Aries in that moment was doing what a lot of black people are guilty of.
We like to play The arbiter of what is genuinely cool, as we commonly feel that when something becomes popular without black people also feeling it, then we see it as manufactured or simply commercial popularity.
This has a lot to do with the history of other cultures stealing our style (mostly White people), claiming it as their own, then suddenly becoming incredibly popular and wealthy from things we created.
Key & Peele weren't those perpetrators, however there was a slight bitterness in Aries that made him feel that they were. I'm sure Aries believes that he should be a much bigger name in comedy, and I would agree with him, but that isn't Key or Peele's fault.
Ironically I'm also sure many of the cast of In living color, and Saturday night live probably felt that way about him and the cast of MADtv back in the day 🤷🏾‍♂️
What sucks even more is that Aries should have been the one looking out for these guys and bigging them up. What would have been even cooler is if he reached out to them when the show was still running in order to play a few characters. He could have built a relationship and it has actually been in "Get Out"
There's no doubt in my mind that he would have played Daniel Kaluuya's friend instead of Lil Rel, and been even funnier... Especially with his spot-on impressions of white people and celebrities. now I'm just kind of bummed that I don't live in a world where that actually happened. 🤦🏾‍♂️

Spears has always had a self defeating personality and would rather show his immaturity first than being completely aware of his environment. He’s sort of a “middle child of comedy” Not respected enough as his elder peer and not relative enough like the up and coming youngsters.
The one thing you can’t do or shouldn’t do in this day and age is try to conjure the spirits of comics past and gone because their era prompted the behaviors and caused their comedy to be impactful.
Spears can reinvent himself with different approaches from here on out. He has the talent and understands comedy like a brain surgeon understands the medulla oblongata.
He just chooses to into the operation theater with no staff.

Unless it's something you feel is worthy enough to speak on regardless of the impact; why say it in that manner? Aries has been in the game 30 years and still hasn't figured that out. He talks about not getting opportunities but it's probably because how he comes off. They were two young black dudes on MAD TV and he was the O.G. Do you really think if he has taken them under his wing they wouldn't have looked out for him now? He could have easily been Lil Rell's character in"Get Out", or a writer.
