    Nice review! I recently got one of the first editions, with a copper label and leather box, and it is veeery dark! It has surprised me a bit. Not sure if the newest fancy bottles are such as this release. Looking for a good opportunity to open it, and your review does encourage me!

    Great review guys.
    Torn between buying the Oscuro or the Reflexion. Any thoughts?

      So hard to answer since there is a lot of batch variation. The whisky is honestly not the same as it used to be. Try to get an older bottling if you can. I say go for the oscuro though if your blindly picking one.

    Well done guys, great review and these miniature bottle idea adds more to your reviews. if you could, it would be great to hear your thoughts on the Macallan Rare Cask Black in the future.
    keep up the good work

      Thank you. I am hesitant on getting that one since I was not a huge fan of the rare cask and this one costs even more. But I am sure we will try it sometime in the near future. Will do, thanks.

      I did not try the standard rare cask so I can't compare them But in my very humble opinion the rare cask black is worth buying. It would be great to get your thoughts on it one day. all the best

    Just picked one up for about $750 from New Delhi Duty Free. Hurray for a strong $$. With its 2018 packaging with the swivel box, i imagine they could knock another $50-$100 off by just giving me the bottle in a cardboard box! Anyhow, will wait for a special occasion to crack open. Anywhere near the 25 in taste would be a serious hit IMO for that price.

      Kunaal Khanna that’s an awesome price for this bottle honestly. I just saw it at duty free yesterday for $900 and almost went for it but at $750 I would in a heart beat. It’s 1 point less than the 25. Enjoy.

    I believe Mike was right about this being a Travel Release. Says so on the master of malt site.

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      These releases get tricky because they are Travel only and then all the sudden they are everywhere for the same price so I never really know what the deal with that is. Macallan Rare cask was US release only, but now its in the UK too. Who knows about marketing these days. Its good whisky though,lol.

      +Malt Reviews ya true lol. Rare cask is actually available in Toronto as well now. It's ridiculously priced at 400 but it's here. Cheers guys.

    I bought a bottle of this today in Myanmar. I paid around $750. The store has Mac estate reserve for $190 and Mac 18 for $270. Should I buy estate reserve or Mac 18..? Your reply will be appreciated. Thanks.

      Nice buy, you will love it. Mac 18 but I wish it was in the $200-$230 range. But I would get the Mac 18.

    • @maltreviews

      $750 US it is a good buy considering its a macallan, in a nice bottle and the juice is good.

      The 6.3, 7.3 and 7.4 are the best so far imho. But they do need at least 30min to breath when first opining the bottle. And they all get a lot better after several weeks of oxidation.

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Powerful whiskies like these, especially when peated almost always need some time to breathe. We will review one soon bud.

  • @keithpetersen560

    So would you prefer this over the Mac 25 or not?

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mac 25 is a little better

    • @carscigarsscotchnwatches5158
      @carscigarsscotchnwatches5158 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Oscuro is a leap year ahead of the 25. Not even close. I have had several bottles of both and still have some. The 25 is great, but the Oscuro is so much smoother and yet more complex it's not even close. Much like the Rare cask is way ahead of the 18. And I am not the only one that thinks this. Whisky bible also rated oscuro considerably higher than 25. It's the age statement snobs that think 25 and 18 are better than oscurro and rare cask. The age statement adds at least 2-3 points lol.

    • @keithpetersen560
      @keithpetersen560 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roy, it just goes to show that not all palates are the same. I've never had any of the Mac's mentioned here, just to much money for the product IMO.

    • @carscigarsscotchnwatches5158
      @carscigarsscotchnwatches5158 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. The macs are getting ridiculous and really, there are many good options for so much less. I found a bottle of rare cask the other day for $230, snatched it up. I do think Rare cask offers so much that it makes oscuro and 25yr unnecessary. And it is noticeably better than 18. Glenlivet, aberlour, and glenmorangie all make great sherry bomb options to make anyone happy.

    • @keithpetersen560
      @keithpetersen560 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Roy, if you think the rare cask offers so much and its not necessary to buy the Oscuro or 25 yr, then your ahead of the game. My personal latest find is the Glengoyne 25 and Bunnahabhain 25 while I was in Scotland last month. I bought 2 bottles of the Goyne and 1 bottle of the Bunna. Its great to find good juice without breaking the bank.

    Hey guys, would be interested to know if either of you are perceptive to sulfur in whisky? Apparently some are "blind" to it, whilst others can pick up the tiniest hints.

      Give me a couple days to look a few things up online. If you look at online auctions then you can get balvenie tun 1401 batch 8 for around $600. Thats epic whisky but an auction bottle. I was going to also mention Glen Grant 1958 but that went up to $1200, cant believe how fast everything is moving up. Il get back shortly with a list of suggestions.
