Some cultural trivia for you (I'm ethnically Chinese): "bao" is "bun" (or the verb "wrap") in Cantonese, so Aldi is calling this a bun-bun kit; usually when we say bao we're referring to steamed buns that have the filling fully enclosed in dough (the most well known example being probably char siu bao, which contain sweet barbequed pork - if you can find any in an oriental supermarket, highly, highly recommended!).
I just love bao steamed buns i buy mine from Wagamama two fluffy asian buns filled with korean barbecue beef. red onion. asian slaw. sriracha vegan mayonnaise. But they are getting expensive and made even smaller like most things now. I top it off with their white chocolate + ginger cheesecake (v) with toffee + ginger sauce. To die for. That is my meal treat lol. May be i will try these because every time you go to order food the price is up a pound. Id like to know when prices will stop riseing youed think all the food is coming from Mars and we are paying for the rocket full lol its getting ridiculous.
Bread, chicken and a simple generic sauce. The cheapest of ingredients but it's still over 3 quid? Paying for the gimmick again. Asian inspired, made in Poland.
It’s amazing the amount of new product coming out of Aldi of late. The shopping experience at the local branch here has improved with the recent addition of ‘self scanners’. It sits at the edge of a new large housing estate so this Branch cleans up, with punters doing a large shop. So it is great to be able to breeze through with just a few items if you wish. Thanks for another interesting review.
@@elvishards8161 The nuisance with ‘self scanners’ I find is when buying alcohol, and it has to be signed off as it were. Even though you are on Camera and it obvious you are over 18 ! Our Local Branch to be fair is also good at speeding punters through the tills, but for fewer items I personally find SS better.
I love self-scanning checkouts, though I understand they are not for eveyone. Normally much less of a queue, and I don't get panicky. Out of the 5 Aldis near me, only one has self scan.
Tesco have some ready-made Bao buns, made by Itso. Three types (Hoisin duck, Veggie, and Teriyaki chicken). Put a bun in one of the provided envelopes and microwave for a minute. I like them. Much more convient than the Aldi product.
Great review Gaz after yesterday we needed a good one they look delicious I think a chopped up chilli would work well with those and you could use a plate for a lid for the frying pan 😉 definitely one to try nice work as always 👏👏👍👍
Lidl and Aldi often sell a "lid" for a pan during their socials kitchen week. I've had mainly silicon one, a glass and silicon and a metal one. All have handles. If you've a space frying pan you can use that as a lid, again has a handle. A plate has no handle and you could easily have a steam burn - no a great addition to any meal. Getting a vent in the lid to reduce the steam is a good idea. (Home and static caravan so usually need 2+ of kit/gadgets.)
Lol what are these never tried them what do they compare too lol you seemed quite taken with then with the sounds of Ummmm *that's good lol yummy yummy 😊
All these cheap ready meal type food u keep eating - I would recommend u research the ingredients: TRIPHOSPHATE and POLYPHOSPHATE before you eat any more.
So I’m off to Aldi tmrw. That looked scrumptious. The texture of a bao bun looks dubious which is why I’ve never tried one. I will now thanks to you. Another great review Gareth x
Just had this to day on the back of this upload, I was a bit dubious about the chicken but it was all very nice.I had it with gunpowder potatoes which were very hot but morish my mouth was on fire after them I think I will give them a miss next time but the bao buns I will definitely buy again.
I was in aldi and saw those but never gave them a thought. I was disappointed that there was no gunpowder potatoes because I went in just for those. Eventually.....I hope.
They look good but I have a question. The weight is marked as 414g, per serving (1/2 pack) is 178g. Unless my maths is wrong 2 servings is 356g, where is the other 58g?
I've just made these supposed to be chicken but it was pork :( I think the chicken would be nice pork was very fatty obviously wrong meat packed loved the buns. disappointed at the meat mix up :(
I've just bought the hoisin chicken one. Kept them in the fridge the day beforehand , i added some mushrooms that needed eating . I rarely eat meat these day's, only because i can't stand looking at uncooked meat any more. And probably more soya in the chicken than chicken. Was something different. Seemed like a different duck and pancakes recipe. Gonna put some more housin sauce on it . 😋
*Spectacular New Aldi chicken Bao Bun Kit Bald Foodie Guy ,wow 🔥👌🙌👏🏻👏🏻* The Bao buns are gorgeous. One of the newer emerging Asian foods . This was exceptional,I will deffo be trying this product
I know I'm addicted to Gareth's channel when he misses a days review 👎👎. So to make up for it, I go through my freezer and cupboards checking if my items have "tab systems" and "easy film peeling 🥴🥴😵😵. A review I'd like to see is the ASDA extra special burgers. I think they're priced around £3.75. But they claim a lot. 81% beef, bone marrow infused, no artificial colouring or flavouring. They do a few different types from Aberdeen Angus to a fancy mixture of cheese and other stuff. The one I wanted to try was the extra special red onion burger. But after a tiring walk to ASDA they were out of stock. Now does that mean they are tasty and sell out quick? Or does it mean their rubbish and don't order too many? I know Gareth loves red onion, so I thought this would be a great review. 😇😇.
Bao buns are steamed dough. Like a cross between a bun and a traditional dumpling. Super cheap and dead easy to make. Chinese street food. Like a Chinese burger.

I do like a bao bun but it’s gotta have greens peppers chilli etc for a true Korean street food experience! I’d try this product but as usual, ‘street’ foods a fortune over here
Love bao buns definitely giving this a try. I’ve had ready made ones from Tesco before I think they were about a fiver each so this is good value. Thanks Gareth
Have you tried the Aldi gyros? Can’t remember if I’ve seen it on your channel or not. Basically the same sort of thing comes frozen like these. £3.59 and the chicken is better than the pork one if your havnt tried it yet.
Hi Gareth from Spain. Looks to be a lot of faff to me so I don't think I'll bother. Are you allowed to show nudity on TH-cam? I'm referring to that naked fridge in the background. The naked mermaids were fine but the fridge, it looks so forlorn
Not sure if you know my mate but steer away from Polish chicken which iceland mainly sell as they have been dosing the birds with Anti Biotics very dodgy for humans
They have lupin flour in a lot of gluten free bread products I'm sure its ok but I grew up with lupins in the garden I cant face eating it. Another thing sneaking into food is bamboo fibre I saw some in meatballs the other day.
a chinese steamed bun. looks like lots of meat. seems good , but for me too much faffing for a very small reward. looks good though. But as part of a meal I would just cook a good meal, as a snack too much faf. Good vid.
Never seen an open Bao before. All the ones my daugher buys are sealed little parcels and she cooks them in the steamer. Hoisin Duck is her fave flavour.
Hi gaz, hope you're all good. Next time you want a quick feed, try the ham and cheese toasties, from aldi. They are super good... in the chilled section....cheers mark. 😁😁👌👌
Have made this from scratch, instead of chicken used jack fruit. The thing that took the longest to make was the buns as used dumpling flour. Got to say after buying and trying Itsu's ready meal version of a bun, making it from scratch was a 100% improvement.
Not sure why but I seem to have become a bit obsessed with watching videos of a middle aged bald man eating stuff from Aldi.
Haha I will take that as a compliment 😄

I was literally coming on to say that bao means bun!
I agree yummy 😋
We do the the same with naan bread 😅
It's the same when people call it the Sahara Desert. Sahara means desert in Arabic, so they are calling it the desert desert 😂😂
bao bun sounds like a disease

I bet a bit of crunchy sliced cucumber would have added more zing. You're right coriander is an acquired taste for non Asians/Mexicans. 🌿🌿🌿🌿

Looked awful when it was frozen, but delicious when cooked!
Need to give this one a try pal looks good,At first i thought hmm that chicken looks rather a funny colour but im assuming its probably marinated?
Oh the texture of those wee buns look amazing 😋
So good!
I always hate watching your videos as it reminds me that I don't have a kitchen as its on a skip and new one waiting for a joiner in the garage.
Why not a plate or putting the foil over the pan not inside?

Yes I can't keep up. Got lots in the last few days.
Self scanners are useless,my Aldi rattles customers through quickly and open tills as required if it gets busy in my experience,,,,,

Sorry, not impressed with that.
These look yummy, I bet some garlic mayo and some chili sauce would be nice with these.
First had them as street food in Vietnam , they usually had pork mince and spring onions in them , always delicious 😋

@Bald Foodie Guy fingers crossed we will get them in Aldi here in France 👍

2 buns ? 1x little bun each!M&S do packs of 6 bao buns, unfilled.
I tried the Pork Gyros and they were horrible. These look much nicer.
About lids! Sizes of pots and pans are standardized, and so the lid of a big pot you have got should fit the pan nicely.
They look absolutely delicious. I'll be giving it a try for sure.
