I tried this today, exactly as you suggested, but with only one change - that students win all ties. the excitement this game generated was just off the charts. and would you believe a 10-year-old kid won 50 points on the first playthrough? she guessed even, then hearts and won soda/juice for all three on her team. the team (and class) were so excited that we took a picture of her team holding the victory 8 of hearts. an 'unlucky' loss for the teacher, but well worth it.
your channel is truly my superpower at work, and I almost feel guilty introducing these great games without telling the kids where I learned them from. (my working environment is not great, and announcing that I go to a youtube site for material would be bad.)

That’s an awesome story. You’re right, sometimes ‘losing’ as a teacher is a net positive. Glad the kids liked it.
Don’t worry about giving credit. ESL games belong to the public domain, as far as I’m concerned. We certainly didn’t invent everything we present to you guys. We’re just happy to hear that the time we spend presenting them is worthwhile.
One change I should’ve made to this game was to put a red/black choice over the 10points. It makes it harder to win.

FOR KINDERGARTEN, learning 1 to 10, play the same game without J, Q, K.
And, simplify vocabulary to only UP and DOWN

I'll try it today. Wondering if double down would be a good option when you pull up a pair. The stickers could double if won.

Well... was it still a positive experience?
The last two cards alone only yield about a 9% chance of victory... and that’s after running the gamut of 5 higher/lower.
You can make it harder by doing red/black at the ten point position.
But again, don’t offer anything you aren’t willing to pay for.
I trust they enjoyed the game.
