I’d recommend First Comes Love by Tom Rasmussen re: marriage. They had some conflicting thoughts on it which I found more relatable than Wedded Wife which is more pro (and more of a historical account). They work well together! Great haul :)
Thank you for the heads up about Psyche and Eros! I read C.S. Lewis' retelling just a few months ago, and I'm definitely interested in reading more takes on the duo.
Eyes Guts Throat Bones is one of my favourites from this year so far! Absolutely incredible. And Patricia Wants to Cuddle was a fave from last year too 👌🏻
Thank you for your book reviews! I haven't read Greek Myths in decades but I always watch your blogs and find them so interesting! So i put your two books into my Amazon wish list and maybe/hopefully I'll get back into reading Greek Maths.
Great haul! That Chronicle series is gorgeous. I only have Monstrous Tales but want to get more. You will enjoy Yellowface. Once I started it I could hardly put it down. I will be visiting The Book Loft during my stay in Columbus next weekend, and your two new books are definitely on my shopping list. I 've already checked their website and confirmed that they're in stock!
The way I saw this exact copy of Psyche and Eros at the bookshop. This is a sign not to fix my cracked phone screen and get this book instead thanks Jean. Also Foxglove King and Celtic Weird sound amazing.
Hi Jean, I just found your channel. I've enjoyed watching your backlist. The Winternight Trilogy made me fall in love with historical and folklore fantasy. I love the fae and other classic fantasy creatures. Eyes Guts Throat Bones, She is Haunting, Tales from Polonesia and Celtic Weird sound great. I've read Spellbook of the Lost and Found and All the Bad Apples by Moira Fowley Doyle and love the creepy house trope. The only horror I like is the Shirley Jackson variety slow burn and quiet.
I’m also so interested in learning about sex across the ages and religions. Thank you for sharing! Also unrelated but that red lipstick looks *amazing* on you!!! ♥️
Really disliked Babel but thought I’d give Kuang another chance and I absolutely loved Yellowface! Hope you’re keeping well and I’m really looking forward to more Greek video essays if you plan on continuing with them :)
Really does go to show how any author can write something you love and something you can hate aha. Some of my favourite authors have books I despise. And thank you! I do. I've been a bit overwhelmed and burnt out recently but I've started work on a new video like my Medusa one so hopefully in the next month!
I absolutely loved Eyes, Guts, Throat and Bones!! Moïra Fowley's writing is absolutely gorgeous and disgusting and wonderful and funny all at the same time
Have you read Parallel Lives: Five Victorian Marriages by Phyllis Rose I just stumbled across it at a local charity shop. It's published by Daunt and examines 5 Victorian marriages as a feminist piece looking at themes of sex, marriage and more. And sounds like it would fit your nonfiction interest at the moment and another book looking at marriage!
Since you've been reading more retellings I just wanted to remind you that I loved the albanian classic Agamennon's daughter by Kadaré so much and I recommend it :D
@@JeansThoughts I don’t know if the book is, but I feel like it at least has queer vibes or she wouldn’t have taken it. Heather is one of my faves though and I’m visiting her in TWO WEEKS!!!
@@JeansThoughts so far yes just finished reading chapter 2, and without giving anything away the way that she has written it, it makes you feel like Eros is talking to you and telling you the story of his birth and what goes on. When i have finished the book i am going to do a review about it on my youtube channel :)
Thanks, did some googling for an alternative and I'll use Anglo-Celtic isles when discussing the ancient history and early medieval history of the area in the future.
your hair and makeup look really beautiful here!
Another Cupid and Psyche retelling that springs to mind is Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis.
C S Lewis did a retelling of Cupid and Psyche, 'Until we have faces.'
Very enjoyable book haul. I just got your two MacMillan Collector's Library tomes in the mail--so excited!🧡
I’d recommend First Comes Love by Tom Rasmussen re: marriage. They had some conflicting thoughts on it which I found more relatable than Wedded Wife which is more pro (and more of a historical account). They work well together! Great haul :)
I loveeeee that UK Psyche and Eros cover! I've felt a little burnt out on Greek retellings lately, but that one and the Hercules one sound intriguing!
Thank you for the heads up about Psyche and Eros! I read C.S. Lewis' retelling just a few months ago, and I'm definitely interested in reading more takes on the duo.
Eyes Guts Throat Bones is one of my favourites from this year so far! Absolutely incredible. And Patricia Wants to Cuddle was a fave from last year too 👌🏻
Oooh I'm really glad to hear that cause I literally knew nothing/haven't read any reviews about Patricia Wants a Cuddle.
Thank you for your book reviews! I haven't read Greek Myths in decades but I always watch your blogs and find them so interesting! So i put your two books into my Amazon wish list and maybe/hopefully I'll get back into reading Greek Maths.
Aaw well if you do I hope you enjoy returning to the world of greek mythology in book form!

Sooo dope you have books in that series!!! Been watching you for ages, you rock

Thank you so much for this! I love your book hauls.
Aw thank you so much! That makes me very happy ^_^

Yellowface is an amazing book.
I absolutely loved Eyes, Guts, Throat and Bones!! Moïra Fowley's writing is absolutely gorgeous and disgusting and wonderful and funny all at the same time
This sounds like utter perfection!

I'm currently reading Marriage, A History, How Love Conquered Marriage by Stephanie Coontz which is interesting so far.
Oooh I will look it up!
Since you've been reading more retellings I just wanted to remind you that I loved the albanian classic Agamennon's daughter by Kadaré so much and I recommend it :D
Just starting the video, but your hair looks amazing!!!
patricia wants to cuddle is so good
All those non-fiction books sound sooo good.
I’m excited to learn ALL THE THINGS aha

Herc sounds so good I wanna read it so bad
I'm so freaking excited!
Heather from Soggy Expat Book Nerd read Patricia Wants to Cuddle on her Spain Pride vlogs 🎉
It's queer?! THIS IS EVEN BETTER! Thanks I'll look them up.
@@JeansThoughts I don’t know if the book is, but I feel like it at least has queer vibes or she wouldn’t have taken it. Heather is one of my faves though and I’m visiting her in TWO WEEKS!!!

British Isles is a colonial term that’s both rejected by and offensive to the Irish 😢
Thanks, did some googling for an alternative and I'll use Anglo-Celtic isles when discussing the ancient history and early medieval history of the area in the future.
