. We wish you the very very best!
And we hope you LIVE POWERFUL!

It's so good that a comedian is speaking about a depression otherwise nobody believes that it's an illness and as correctly said by jeeveshu that you won't even know if you have this illness. Today I heard about Sushant Singh Rajput and I am watching this. This brings a lot of positivity in me. Thank you so much ❤️ lots of love and hope your channel grow a lot and clicked on the subscribed button and on bell icon

Im so grateful to have come across this video. Jeeveshu sir, may peace be upon you. I hope i dont cry the next time I watch his old videos or attend his show. Another good thing is that he knows he's right and stands by it . At present time almost every 2nd person is in depression but they don't even knew it they enjoying there life moodswings crying thinking over thinking want to commit suicide n thinking if they suicide these things these problems will ended completely they think if I die then what others think about me n then just a few couple of hours thinking again they become normal...

Then i had to face pity looks everywhere and it made me more depressed but you know i joined gym. Worked miracles and i researched out depression and it is simply a chemical deficiency so it is nothing to be afraid of if you know this for a fact. And for that chemical to fill your brain, just exercise and be in sun. Depression is scary but it changes your life. It changes your perspective. Battle it

Great talk. This talk is so so so needed in the current era. Depression feels like u are frozen and the world keeps revolving around you. U can't pay attention for long periods of time. There is no joy and delight in life. If u try to enjoy things you end up judging yourself because you cannot enjoy the same things that you enjoyed just a few weeks back. For people undergoing depression be kind to yourself. Be very very compassionate to yourself. It's not your fault . Please meditate. Start with guided meditation and then once u get what changes awareness brings then do by yourself . Be regular. Eat clean.exercise. use TH-cam as your source. And most importantly give yourself time. Time is the most important factor. Be patient .there is more to you than you think. Once u get to the other side you will cherish the simple things in life and will be filled with love and gratitude all the time. Listen to Eckhart tolle . Sam Harris. Tim ferriss. Joseph Goldstein. Wish you well. Lot of love.

Loved the interview....very inspiring and honest. I can relate to his state of mind when he talks about contemplating ending it all. The existential question of "why should I continue living" is something that many people might grapple with at some stage of their lives. I'm a professional life coach, and until I chose this path after 35 years of being a corporate wage slave, I kept wondering what was the point of working 8 to 5 Mon to Fri, having a 2 day break, and then repeating the cycle over and over again, just to pay bills! The joy from material things tends to be short-lived. The excitement of upgrading your TV or your car subsides after a while. I believe the key to a fulfilling life is to have a purpose....a purpose that is above and beyond financial advancement. When I talk with my clients on this subject, we discuss about looking at this purpose as a lifetime goal with no finish line. You can have other fixed-term goals along the way but your purpose has to be over-arching and limitless.
I will definitely be watching your other videos. In fact, this is the first time ever that I've subscribed to a channel after watching just one video. And BTW, thanks for not adding the usual line at the end "if you liked this video, please hit the subscribe button" :)

Thank you for your honesty! Purpose is the most wonderful thing and we also know that not all of us knew our purpose while growing up :-) But it comes....and you find that all of us have individualised purpose and a collective purpose ...learning life lessons and also passing that on to a larger group so that more people can learn from it. It's the most wonderful thing to find that purpose, isn't it? We are happy to know you have and are helping so many around you! Well done!
