Scotty do you remember when Corvette was used as the Indy pace car. I believe it was 1976. That was the model that was black and gold and sold to the general public as well. I'd imagine they are collectible now.

So *Why* is this 1982 Corvette the last of the C3 generation? You didnt say. My guess is that it's because GM decided to start the C4 generation after this model year, duh.

@@throttleblip1 So do you knock a '55 Chevy because it had a 265 V8 in it originally?
Or do drop in a BB and go for it?? Same can be done with a later model C3. No brainer, dude.....

Short answer because 1983 was supposed to be the last year of the C3 generation but that year corvettes had to be scrapped. It wasn’t until 1984 that the C4 came out.

This is a beautiful Corvette. There's plenty of power to have fun with, along with the reliability factor that comes with factory engineering. With this Corvette, long distance travel is a pleasure. I own a 1973 Stingray Corvette that I have modified towards LS 6 territory, and it is a fire breather. It has been in my family since new when ordered in October of 1972 and shows a little over 11,000 original miles. My mother ordered every option available for Corvette's 1973 model year. I have a great appreciation for Corvettes that are factory stock, however, my 1973 Corvette is ready for the track at Daytona at 175 mph. And I would not have it any other way. Cheers!

  • @david84ss

Love the look of the c3, hated the engine. Late 70s early 80s was a sad time for factory horsepower.

    • @richardmikus8205
      @richardmikus8205 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Corey T The engine was fine as long as one didn't mess with them too badly. The computer's parameters didn't like to be pushed when "souping' them up. There are simple tricks that can be done to get the car to breath better and unlock more power without disrupting the factory system. This car, or any other car from the era still should not be compared to 60's muscle without emissions, or today's stuff. Even Ferrari 308's slated for the American market boasted 202HP in 1982! So don't hate the engine, it did the best it could back then and collectors are finally starting to appreciate them.

yeah twister, i was thinking about those 8 vettes lost when the floor fell out of that museum. because i couldn't remember how many couldn't be restored i looked it up. a 1984 indy pace car was cut in half, a 1990 zr-1 modified in 1993 as a spyder was all crumpled with the back sticking straight up out of the ground the next morning with a boulder inside the cab, and after excavation a custom-made 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 was just an unrecognizable flat mangled ball of metal with a wheel sticking out. the other five were surprisingly restored. they say the museum has been flooded with visitors since the collapse.

The 1956-1957 Corvettes are my favorite body styles, closely followed by the Stingray design. Yeah, maybe this car had to experience the low HP vs Displacement years, but it is STILL an awesome car. This guy has a beautiful car that I am envious of. Beautiful design, mega charisma, before the deflation of curves on the '84 Corvette. Some would say that the later Corvettes were not only a deflation of curves, but a deflation of design. I'm one of those people. Even the current 700 hp+ 'Vettes don't have the 'charisma' of the Stingray era. Faster, smarter doesn't = better. There's always a Veyron for every generation, but Corvette doesn't compete in that category. When the Stingray design ended, the Corvette lost it's legacy. It's a different car now, with a missing history.

I'm happy you posted this, Scotty. Here's my issue. The C-1 Corvettes were made from 1953 to 1962. During this run they went from a 235 inline six with a Powerglide to a 327 V8 and several body changes only keeping the original shortened wheelbase 1949 to 1954 passenger car chassis & suspension. The 1963 to '67 Stingrays were C-2s and the '68 which had way more in common with the '63 to '67 than the '53 and '62 was the C-3. The 1984 design should have had the C-3 designation.

Holy cow, the clock is working!
Beautiful example of the C3. The Crossfire Injection never got the respect it deserved. It was choked from the factory for emissions, but it could be made to be a strong performer for the day. Even stock, it was a good performer for it's time. By comparison, the top engine in the Camaro that year was the Crossfire Injected 5.0 with only 165HP.

C3 is one of the BEST looking Vettes, but also one of the WEAKEST thanks to the shitty emissions restrictions. The C2 had 300 hp, the C3 dropped down to 200 hp, and then the C4 went back up to 370 hp. If it weren't for the EPA, the C3 would had been making over 300 hp. The C3 does 0-60 in like 8s which is like 1 or 2 seconds slower than a modern Honda Accord...

Hey Scott, I recently bought a 1980 C-3 in an almost completely restored condition, its all black with the claret interior its a automatic 350 small blk runs great only a few problems im having with it, im the 3rd owner it has 32,000 miles on its a great running car, here it comes, lol the last owner put floor led lights in it to show a red color shinning down on your feet as you drive, it worked fine for about 2 weeks, I tried to fix it by sticking a screw driver into the fuse box and heard a loud crackling sound, now not only don't I have the red led lights lighting up at my feet, but now the head lights don't come on, plus when I turn the key to off, all the interior lights stay on I get out of the car and the tail lights are still on, so to keep my battery from dying I have to take a 10mm box end wrench to undo the hot side of the battery so it doesn't die, one time I forgot to undo it, and had to get a hot shot, lol this totally blows, one guy says he wants a $100 an hour labor for electrical work , something tells me that's not such a great idea, so because I have been watching your video,s I believe your the man to ask or talk to about this problem, in fact one of your video,s on brakes helped me do my wifes brakes on her 2006 Lincoln navigator, it was a great help, thank you for your video,s there extremely helpful, and im greatful that you post your work it is a great help to be sure, okay now back to my wonderful C-3 ,lol do you have an idea of what may be causing this crazy electrical problem ? first the led foot lights go out, then I stuck that screw driver in the fuse box and heard that loud crackling sound, and now I have no head lights, and all the interior lights including the tail lights are all staying on after I turn the engine off, what a day, when it rains it sure does pour Scott, can you please offer any help, idea,s ,suggestions,?? any help would greatly appreciated , sincerely, William sad and depressed C-3 owner , that wished his car,s electrical system worked properly, agh !! lol thank you for any help Scott, I rang the bell, lol

I love the 82 corvettes. Classic looks and modern fuel injection. The crossfire fuel injection is cool. It does not make a lot of power, but such a unique design. If gm put a little thought into it it could have made some real power. Nice car

Raymond Loewy, Elwood Engel, and a host of other eminent American car designers would like a word with you. The Corvette is not a bad design, certainly, but it's far from being the best.

I'm not a numbers matching guy. If I ever get one of these, which I plan on doing, I'm swapping the engine. It'll be mine until I'm gone, so what do I care how much it brings after that? As long as it's fast and beautiful while I have it, everything else is just details. This car is sweet tho. Well taken care of.

I remember in 1982 that the local chevy dealer had so many leftover corvettes at the end of the year they were marked down to 14 grand fully loaded. everyone was waiting on a 1983 model that turned into an 84 model that arrived in late 83 the first one that I saw was white, and then in the new car prep area was a red one with a one piece glass top. the salesman saw that I had a 1973 corvette and said are you ready to upgrade to a new 84 corvette? I replied I just buaght this 73 corvette for $4000 and was very satisfied with it mainly because it was a 4 speed manual that was a blast to drive.

My parents 1980 California 305 v8 Corvette only had 180hp. My friends 1975 Calif. 350 V8 Corvette has only 165hp stock! The lowest of any Corvette v8 model produced. Thanks to our wacky emissions laws.

Had the same car in college , black 1982 with red interior mirrored t-top was a sweet ride. This was year 2001
It was a real chick and cop magnet
Miss it so much, in the coming years I was able to step up my rides all the way upto a brand new Mercedes Benz AMG E63 s-model , but still miss my corvette , most likely will buy one again and build it to a mint condition probably drop a LT1 in it too

Very nice car. Are those headlights sealed beams? They look that way - if so, may I suggest an upgrade to those lights. I replaced the sealed beams on my K car with Hella units, good glass-faced reflectors and then you can use the bulbs of your choice. The glass face keeps them looking close to stock in appearance but with much better lighting, if you ever drive it at night or are caught in something like heavy rain.

Love this car, it takes you back to a certain time period, a time when before the tunner crowd looked toward imports. The Corvette was a dream car on every poster in a kids room. That said alot of guys rag on the cross fire but keep in mind fuel injection via computer was a newish thing. Not many techs outside the dealership knew how to diagnose them. Once working tbi is reliable.

New technology rushed to market is prone to many faults. I feel GM could have used a few more years refining the Cross-Fire system. The concept isn't bad, really, it was just the execution that was underwhelming.

beautiful car. the world is a better place with cars like that still kept in such good shape. first 3 generations of vettes had lines. next generation after this, they did the same thing they did to the firebird (knight rider generation), took all the lines out and converted them into wedges. it wasn't until this past decade or so they brought back the lines. i can appreciate the advancements in tech and performance over the years, but the lines make the car stand out from the others and make them classics.
