Tandem Freefall Parachute Jump (Raw Footage Edit) June 2024 - UK Parachuting - Beccles Airfield

- On 21 June 2024 I ticked off one of my longest standing 'bucket list' items - to do a freefall parachute jump. Strapped to my instructor Callum and filmed by the excellent Nick Herridge I took part in a 13,000ft skydive at Beccles Airfield in Suffolk. I am really lucky that UK Parachuting operates there as it's just a few miles from home and the skydive takes places in full view of my home town of Lowestoft. Video features an edit of the raw footage from the experience with a couple of shots of the plane taking off filmed by my wife (who was more nervous about it than I was!). I hope you enjoy watching this as much as I enjoyed throwing myself out of that plane!

That takes guts…
That looks like ultimate floater airtime. Thanks for taking the leap and thanks for posting!
LOL - it didn't feel like floating though...strange feeling - but travelling at 125mph straight down for 35 seconds just felt like being in a wind tunnel but with better views 🙂
@@davidjellis Wow: neat! Thanks for describing it to me!
Congratulations 🙌🏻 I’ve had a tandem skydive there myself.
Cool - I certainly plan to do another!
@@davidjellisI’ve done 53 altogether, some are on my channel.
@@markrichards7164 wow - I assume you did the course and fly solo? I like the idea of doing that but don't think I will have the time (or the youth) to make it worthwhile doing...will still be doing another tandem jump as I loved it! I will check out your channel.
@@markrichards7164 Just watched a few videos on your channel - surprised you did that many tandems without doing the course, but I fully understand why as it would take a lot of commitment to do the course and I read that I was already over the suggested maximum age for doing it.
@@davidjellisI’m over the age of 55 so would have to do my AFF abroad. I’ve been told could start the course abroad and then complete it in the Uk. Commitment is certainly an issue, I just don’t think I’d just enough afterwards, so progress would be slow.

I’ve visited 12 drop zones around the U.K. Met some great people. In June I had five tandem skydives in 5 days.
cool - it can be really addictive I am sure!
Wonderful jump David. I got to ask you. Would it rate next to some of the best coasters you have ever ridden? You are adventurous in every sense of the word Dave. Well done~

It's hard to compare to any roller coaster ride experience to be honest...very different feeling. What I can say is that this really got my adrenaline flowing and I was on a real buzz afterwards...I can't recall the last roller coaster that gave me the same buzz, apart from the no brakes alpine coaster at Mieders. This has been on my to-do list ever since I did static line jumping around 30 years ago, and I am sure I will do another...it can be addictive, adrenaline!
@@davidjellisIt’s certainly addictive. I was at Skydive Langar earlier in the year for a couple of jumps, ended up doing one a day for five days. I’ve even had two jumps in a day, the second jump costs £130. I actually like watching the camera flyers.
Do parachute plane pilots get lonely on the way down?
Probably not - it's only a few minutes after all.
What I found funny was when they did the safety drill before we went up - they explained what the process was if the plane had an emergency (which has never happened)...anyway, he explained that if we were at low altitude we would adopt the brace position, however if we were high enough we would simply "bail out using the parachutes and leave the pilot to figure it out himself" - I thought that was funny!
@@davidjellis That is funny!
