While I fully support your point about early digital recording, your timeline might be a bit off. Digital recording really didn't play a significant role until the mid 80s. Most pop albums weren't recorded digitally even until the late 80s, in some regions until the 90s. More anecdotally, most of my CDs from that era are digital copies of analog recordings (according to their SPARS code). In classical music, fully digital recordings became popular a bit earlier, but even those only really took off in the early 80s. Everything before that was more of an experiment, often even limited to 12-bit 32-ish khz, and significantly compressed to combat the SNR of that bitrate.
I have two of the Marantz CD44 (aka Philips CD104. One does have 1540D and have been thinking about modding one, however there is some mixed thoughts on it, and have seen various “levels” of the mods including replacing of the OpAmps with FETs, a more elaborate “Bridge” module that uses flip-flops (presume for reclocking). Unfortunately also recently came up against another small firm in Europe when asked about their products, became arrogant, rude and very condescending, this has somewhat turned me off the idea of modding and just focus on capacitors and griplets and usual service tasks.
@@flaviospedalieri8707 Hi Flavio, Did you mean CD34 or CD54 (never heard of CD44). I am willing to do any mod you wish and am flexible. My boards designed by myself are NOS reclocking modules which I will be selling as a kit with instructions as well as fitting myself here. My mod is fully reversible but I very much doubt you would want to return to the original condition!
Hi glad you're back in the UK again I've got an Audio Research Model CD1 that needs looking at can I bring it round to you I think the transport needs replacing it's not spinning

Your CD1 seems to be high end but as usual the CD mechanism looks very cheap and I can't seem to verify the model (might be written on a label somewhere). The schematics for this model are only available from Electro Tanya but are illegible. I would think the likely cause of you fault is a defective laser diode in the transport, but it could also be a number of other things; I understand AR are now defunct but if I could get a full circuit diagram, I would have a chance to revive it (unfortunately as things are I can't help).
The NOS mod is making a clean signal as intended, dirty with digital noise. I dont get why having dirty harmonics is considered a clean signal. Empirically it's nonsense.
