I’ve never done apple picking cos you can easily find wild apple in the some parks in London and they are without pesticides. We do cherry picking occasionally & strawberries picking every year from farms 🍓
The Apple orchards in the states, well at least here in Washington state are normal. It doesn’t matter how old they are , if they’re pruned right and old branches are cut off then it produces new bigger fruit. An orchard can be 100 years old and produced good fruit as long as it gets pruned the right way. But farmers here usually get rid of old plantations and plant new orchards. They never let their orchards unpruned. All orchards here are pruned during winter time. If not pruned and thinned during the summer the. the fruit grows small because it doesn’t have the space to grow and that’s bad for business.
The lament about not having the car made me laugh! I _wish_ I could live without one, but I'm in Car City, USA, LOL. The orchard looks like some of the older ones here; perhaps because Detroit was part of the bootlegger network, the oldest orchards in farm country to the north of the city were let be. I enjoyed this little bucolic jaunt so ThanksForPosting : )
@@EastMeetsKitchen Ah, I would love in a pedestrian-friendly place. My current rental is in a walkable neighborhood, but one must still have a car to get to most places, as buses seem to go mostly laterally, so connectors make you feel like you're in a gigantic game of Super Mario Bros. Or Soviet realist film.
Great apple picking form, twisting not pulling. A true daughter of New England :) Hands down the best time of year to escape to the country.
