It has to be particularly painful to assemble a collection of things that aren't manufactured anymore and are only becoming rarer and rarer by the day and then see it smashed to pieces and had water poured upon it by passing weather. It's called mitigation, and that's a good mic to drown those things out. I work with them alot and they are LOUD. When going back for delivery, wouldnt even have known a tree went through the house. Your house will be looking good.
well, there is some joy in restoration process...of the tech at least. At least you're going to play around with stuff you wouldn't usually touch for some time.
I watched almost all of your video's and been subbed since 2016. And just like your last hurricane survivor vid, I recognize most of the stuff that's been damaged. I find it fascinating that stuff I never knew existed, seeing it again, now weathered and soggy, gives me nostalgia, because I remember the video from years ago. It might be painful to watch now, but you've created/recorded some good memories. This hurricane, and you showing all the damaged stuff, shifts this channel to a meta-nostalgic level where I reminisce over the time you made a video about keyboard wrist-rests, and made a follow-up video requested by viewers to compare a real baguette to the fake baguette wrist-rest, good times. I"m not sure what I'm trying to say, eventually everything will wither and fade away, Even when things have lost their touch and trace to see, we can hold it dear and vividly, in our memory,
What i find incredible is how many of these boxes was just soaked in water, but the stuff inside is mostly just fine. There is a few manuals that are toast but for the most part the electronics seems fine. Your gaming PC might not be so good though, having water run through all of that GPU and what not is probably not gonna work out well. But the other stuff seems fine. Its just incredible.
@@LGR yeah I am happy for you that it worked out so well, at least it seems so. Could be much worse. Always look on the bright side of life, and you seem pretty good at that. And a plus, there was a brand new windows 3.11 in one of the items which was quite the surprise.
Those Capsela kits will make a great Christmas video. I know that you have a lot on your mind right now and they aren't (and shouldn't) be your priority, but I can't imagine Christmas without LGR 😢 Watching your videos has been an important part of my Christmas celebrations for years.
Oh Clint I’m so sorry about what happened, it’s always heart wrenching to lose important collectable items in something that us humans can’t control. At least you’re okay, sending love from Australia & here’s hoping the rebuild process isn’t too bad
On the bright side at least it wasn't a total loss (such as a fire). It's always so sad when you see a fire destroy a massive collection someone put together, or a huge garage full of classic cars.

Greetings from Cyprus,I had the same Mistumi cd-rom, ages ago. It was a single speed, manual addition and removal of cd-rom but was one of the first cd-rom in the market and was part of a package. Pretty expensive as well back then.
Good to see you slowly rebuilding your life. Keep it up but I don't blame you for feeling nervous every time there is a creaking sound. Thankfully the UK doesn't experience actual hurricanes, but I'm still traumatised from the Great Storm of Oct '87 here at Kent. My 1950s former council house still bears the battle scars.
Much sympathy for you LGR. I'm going through similar, albeit thankfully only at my workplace. 2 - 3 feet of river water running directly through the building, and standing water for over 24 hours. To say it's bad is an understatement. Helene was a nightmare none of us saw coming - I'm just glad you're safe. All of us still here in WNC have a lot to be thankful for.
Capsela!! Man, that brings back memories. I might be biased, but I think 80's had the most creative toy selection. Not to mention the chemistry sets! I also enjoyed un-franchised Lego sets. It was cool to make up my own stories and adventures without Disney up my 4sshole.
Ugh. There was this one time a tree near our house suddenly fell over due to a sudden rainstorm that caused the soil to no longer support it. The tree missed the house by about an inch, in the room where I happened to be sitting. I nearly performed a core dump in my pants.
I randomly stumbled upon this man almost 5 years ago and ever since then I've been so invested in his channel. I just love the style and the laid back nature of it all, but it's still quality content and Clint is one of the few pure content creators that doesn't fall into the band wagon for every click bait and algorithm crazed creator out there. It honestly is super depressing to see all this stuff you've worked hard for get wiped out like this, but you powering through it and I really cannot express how grateful well all are to have you around and still pushing out content and trying to push past the rubble. Keep it up, your whole fan base loves ya!
Really glad that you are OK! Your vintage Capsela were some of my favorite gifts in '84 & '85. I received the 500 set the first year and the 700 set the next. I could be wrong on the set numbers, but I know the second year it was the set right below the 1000. Great times!!

Seeing all this old hardware get to live on yet another day is pleasing to the tech soul. Good luck with the remainder of the cleanup and rebuild process. I look forward to the videos to come!
I'm so glad you're doing OK. Please know that I'll enjoy every video you were about to make with this great old tech, even if they don't begin with an unboxing. The unboxing part is just here in this video. Thanks again for the great content.

Holly cow, I had a memory flashback when I saw the Capsela robotic ball thing. I can't even remember where or what but I do remember seeing them in action somewhere in my life.
If anything it shows how resiliant a lot of these products are, stressed way beyond what you imagine they'd ever have to normally endure, and for the most part they came out surviving with minimal water damage.
Hi Sir! I'm 16 years old. I have been watching your videos since I'm studying 7th class. The very first video I saw about the review of Captain Claw which is my absolute favorite game. I very glad to see you with some of your collection is safe from the hurricane. Thank God. I'm very fond of you.
6:57 I loved playing with Capsela in the 80s. We may still have the basic kit at my parents' place....but we never had the fancy stuff. Have to look to see what we have.
On the positive side of having to gut your house, the new drywall you are getting is better at blocking outside noise so your house will be more quiet. Not that you get much noise out there. Don't forget to run any networking or HDMI cables in the walls if you want to.
I have to wonder if Mr Basinger has some moldy jazz somewhere that he didn't play. Maybe a boxed copy of Microsoft Music Producer that didn't make the cut for this video.
hey Clint! Since you're opening this stuff up anyway have you thought about maybe getting a bulk order of those little desecant packets (like the things you find in beef jerkey that collect moisture)? I feel like it wouldn't hurt throwing one or two in every box you seal back up just to dry out any extra moisture that might be left over and prevent any molding considering you might not be reopening a lot of these in awhile. Anyway we love ya happy to see you're safe and most of this stuff is totally salvageable
Aw Clint, I was soo heartbroken when I saw what happened. I really hope get through this and don't lose too much wonderfull retro technology. Most of the tech you love comes from my age of computing, you may not believe this but my favourite game of all time is Jazz Jackrabbit. Take care, we all love you and your videos dearly.
I hope you get around to doing the Capsela episode! I loved Capsela as a kid. Also that C64 Robot thing looks fun. I could see some robot themed episodes 🧐
On a plus side with the drywall off you could run some CAT6 and strategically placed conduit for running various cords and wires for different components.
Assuming he wants the added expense. It's an insurance job to fix the house and there's heaps of other expenses to worry about, but the opportunity is there.
@@MishraArtificer yeah, saw that. Hopefully gets reinstated during the fix up or he'll have the fun of doing it again. Sure beats having a tree as the centrepiece to his living room... Unless it was turned into a table of course... XD
Sorry to hear about the hurricane damage. I lost my rental to Hurricane Milton shortly after and have been displaced since so I empathize. Hope you recover quickly!
A suggestion I thought of that might look cool as a backdrop once you get to rebuilding your rooms, take all the mice and other peripherals that had boxes you had to toss out, get some peg boards and make a Wall 'O Stuff. Be a neat way to organize and display them.
[mold-free jazz music] Nice touch! Glad you're personally safe. That old stuff exists all over the place, we don't watch just for the old stuff, we watch for you Clint. Please take care and don't get too down about all this.
Man, what a process. Keep at it Clint, I've lost retro tech for other reasons & know it hurts. Hopefully in the future your Sim Mayor wont turn on the disasters again! 🤞
I was absolutely obsessed with Capsela after I got some in a garage sale in the 90s. I assumed the whole thing was designed to run underwater, and shockingly it did work for quite a while before it all started to corrode.
I'm sure you've already had a bunch of suggestions regarding protecting your collection going forward... But, this might make a good case to get some kind of sealable plastic bags or something to put over the game boxes and smaller items. Then maybe stretch wrap the bigger stuff 🫠
Obviously your collection was vast but your situation is the main reason I pack all of my priceless computers like the DEC and SGI stuff in ECS cases, you can get them dirt cheep from government surplus, they stack, and are indestructible and weather resistant. At least you get to restore it all again!
Could be a good opportunity to run some NEMA 6 outlets so in case for some reason you want to run a super high end computer/workstation in the future that needs 240v, and you can just run any computer off the dedicated 240v outlet for slightly higher efficiency.
REALLY glad to see you're okay and taking this massive setback as a chance to make something cool of it.. As much as it hurts to see your collection being moldy and soggy, at the same time it's a trip through memory lane of your old videos at times when you share these videos! Impressed by your resilience in this, Clint!
I love how this is just a strange version of an LGR tour. I know I'm commenter whatever to say I'm glad you survived everything in NC but I truly am Clint, you are a fantastic content creator & knowing that you at the least are still goin is all I need to know at the end of the day
"[sniff] Smells like a... like the back halls of a YMCA in the early 90s, sort of mothball-y." That's... oddly specific. Haha. Glad to see you're getting through it, one day/week at a time.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Clint. Looking forward to seeing a video on your IBM WorkPad Z50 in the future once you are fully recovered from this aftermath. Hopefully your Pioneer CLD-D604 LaserDisc player still works. I used to have the Pioneer Elite DVL-91 which also played DVDs. Perhaps not as amazing as the higher tier models like the CLD-99 but still a neat machine back in the day.
Hey Clint. I am glad to see that so much of what we thought was lost ended up being salvageable. A real shame about all the boxes and instructions/paperwork thought. As for your PC case, I think you should re-house it into the same model case, and you can bring your wood grain panels over to it. And you'll have a spare tempered glass in case you break one!
1:14:08 the switch pro remote and switch from my experience are very water resilient. had both switch and remote go under water for atleast 24 hours and they both work fine. switch battery might be toast my sisters switch went under water as well with it being plugged in with power still on. the battery acts like its dead but still tries to boot but doesnt fully boot up. i hope yours works again
I grew up in Florida and dealt with similar circumstances twice, but that doesn't make it any easier to watch here. I unfortunately know exactly how you feel, but also know that it doesn't help with the sense of loss you're feeling. To that end, I have the same Mitsumi CD-ROM drive that I once used ages ago and now display on a shelf. It's yours if you want it. I hope that your home is able to be repaired and restored quickly, and that through the community and supporters (and insurance) you're able to get back at least some of what was lost.
While anything lost is a shame I think in the grand scheme of life this will be chapter of your life you can look back on and feel stronger from! Plus I hope the house fix give you an opportunity to maybe improve any kind of wall power/connectivity plugs since you have those bare studs at the moment.
That exact capsela 1000 kit brings back so many memories, including that old school instruction book. Got so much playtime, to the extent that the little connector sleeves would crack and no longer hold the capsules together. I would try my best to glue the cracks, but that would never hold long. And then there was the constant drooling over the parts list, always needing one more of this or that type of capsule, or just wanting some replacement connector sleeves. Good times.

Oh boy I LOVED my Capsela kit as a kid. That was a truly newly unlocked memory. I haven’t thought about those for at least 20 years
It's called mitigation, and that's a good mic to drown those things out. I work with them alot and they are LOUD. I work for textile recovery and have to go in houses like yours before anything else is removed. House last year had a tree fall on it just like yours. When going back for delivery, wouldnt even have known a tree went through the house. Your house will be looking good.
New channel idea? LGR Mold Remediation. I could watch this all day 😅
so sad what's happen to your collection, but I'm glad you're safe and sound.
well, there is some joy in restoration process...of the tech at least.
I"m not sure what I'm trying to say,
eventually everything will wither and fade away,
Even when things have lost their touch and trace to see,
we can hold it dear and vividly, in our memory,
What i find incredible is how many of these boxes was just soaked in water, but the stuff inside is mostly just fine. There is a few manuals that are toast but for the most part the electronics seems fine. Your gaming PC might not be so good though, having water run through all of that GPU and what not is probably not gonna work out well. But the other stuff seems fine. Its just incredible.
Agreed, I’m extremely fortunate with how well things turned out under the circumstances!
@@LGR yeah I am happy for you that it worked out so well, at least it seems so. Could be much worse. Always look on the bright side of life, and you seem pretty good at that. And a plus, there was a brand new windows 3.11 in one of the items which was quite the surprise.
20:00 The PC case looks like a Phanteks Evolv Shift
Those Capsela kits will make a great Christmas video. I know that you have a lot on your mind right now and they aren't (and shouldn't) be your priority, but I can't imagine Christmas without LGR 😢 Watching your videos has been an important part of my Christmas celebrations for years.
I'm glad you and a lot of your stuff survived! Pretty impressive how some of that OLD packaging did in the face of a so much moisture
Oh Clint I’m so sorry about what happened, it’s always heart wrenching to lose important collectable items in something that us humans can’t control. At least you’re okay, sending love from Australia & here’s hoping the rebuild process isn’t too bad
I am so sorry for the loss of your house and your amazing tech stuff. Hope you'll try getting newer ones or restoring them to their former glory! 😢
On the bright side at least it wasn't a total loss (such as a fire). It's always so sad when you see a fire destroy a massive collection someone put together, or a huge garage full of classic cars.
Thanks for sharing.
About the Apple TV - You can use an iPhone/Ipad as a remote on the same network as a temporary solution. Have done that a couple of times when Ive been to lazy to charge the remote and ran out ot juice..
That's definitely a situation worthy of a CODE BROWN moment, yes.
33:06 my vcr can't survive just existing, meanwhile yours survives a roof falling on it and a hurricane. that's one hell of a success to me
This hurts my insides in a way I cannot explain. Glad you are alive! I am saddened by the losses.
Really glad that you are OK!
Your vintage Capsela were some of my favorite gifts in '84 & '85. I received the 500 set the first year and the 700 set the next. I could be wrong on the set numbers, but I know the second year it was the set right below the 1000. Great times!!
I loved my capsella! My mom has pictures of me playing with it in the tub and taking it camping to play with in the lake :)
You got evidence of damage for insurance claims with this, glad you are safe
"we can't reimburse you for collectors items" "we can't help because hurricanes don't hit the mountains" "heavy rain or wind isn't coverable"
Insurance is a scam nowadays. They claim to help, but will use loopholes when you need them. They NEED to overhauled and regulated.
@@MystycCheez They'll probably try and play the "Act of God" card if they can. Everyone will be claiming for everything and insurance are gonna minimise payout as much as possible.
@@MystycCheezI don,t think they can insure against because it,s what,s classified as an act of god. And insurance company,s don,t cover such athing
This was a wild ride, haha. It's funny how I felt a sense of relief each time you pulled out an item that was still good. Seeing all this old hardware get to live on yet another day is pleasing to the tech soul. Good luck with the remainder of the cleanup and rebuild process. I look forward to the videos to come!
For those 3.5" floppies, it might be a good idea to tape the doors open to let them air out more quickly / mitigate mold growth.
2:56 me when I wake up in the morning in the Floridian summer
All three of them. 😂
😂😅😅😅
I'm so glad you're doing OK. Please know that I'll enjoy every video you were about to make with this great old tech, even if they don't begin with an unboxing. The unboxing part is just here in this video.
Thanks again for the great content.
I'm very sorry you're going through this. You are one of my favorite people to watch. Your videos are often a personal comfort for me during difficult times. Wishing you all the best and that you're back on your feet as soon as possible!
1:04:19 Right there on the side it says "Storage period: 24 months", hahahah, I get the feeling it's been stored for more than a little bit longer than this.
We love mold-free Jazz.
I am going to put on some smooth jazz in Clints honor.
Apparently he *had* CAT6 Ethernet in there, but it was run through the ceiling...right about where the tree came through the attic.
Ooooooof.
[mold-free jazz music]
Nice touch!
Happy to see that some of the stuff survived.
OMG Capsela! I loved those as a kid, so much I broke them all from wear. (mine would have been from the newer rerelease)
glad you were able to save some items !
I'm so sorry you were one of many who had to deal with this awful hurricane. Just glad you got out safely. Sorry about some of the lost collection.
I’m still so sorry this happened Mr LGR but I’m happy to see you’re still here and doing well!
The big take away from this is packaging is actually like the MVP. So much came out well thanks to it.
Obviously your collection was vast but your situation is the main reason I pack all of my priceless computers like the DEC and SGI stuff in ECS cases, you can get them dirt cheep from government surplus, they stack, and are indestructible and weather resistant. At least you get to restore it all again!
Thank you for continuing creating videos! YT wouldn't be the same without you.
Good time to run Ethernet while the walls are open
I did when I first moved in here, every room had cat6 boxes. Unfortunately the tree took that out since the runs went through the attic!
Could be a good opportunity to run some NEMA 6 outlets so in case for some reason you want to run a super high end computer/workstation in the future that needs 240v, and you can just run any computer off the dedicated 240v outlet for slightly higher efficiency.
@@LGR well it is terrible when cats get stuck in trees
i will see myself out
@@LGRAnother thing for the recovery effort then. Good luck and well wishes.
I know I'm commenter whatever to say I'm glad you survived everything in NC but I truly am Clint, you are a fantastic content creator & knowing that you at the least are still goin is all I need to know at the end of the day
The steam deck one weakness : battery drain in idle. It doesn't seem banged up. It might just start after a bit of charging time !
Loving that you're making some awesome lemonade from the truckload of lemons that this storm handed you.
Keep up the amazing work Clint!
"[sniff] Smells like a... like the back halls of a YMCA in the early 90s, sort of mothball-y."
That's... oddly specific.
Looking forward to that Thermaltake tower and screen, I'll wait patiently to see a full build!
I remember seeing those capsela pieces floating around me and my brother's bedroom growing up. I never had any idea what they were until just now
It's sad to see so many looses, but I'm sure you'll get better staff from now on.
Dude, I got my first grasp of electricity and mechanics from a capsela kit when I was a kid. Super amazing toy!
Lots of my fav youtubers going through some f'ing tough sht rn. It's weird.
I’m so sorry for what u went through but im glad you and your family is ok
I hope everything works out well for you!
Gottasay... that RetroTINK looks really good for "the roof landed on it"
I feel for u bro its rough having to get rid of stuff you've collectedover the years that you love
Good times.
Workin on a ladder today. I hate ladders! But hearing your ASMR positivity dealing with the calamity helps. Keep on, brotha!
You're not alone in that one...ladders are the *worst*.
