    For concentrated tea it's better to use normal espresso machine with pressurised portafilter. I even tried a normal opened portafilter and it extracted a very concentrated tea.

    I went to a coffee shop in South Africa that did a Rooibos(South African Red Tea, delicious) Latte. I think they would grind up the Rooibos in a dedicated grinder and then put that in the portafilter, pulled an espresso-esq shot in terms of raito, and then made a latte with that. Absolutely delicious, I'm still craving it a year later!

    To get finer leaves and more concentrated flavor I ran the tea leaves through my coffee grinder. I have seen some stores grind their tea leaves as well

    Yorkshire Tea is the ultimate form of tea and is beyond improvement. A drink of gods.

    Do you mind going over what changes you actually made to the tea profile you chose? Thanks!

    You should try a good light fermented oolong you can get some interesting flavors out of them. Usually the quality stuff is whole leaf I'm curious if whole leaves would work in there (longer extraction maybe to compensate?) But that's cool if that company provides good tea that's finely ground/chopped.

    Have you tried using matcha in the portafilter?

    Curious if you considered running your first tea leaves through your grinder to make them more fine? I know nothing about tea but it seems like maybe that could help with the problem you mentioned of leaves being too coarse?

      It would really need to be a tea only grinder. It would definitely flavor your coffee afterwards

    I've always wondered if using these tea portafilters would impart a tea flavor to your group head when switching back to pulling espresso. Have you noticed any flavor contamination with your decent?

    • @ryancasey500
      @ryancasey500 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      None whatsoever. I've been using the tea portafilter daily for almost a year and with normal/regular cleaning there's no build-up of tea residue or transfer of flavors.

    Do you think something like this would be able to replicated on a slayer BDB with a pressurized portafilter? 🤔

  • @tyson_J

    I've had some pretty good results replicating this technique on my flair classic with the pressurized basket. The smaller basket seems to help with "puck" depth. I just make sure to hit longer steep times since it's difficult to hit anything above 5 bars with the tea I'm using.

      You actually don't want to go so high when making tea. There's a video where john(decent's creator) explains that the special portafilter is made with a 4bar valve, since going higher than that can create bitter flavours.

    Brian, did you think this process ended up producing a better tea specifically when used for milk teas? Or was it not much different in note/taste when compared to using regular steeped tea?

    • @BrianQuan
      @BrianQuan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Michael, I think these work really well with milk teas or drinks that required concentration to be diluted. I am a complete tea noob though

    • @michaelyu3106
      @michaelyu3106 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, should have been more specific. I'm also a boba drinker! Did this make a better end result boba milk tea? Or would you not notice a difference/improvement?

    • @BrianQuan
      @BrianQuan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly if you're adding syrup/boba/sweetners it doesn't really make too big of a diff haha

    Can you link to your cups? It looks like a nice double-wall cup that transitions to single-wall so it'd have the best properties of both types of cups. I don't like the feeling of drinking from a double-wall cup, but want the insulating properties of the double-wall design.

    Great video. I'm going to make my first London Fog today using your 80ml out with two teaspoons of looseleaf Earl Gray Cream tea with the Decent Tea Portafilter on my DE1. I use the Black Tea Profile. What profile do you use? I couldn't make it out on the video, I thought you said 'Lively', but I can't find that under tea profiles. Thanks for the great content.

    Looks fun. I have been watching your content, but I am still not a Decent owner. I go back and forth getting a manual pressure profile machine or the Decent. I will pull the trigger soon. Unfortunately I can’t get both and experiment which I like better. Can’t justify the cost or the counter space. First world problems…
