- From 1958 to 1968 the ITV Wales channel was known as TWW - Television Wales and West. The Channel initially covered both South Wales and the West of England. Politically there had been a demand for an all Wales television channel but economically it was expensive to bring television to many parts of Wales and one transmitter at Wenvoe could cover the large industrial population of South Wales and the Bristol / Avonmouth area. Economics initially won the day! This strange set up means that our early ITV Wales collection holds material from the West of England as well. Every now and then we will bring you some amusing clips from the other side of the Bridge!. In this clip we see an interview with Mr Pidgeon, from Axmouth, on why he installed television sets inside his cows milking shed.
Enw sianel ITV Cymru yn y Chwedegau oedd TWW, sef Television Wales and West. Roedd y sianel yn darlledu i Dde Cymru a De Orllewin Lloegr. Roedd pwysau gwleidyddol am sianel deledu gymreig wrth gwrs, ond roedd y sefyllfa ariannol ar y pryd yn pennu fod un mast yn Gwenfo yn medru darlledu i Dde Cymru ag ardal Bryste, ac felly yn medru cyrraedd y niferoedd uchaf posib o wylwyr. I gwmni masnachol roedd hynny'n bwysig. Corfforaeth anarferol iawn felly oedd TWW, ac mae'n archif cynnar yn llawn o ffilmiau o ardal Bryste a De Orllewin Lloegr. Yn achlysurol byddwn yn dangos rhai o glasuron o dros y bont hefyd! Yn y clip hwn mae Mr Pidgeon o Axmouth yn son am ei benderfyniad i rhoi teledu yn y parlwr godro.
