DELA, is an old Jamaican name for a naturally black pretty girl.Short stories have been written in Jamaica about the character Dela who is supposed to be a pretty girl with her natural afro hair !!!And we even have a dance called the "Dela move" in Jamaica which was popular in the late 1980s
Dela in the Ewe language means Savior. She is of the Ewe tribe in Ghana. Someone said Redeemer. I think that’s more appropriate for the meaning of Dela
I think we all have to be conscious of the language we use because it has repercussions and was one of the subtle things imperialists & colonialists used to erode our identity & ultimately our unity The Ewe are not a tribe but an ethnic group. Ewe states were highly organised and sophisticated structures. The Ewe number around 3 million and span 3 West African countries. Within the Ewe are subgroups such as the Anloga etc. Secondly Africans were enslaved and not slaves it might seem trivial but the latter suggests that one was created to be in servitude rather than subjected to it. The Jamaican coat of arms has the saying out of many one people, no doubt this is true and demonstrated by the various words introduced from the Africans brought over as well as words from the virtually wiped out Tainos? and other people that came to Jamaica.
Please jasmine kindly invite Dela and Kwame home and show her how these Ghanaian soups are prepared so she can have confidence in her self. I really enjoyed watching the video. Thanks from Nevada.

This collaboration did not work for me. Was this set up to embarrass Dela because she names her channel ""Natural Ghana Girl"? Jasmine promised something "different", "non-conventional " food that someone might ask "what is this?". Then she deliberately proceeded to order entrees with every kind of food combined into the dishes. Dela was not comfortable and opened herself up to insults from the viewers. Dela's palate (taste buds)is not used to this "non-conventional" Ghanaian food. I would advise anyone to take small steps and gradually add different foods as one develops a taste for any cuisine. The green soup reminds me of the Jamaican and Caribbean "Pepper Pot Soup". It consists of carrots, yam, potatoes dumplings etc boiled with coconut milk and greens (kale, callaloo etc) blended to give the green color. It can be vegetarian or meat can be added. Caribbean cooks usually put meat or fish in soups, not both. The Sorrel drink is a Jamaican favorite.
It was supposed to be a fun video it’s unfortunate not everyone saw it that way. I will not agree to do a collaboration just to embarrass someone. Thanks for watching x

I wasn't raised to squeeze my face at other cultures foods.
@@lovinlifewithlaine Unfortunately you have to blame alot of parents , some have children in the West and they forget to teach them their culture, including the food we eat,
So on point, I believe with jasmine in her life things will surely bounce up quickly.
@@lovinlifewithlaine I disagree with you, everyone is different plus have different characteristics that benefit them. Just because you wouldn't behave like that doesn't mean we all have to be like you. We all have different background/etiquettes. Not everyone like the same food, being cultural or traditional.
I watched the video, she wasn't disrespectful but definitely fussy about the food she didn't like. But she still tried it. She doesn't have to like everything vice versa to everybody on earth. its not that deep, its food. You like it or you don't, moving on. No reason to start unnecessary banter about food.
Natural Ghana Girl! Don't worry, I understand...Being teased about our heritage at school has got alot to answer for!! Children can't enjoy their heritage or even get to know their heritage if kids at school are teasing them for being different.😞 I hope that you can eventually get to enjoy Ghanaian food while you are in Ghana. Thank you for sharing! 💖

Wait, i can think so far, Open minded was Delas final words of affirmation. Take a page out of @markwiens ghana food exploration. No one is saying you cannot dislike a foreign food but when you display zero emotional intelligence towards a people you have lived with for 6 years then its questionable if you are truly open minded. It was annoying to watch from my British perspective in London!

It's ewe name, Delali meaning my Redeemer liveth.
@@brosmawuli8415 It's a remarkable name
Dela in the Ewe language means Savior. She is of the Ewe tribe in Ghana. Someone said Redeemer. I think that’s more appropriate for the meaning of Dela
@@frankbekoe3109 BEARING IN MIND A LOT OF THE SLAVES WERE TRANSPORTED FROM THE GOLD COAST, JAMAICANS HAD GOT THE NAME FROM GHANA !
I think we all have to be conscious of the language we use because it has repercussions and was one of the subtle things imperialists & colonialists used to erode our identity & ultimately our unity
The Ewe are not a tribe but an ethnic group.

I would advise anyone to take small steps and gradually add different foods as one develops
a taste for any cuisine.
I don’t think the video was done to embarrass me at all. I think people just took what was meant for fun and took it too seriously. I appreciate your defence for me though 🙏🏾😊

By the way Jasmine. The title of your video is not right. Is Dela not a Ghanaian? I guess she is an Ewe. I am Ewe too and leaving in the UK but will not behave in that way. It is disappointing and this is doing us a disservice !
Why is Dela's reaction to trying something new a disservice to you? Is she not entitled to not want to eat something? Does she not get credit for at least trying the seafood soup even though she doesn't like seafood? Curious how someone else's reaction to something can garner such a strong response. Anywho, be blessed!
Ok she's Ewe she may as well be non Ghanaian reacting to local food as if it's from Mars and not her home food, so the title fits fine.
