You can still purchase the game on the GameStop website, and then you just put the digital code on the store you purchased it for (PSN for me). That's how I got the game after it was pulled at least.
You are absolutely correct, but I've heard stories from a few people that as time has gone on, the success rate of redeeming those codes is going down. I got it running, although is there any way to get rid of the graphical glitches? They don't interfere with gameplay, but there's a tiny bit during action parts, and a lot during scenes.
River City Ransom is the biggest influence to the gameplay for Scott Pilgrim. Beat em up style, get money from enemies, and the shops in every level just like in RCR, including the secret shop where all the crazy moves via leveling come from. Check out the GBA version to see what its like.

I still have my PSN copy, but the real bullshit is that I paid for all the DLC and due to some kind of data crash, I don't have access to it anymore. Admittedly there wasn't a whole lot to that DLC, but COME ON! I got to play as Wallace, damn it! Wallace is probably the greatest character in all of anything, ever.

13:27 actually I became a fan about 2 years ago and have a friend who owns the game so we are game sharing it on ps3 although I feel bad for those who don't have that option because it truly is a great game.
there is another way to get it, if you have any fat ps3 model or an early slim model, jailbreak it, and find a download of the game from there. it's one of the easiest ways to play it, it was even the main reason why i jailbroke ps3

The best game that finally came back
You can play this game on Rpcs3 emulator and even use a DS4 or Xbox controller and it runs pretty much flawless @60fps.
