I never thought of home care as self care but it actually makes sense. I also don’t wear shoes inside and I change my clothes whenever I come from outside.
If you look at your home and your clothes as an "extension" of your body, it makes perfect sense. The state of my home tells volumes about my mental health 😅
Thank you Ana. I have many of the same self care habits, am also a HSP introvert and can happily go for days without speaking or seeing anyone. I haven't done a face and neck massage, so will be doing some investigation on the subject. I find that keeping a good balance of my physical, emotional, mental and spiritual selves works for me. In each of these areas include points you brought up. My life can get very busy though .... and so I have been able to identify the 2 aspects that I cannot live without : creative time and prayer, which are both also inherently alone time. So when life falls apart and requires my immediate attention ... still injections of these 2 aspects keep me sane .... able to think clearly and remain calm. Have a wonderful day.
That's a great attitude to have towards knitting. I will try and remember that when I finally decide to take on a real project instead of just making dishcloths for years.
Hi, Ana, I am also a fan of head and neck self-massage. If I cannot relax and fall asleep at night, I use a small drop of eucalyptus (or any kind) oil on my fingertips, and massage it into my scalp, beginning at the crown of my head. I try to take at least 5 full minutes to massage it in completely, and by the time I'm finished, I am relaxed and able to try and sleep again. Pick a scent that is right for you, and give it a try. It's also good for scalp health. Peace to you.
Self massage sounds so awkward (at least to me), but since I have bought a very spiky brush to massage my scalp during shampooing my scalp feels sooo much more relaxed. The idea was to help with dandruff, but I don't even care about that anymore
That's so interesting to know, that the jaw muscle is the strongest.I didn't know that. I'm a major teeth grinder and am prone to painful TMJ flare ups.I had one so bad about a year and a half ago that I was worried I had a brain tumor 😅 but because of that I discovered a massage technique that completely resolved the problem. I use my Foreo for cleaning my face and also for the TMJ massage, but not really so much for face massage, which sounds like a pleasant act of self nurture. I have been wanting to get a gua sha for that, this video is a reminder to get one.I think it will also help to align my jaw. I think that cleaning can totally be a form of meditation: a cleansing of both personal outer space and inner space. For me,cleaning is like burning palo santo :) Summer time is my season of serious demotivation.I kind of hibernate through it,waiting for autumn to return, while practically everyone else is enjoying the "beautiful " weather.I want to eventually relocate to a place where the summer is cooler, like a mountain range 😅.I have a higher than average susceptibility to heat exhaustion and when it's hot,I just don't feel like exercising, it makes me feel sick. I love to rollerblade in the park in the cooler weather.I miss it so much, that sensation of flying with music in my headphones when it's nice and cold and the air catches in my lungs.I like to go hard when I exercise,to feel it intensely.Gentle movement puts me back into my own thoughts and I get distracted and my mind wanders away from what I'm doing. I used to devote the better part of one weekend day to a rather involved at home "spa treatment" but I don't have time right now to do that,so I consecrate one night a week to having a good soak in a bath of magnesium flakes and some drops of whatever essential oil I'm in the mood for.It produces a natural high.I do it at bedtime so I can slip into oblivion feeling good. Have you ever tried a magnesium soak? I have to have daily alone time, for me that is absolutely non negotiable 😂. I can love someone with my entire heart and soul and still need time away from them 😅 Right now I am having too many interactions daily with too many people for too many hours (my current needs must work schedule) ,which are 99% positive, but by the time I get home,I am just DONE with the entire world. I can't answer one more text or take one more phone call, even if I love the texters and the callers.I need to isolate and reconnect with myself,or I will go insane-at least,it feels that way! Leave me alone to recharge and I will re-emerge smiling :)
I understand you so well with summer! Just can't wait for it to go away😅 Brian and I agreed that we'll settle in a much colder climate as soon as we get our future sorted:) Magnesium baths sound awesome! It's a shame that we don't have a bathtub in the apartment now. Get a guasha, you won't regret it! I use both hand massage and the one with guasha and it feels so good! It's also great for massaging all the stiff back neck and shoulder muscles.
All best wishes for you and Brian to find a cool place to finally settle down :) You have totally "sold" me on getting a gua sha 😊 I can' wait to try it,particularly on along thr sides of my neck, where I have so much tension stiffness... You don't need a bath to benefit from magnesium products! Either just put the flakes in a large bowl full of warm water and soak your feet (which also makes you feel soothed and on a natural high) Or: Consider foot massage.I forgot that one in my comment and am actually trying to force myself to re-incorporate that into my daily night routine.I used to do a foot massage every night before bed with peppermint essential oil in almond oil.You need a pair of socks just for this, nice fluffy soft ones that feel like love on your feet 😊 but that you only use for this one purpose,as they will get greasy on the inside. You can do the same thing with magnesium oil or a magnesium lotion, which will absorb through the feet to the rest of the body. While massaging your feet, you can actually feel where your points of tension are that need to be smoothed away. That is also something that feels so good as an act of self care,a part of the body we often neglect. I think reflexology (of the feet) has many great merits and it feels very nurturing.
I love your self care habits, they are a few we have in common. I too need alone time, like to use nice care products and I also change clothes as soon as I come home, I use public transport and there is nothing more to add to this 😅. Thank you for another lovely vlog ❤
Great to see you, Ana! Thank you for the reminder of the importance of self care. Unfortunitly it is usually the first thing we drop off the list if we are running short on time, so it is good to get reminders!
I love to read, practice various art techniques and sing. I also have to be in nature even if just my garden for a period of time each day. These are the things that keep me sane. I love all your ideas and you are right home care is self care, because it is where we feel safe and nurtured. Thanks for making this video.
Thank you for this wonderful video and for the story of the last five years! You are such a friendly and positive couple and I enjoy your videos a lot❤️. And I like your TH-cam name👍🏽. Lots of love❤🐶😻
I love your videos Ana! For me, is really hard to be disconected of the world events, it makes me feel guilty knowing there´s people, specially children suffering, and yet sometimes I have to disconect because worrying too much makes an bad impact on my health. The art of finding balance is lost on me. Thank you for your channel, it´s been an inspiration. btw, I love your hair too, I always loved short hair, maybe because of the old movies I watched but it always looks so feminine to me, so I used it and then I don´t know if it´s because I live in a very traditional country that I had people always claiming that short hair was ugly on women, etc. I wonder if you would like to do a video about how to be comfortable in your own femininity? I send you virtual hugs!
Hi Edith ❤️ I spoke a bit about my attitude to "looking feminine" in a video about winter wardrobe that I filmed back in siberia, but maybe it will be a good subject to get back to. Thank you for the suggestion! I also struggle with being too emotional with what's going on. It's hard to deal with all this, especially if you're a highly sensitive person.
I suspect your experience of chronic illness shapes many of your perspectives. Keep creating this work. It is thought stimulating and useful for many of us. Thank you
For many if not most w/Chronic Illness depression and anxiety creep around, Catastrophic thinking, anxiety attacks. Anna you have really conquered many situations, in the midst of war, you got ur papers (as I was freaking out here in the States, yelling hurry up), HA! I know that really helped you 😂.
Such a refreshing video! Though I try to avoid such material, I sometimes find myself getting caught up in content that makes self care seem like something that can only be bought- when in fact the opposite is true! That kind of content makes my self care routines feel inadequate when I come across it, but your video is a really excellent resource for me to revisit and remind myself what the core of self care really is :) p.s. I absolutely love your earrings in this Ana!!
Thank you so much- Oh the quality personal care products resonates with me, as I found out that the products I use that I would say are high quality (organic, holistics) have some « positive, high energy levels » that I can feel from using them. Makes a difference to me. And some are available at my neighbor drugstore, not saying only high prices product ;))
I have recently been advised to completely switch off and lie down for 15 minutes four times a day, as I have ongoing fatigue and other issues from long covid. So far I am trying to build this into my routine and am hopeful that it will help with my energy levels throughout the day. I agree with you about knitting, although for me, it's crochet. And several of your other points ring true for me too!
I never thought of homecare as selfcare but makes sense now that I think about it. Good video! Thank you! I hope you have a great week! ♥As I have gotten older putting lotion on everyday is a must for me.
It was a very calming video and it’s one I know I will watch again❤ You have sage advice and ways to approach daily hectic lives. Alone time is essential for many of us, it took me long time to understand I needed these times as a way of self care. Share some of your cooking and food ideas, I love to try different foods from simple ingredients😮. Since you have moved around a lot have you tried different foods and recipes from areas you live at now? Thanks for a calm chat with us today 😊
Dear Ana hi. Loved this video as I do all of your content. I too value my alone time. I enjoy coloring, by app or book & listening to music. When it’s cool I enjoy walking near the sea 🌊 at the moment it’s extremely hot 🥵 Happy week ahead lol ❤
Happy Saturday Ana! This is such a thoughtful video and I wholeheartedly agree with all your self care activities. I am also a knitter and find it wonderful for grounding me and providing a sense of calm and satisfaction through creating something with my hands. I’m currently knitting a sweater for the winter out of yarn I reclaimed from a previous project - a sweater that never fit me properly. The pattern you are working on looks beautiful in that deep green coloured yarn - can you share which pattern you are knitting? Thanks for sharing your insights. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and I look forward to next week’s vlog!
Oh, I love to unravel and remake my previous projects too! I'm currently knitting a sweater for Brian with DK weight yarn, it's a pattern by Ailbíona McLochlainn called "Saglan pullover" (on Ravelry), it has a very unusual construction and is a very fun and relaxing project! Thank you and wishing you a beautiful week ahead too!❤️
@@anagoldberg I can’t say that I enjoyed the “frogging” process however I’m glad I took the plunge. Yarn is one of my indulgences; I prefer wool or linen and buy the best quality I can afford so I can’t let a garment sit on the shelf if it turns out to be a dud. Your sweater for Brian will be lovely once complete. Thanks for sharing the pattern designer information - I’m going to look that one up. I’m currently working on Friday Anew by Ankëstrick (also found on Ravelry). It’s a very simple design. I love her patterns - they are well written and her designs are classic. Happy Knitting!!
Thank you Ana, such great tips! I am taking a break from work for the next 2 months. Id love to do the face massage course and learn the skills, was that on skill share? 😊
Good for you to take a break from work! No, those courses were not on Skillshare and unfortunately, they are available only in Russian. But I bet there are many other sources of information in English and other languages!
Thanks! Kinda scary cos I've little income now, but I'm doing some pet sitting and dog walking ... Animals are my passion 😊 Yes I will watch some videos also will save 💰 Thank you
Thanks for another good video. I have a question that I hope doesn't sound like I'm trying to infer anything at all. I am just curious. When Brian was able to be with you after I think a couple of years of not being able to be together you referred to him as your husband. But these later videos you refer to him as your partner. Because you are very intentional with your speech which your English is fantastic by the way I just wondered why the switch? Again just being curious I am not trying to have any underlying meanings here!
Hi Shelia! Brian is still my husband, if you meant that to ask 😊 I just like to refer to him as my partner now because this bears a broader meaning. At least for me! He's not just my husband, but my best friend too, my colleague, etc. Partner is the perfect word to encompass all that.
@@anagoldberg thank you for answering! I didn't think that you weren't still married 🙂 I was trying to word it carefully so I wouldn't sound like I was pointing my finger like why are you not saying husband!
