Thank you, that was awesome. Now finally know what a lot of the words mean & how to say them correctly
Wonderful, Sensei, this is very useful. A few words to add:

Thank you again for your valuable video.
Best part of my Karate class was learning a little japanese.

Yoroshiku Onegai Shimasu
The major problem of this video is now I know how many words we have been mispronouncing in our dojo .. LOL
Great resource. At most, I knew about 50%, probably closer to 30% being pronounced remotely close.
Thank you Sensei - Arigato Gozaimashita
Sayonara
Thanks for Your effort to teach beginners like me to know what sensei actually saying during the class...
I would definitely love to hear the correct pronunciation of the katas.
Coming up soon!
Which style?🤔
In Shotokan Uchi Uke, in Okinawan styles it is Soto Uke. As I am "blocking" with the outer side of my arm TO my outside of my body. Thus Soto Uke.

Awesome & thanks for the part on the R & L sounds.
No problem 👍
Thank for the lesson
Regard from Karate Shotokan in Indonesia 🇮🇩
Very useful. Really thank you so much.
You are welcome!
I appreciate this. Living in the USA many people unintentionally mispronounce these words so this helps a lot to learn how to say it correctly. One small thing that would be helpful is if you could say the word in English first and then repeat the word in Japanese 3 times and group them together by what they are like. For example, putting kicks one after another, punches together, stances together, etc.
Thank you very much! Every teacher in Mexico pronounces incorrectly, I wish they would study this video!
Excellent thank you from Kuwait OSU !
This was phenomenal Sensei Yusuke, most of this terminology I already knew. Some of it I learned today for the first time and some is slightly different, to the terminology that we use at our dojo. I hope that you will continue with some more Japanese terminology, sometime down the track, Osu!🇲🇽🇦🇺😊🤟👍✌🥋👊🙏
Thanks for checking it out!
Please try to post videos on each and every movements & techniques of kata in Japanese Karate terms. Thank you.
Thank you
Good teaching
Thank you. This helps. I think it’s even more helpful to help a list of all techniques and pronunciation for each kata, especially upper belt katas. Thanks.
My God... It's sooo much 😰 I'm a very beginner, I love your videos but... Uh... I knew only about 25%...maybe I've heard the rest of the words but not exactly... Not even the meaning... So I sit down with an exercise book and begin to write them down ☺️ thank you, Yusuke, good as always... Keep going!
Thanks for checking it out!
If you are a beginner and already know 25% you are GOOD!
This video is extremely helpful to me. Many thanks.

VERY GOOD SIR. THANK YOU.OSS.

In California, I have a small book called Martial Arts Dictionary. For a small book, it is strangely complete. Most everything I look for is in there. I’m going to have to look for another copy for my Texas house.
Hi, Wanted to know how would we say move forward and move backwards ( Retreat ) in Japanese
Appreciate your help 🙏🏽
I've only just started karate
THANK YOU , Osss
Nice voice
I just here because tomorrow I have an exam of karate to see if I get my belt promoted.
Hello, My kids are the only non-Japanese speakers at a local karate dojo. I am looking for a Japanese translator who know both Japanese and karate to help me scribe and translate everything the sensei speak in class. I want them to learn Japanese in this particular context. I would compensate your time and expertise. Please let me know if you are interested! Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for the informative video, What should we shout when punching, kicking and blocking?, my master taught me to shout kiaye when punching and kicking and yayee when half kicking and haye when blocking.
Jesse Enkemp talks about that. I swapped it to any of the vowels instead.
Karate Dojo remember when you made a video about Sanda it was the best one you made about it I have chosen it and JKD because the good better and more effective for self-defense and fighting
Thanks!
Why do you use "Enpi" and not "Hiji?" I appreciate your videos and insight. Thank you for listing the words and their time stamps!
In the context of karate, it's more commonly called Enpi...for some reason bhaha
@@KarateDojowaKu interesting.
i am watching this video just before paolo;s university video of yours
Nice!
Great video!!!
Can you explain the differences among the various different kinds of kumite (like ippon kumite, sanbon kumite etc.) in a video? In our school we mainly do ippon kumite or point based sparring which is used for competition, but I would like to know more about the other types of kumite as well.
Thanks for the suggestion!
😊
Very interesting video, thank you very much. One question regarding « Mawatte », my teacher use « Kaite » instead. What does it mean?
I wonder why 'kime' appears written in katakana. Does it have something to do with the verb 決める (kimeru) = to decide?
Hi, sensei, I love your lessons. Please, could you tell me what's the difference between ashi-dachi, tsuruashi-dachi, katashi-dachi and ippon-ashi-dachi? What are the stances in Heian Yondan (kyodo 5, 8), Enpi (kyodo 15) and Gankaku (kyodo 29, 30, 33, 34, 40)? I just can't find this anywhere, the sources switch the terms, so i'm just getting more and more confused! As you always teaches things we don't find elsewhere, please help me to understand this!
Love this!
Thanks!
Wow thank you so much for this! I just have one question! What is “Karate grading” in Japanese?
❤❤😂❤ thankyou ❤❤❤❤
Sir please karate rafee ring men ki video plz makki
I spend more time learning Japanese than I do doing my workout.
At the start I have to give sensi my book to sign but I keep forgetting how to say thank you
I just have one question as a karate student in South Africa, what language or character do you use in the dojo (hiragana, katakana or kanji)?
Muy rapido, siguiente video más lento please
So it sounds like the beginning G and ending U are both silent in "Gozaimasu" at 0:40?
Great video as always. One question aboit senpai/kohai. If have a practitioner at the dojo that has a higher rank (kyu) than mine, but he is much younger than me, who is the senpai?
That depends on the dojo’s atmosphere. I guess if both sides has respect towards one another, the term senpai kohai wouldn’t be much of a problem!
@@KarateDojowaKu 教えてくれてありがとうございました。
I have been taught to use the command "Narande" to tell students to line up. You use the word "Seiretsu." Can you explain the difference between the two words and why you use Seiretsu instead of Narande? Thank you.
Narande is a little bit casual, so I prefer Seiretsu. It's like saying "Line Up!" and "Guys, come here"
@@KarateDojowaKu Thank you for explaining.
Many thanks, Yusuke-Sensei.
Onegaishimasu, I have one question about Ippon. I always thought it meant "one point" or "one-step," as in Ippon Kumite. I also thought that 3 points is expressed as Sanbon, as in Sanbon Kumite.
Am I mistaken?
That's correct. The literal meaning is 1 point. However, it also has a metaphoric meaning for when something is wholly fulfilled. Therefore, as the most complete attack within the rule, 3 point attacks are called Ippon right now
@@KarateDojowaKu Ah, I see now. I wanted to forward this to my classmates, and I know my Shihan would have questions about that. Many thanks!🙏
No offense, but for shi it sounded a little different then she, also amazing!
Muito bom! Pena que não tem legenda em português.
We say a word i cannot find on youtube for moving backwards during Kihon. It goes as i pronouce it a Sekite. Would like to know the correct spelling.? 😊
I see the word "ate" sometime i.e. oroshi hiji ate (backwards albow strike), but what does ATE mean precisely and why not use "uchi" instead?
Hi,
Thanks for the helpful information. Can you tell me, what command should be used to tell to get up after the meditation (seiza) is over?
I personally don’t say anything there. Just stand up in your local language would be fine
Kiritsu
Thanks ! One question regarding the kanjis, I recall someone telling me of a karate punch looking like its kanji representation, any idea which one it is ?
how about "Moving forward" how to say in japanese
Hello, how would you say stand up after been in seiza?
What kind of words or phrases is use when the class ends?
Reacted to tekken 3 jin kazama move list
Thanks for the suggestion!
