There need not be any reference to someone named “Jack’ in the song that should only be performed in it’s original form…by George Harrison! Frank gave it no heart/soul. Wrong style whoever arranged it.
@@carlajacobs2464 There's nothing wrong with adding somethin' new or different to a cover - it adds its own flare that sets it apart from the original. Can Frank Sinatra top or replicate George Harrison's original arrangment and the Beatle's vocal harmonies? Of course not, but Sinatra still gave it a go, and I think it's quite endearing that he adds, "Jack", as it fits his style. Also, he seems quite older here so I don't think his voice would be able to give the EXACT soul and oomph he'd probably would've, if he was younger.
Michael Jackson told the BBC that he thought it was One of Lennon and McCartney's greatest ever songs until George - who just happened to be sat on the same record reviewing panel - corrected him. Jackson was really surprised!
Not the arrangement I usually favor but it's great that he gives so much credit to George. How many shows and loves songs did Sinatra come across and this is how he feels about it. Very cool...
there is version from some years earlier with BBC - it's better, not so much hammed up. Still can't touch the original and that is saying something, coming from me, a Sinatra fan.
I find it funny at the beginning when Frank’s introducing the track and drops George Harrison’s name, you can only hear a handful of claps. I imagine most people in that hall in their heads saying, “We made a night out of seeing the Chairman of the Board, Ol’ Blue Eyes. Why is he playing this hippy shit?” And after the song’s over the entire place erupts into applause, because of course good music crosses cultural boundaries, something Frank obviously knew very well. I hope they learned that from Frank that night.
Only Sinatra and Elvis Presley managed to put their signatures on this song without taking away its original shine! Only the big ones can play the equally big ones💪💪💪💪!!!!
Franks performance with this song to me and the arrangement is without question the best song I've ever seen and heard,i am a Beatles fan a David Bowie huge fan.....but this is top quality by anybodys standard.love it love it love it.
Impressionante como as canções cantadas por Sinatra faz com que a nossa mente viaje juntamente com a melodia entoadas por ele, os músicos também são excepcionais! 😌
Frank Sinatra I believe to be similar to Jimi Hendrix in that they both use the fascination of their technology in their performances. Sinatra experimented with the microphone and Jimi with his guitar, they are masterful technitions of sound and derserve to last forever.
Some people might find a little odd your statement but get it perfectly. Sinatra wasn’t just a singer. His technicality in the recorded voice is a standard for a lot of today’s singers. Perhaps he didn’t have 4 octaves of range like Freddie Mercury, or the theatricality of Elvis, but he was a voice virtuoso, from the breath control to the resonance of his timber. He didn’t just grabbed a random mic and started singing. He revolutionized the recorded voice methods, searching always for the best sound fidelity, investing in the best recording studios to reproduce his voice on vinyl, and always with the best instrumental arrangers.
omfg......WHAT A MASTERFUL PERFORMANCE......I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS GUY.....He was really really a great Human Being too, it ...his life, was reflected in his singing...you can feel it...
You see, this is why The Beatles are the greatest band of all time. Lennon, McCartney and also GEORGE! They all wrote incredible songs, composed them and sung them! Not many other bands can say the same! Beatles in a different league. This song, to be sung by Sinatra, and for him to rank it so highly speaks volumes. Superb.
He was right of course - it has to be right up there and Frank would know - he must have sang a thousand songs during his long career. I think it says a lot about the man that he would pay such a generous compliment towards the end of his career.
"The best love song but it doesnt even say I love you!!" Iconic acknoledgment. Frank s version is so classy. It made me dream of having a nice dinner on the top of a fabulous building in NYC with the love of my life. So romantic on a summer starry night.
My Mom just passed away 6 days ago. My DD 33 yrs ago and Sinatra was his guy. This is the one song DD would not dance with other than Mom. I can still hear my Dad singing this to Mom. Sinatra paid George Harrison a great compliment about this song. I was lucky to see Sinatra in concert with my parents. One of the most emotional experiences I have had. All I can think of is Mom and Dad are dancing to this now. I have to believe it. This version will forever hold a special place in my heart😢❤
Exceptionally, a wonderful song and sumptuous interpretation of one of the greatest singers and performers of all time ... Frank Sinatra the legendary in voice, singular interpretation, born talent and incomparable performance and phenomenal charisma ... Great artist, beautiful soul and a handsome man ... A masterful composition by George Harrisson "Something" of Sinatra grandiose presentation and beautiful execution ... Wow ..! Bravo ...!!!
