You always look good on camera no matter what your surroundings or your physical conditions are. And when you're struggling you talk about it honestly and try to find a positive angle to it💕😃
Stella. I have really enjoyed your AT journey from day 1. I feel that you are one of the most determined hikers that I have followed to date. If I had to pick one hiker that would refuse to not succeed, you would be my choice hands down.
Funny we're saying the same thing about time. Well, it's really 5:30 not 6:30. LOL! Love your attitude, broken earring, freezing and bleeding out but it's great! 🤣 It's interesting how the weather changes with the different elevations. Thanks for taking us along.
I've never hiked Grayson Highlands in the snow, so thanks for sharing! When you get to Shenandoah (maybe you're already there?), I HIGHLY recommend 2 viewpoints right off the AT. The 1st one is just north of Blackrock Hut. When you get to the summit of Blackrock Mountain watch for a blue-blazed spur trail on your left - take that towards Trayfoot Mountain. You'll see amazing views of the entire valley on your left right after walking through this cool wall of rocks. The 2nd one is the summit of Mary's Rock - look for the blue-blazed trail about 1.3 miles north of Byrds Nest shelter and climb .1 miles up to amazing 360 degree views. Enjoy SNP - it's near and dear to my heart!
Glad you finally got to enjoy some winter hiking. Reminds me of the 4 winter hikes I had to make to join the 3500 club with regards to the Catskill Mountains. The trails were usually trodden down by a previous hikers but one time I was snow shoeing in 4 ft of snow! Winter hiking is an amazing experience. Hope your body has recovered and you are on your way to 25+ mile hike today! Forever onward, Stella!
Its crazy how we prepare for so much on trail and get injured by something meant to save you in emergencies lol, glad you're okay. Awesome footage love the snow!
How beautiful it is to be in the mountains when its snowing..the trees turn to crystal and the trunks and branches turn so dark in contrast to the snow…and the sounds in the woods when it snows is awesome…so peaceful…glad you enjoyed it and it wasn’t sleeting all over you
So exotic to see all that snowy landscape ... almost as if you were up on Mt. Washington in New Hampshire in the Winter instead of still down south in early Spring. And you really managed to cover the distance despite the snow! Your performance is faster than any I have seen on the AT. You may be able to repair your broken earring easily with a droplet of the modern liquid glue that works so well and fast, holding the broken pieces together, gently for 30 seconds and if the earring is not made of plastic, you will have a permanent, strong invisible repair, especially if the material is ceramic.
Just stunning snow covered trees! What beauty! Good to see you back on trail. Your legs might be sore because of the down time and then doing lots of miles. Good job with the videos. Always enjoyable. Safe hiking!
So glad you are back on!. It really is a hydration thing. That cold dry air really takes it out of you without much notice until it is too late, especially when you are heated up. So glad you're in a hostel! Check the weather! You are still at a very good pace and some nasty stuff maybe coming.
Congrats on 500 that's so awesome. Your videos are super clear and vibrant and the highlands were spectacular with the beautiful day and snow. Glad you're back out there. Take care of yourself and enjoy every hostel in your path. Absolutely, do them and just enjoy. Who knows, maybe you'll write a book about all the ones you stayed out or a TH-cam so there's know what to expect. Life is funny and you never know what tomorrow will bring, so enjoy every moment and every chance you can to experience on trail and off trail life.
What a beautiful frozen adventure you got to hike through! But I'm sure glad you didn't camp in it last night. Do us a lot of frosting frozen material. Glad it also warmed up substantially later on. Hope you have a beautiful week!
I’m glad you’re getting big miles with sleeping indoors. It’s cold out there. You seemed to walk through what I would call micro climates. It’s so interesting that you can turn a corner and the environment is so different.
💥500💥 The snow was beautiful. The soreness could be dehydration. You are a body in motion, Nyx. I think you were right about the double zero affecting you. The cold constricts as well. Also, walking differently on snow/ice will work the muscles differently. You did amazing! ✌️💪
533.3 - Total miles fm Amicalola Falls 29.9 - Miles for day 32 16.7 - Avg. miles per day 19.0 - Avg. miles per day less the 4 zero days Jun 24 - Estimated Katahdin summit date One of the most interesting things I heard many years ago about hiking the AT was how one would be hiking in perpetual spring. Spring starts sooner in the south and progresses north at about the same pace of a hiker. So, where the heck is spring? All I see are bare trees, frozen water, and snow.
Grayson Highlands is beautiful when frozen! I was up there a month ago and there was no snow or ice but the wind was intense! Beautiful area and the views are amazing. Best of luck as you continue northward. Hope to meet you on the trail at some point
Just a thought... all that walking in snow changes slightly the angle our feet settle on each step. The heel compresses a bit more than the forefoot? All these small changes in forces add up over all those miles in snow. That plus the cold and your body running on the dry side and the 2 zeros. Makes sense to me. It was a very different day!
Wow, I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and not once this winter were we treated to the snowy beauty you saw! I guess that means you were lucky?
Grayson Highlands is so cool! Mt. Rogers is nice, but there are no views when you get to the top; the trail just ends in the middle of the woods. So, you're definitely not missing anything too spectacular. Happy hiking!
Bummer about the earrings! But this was a good reminder for us to put super glue into the gear bag of our TrailMagic box! Plus bandaids and antibiotic ointment I guess! Hope the cut healed without issues.
That's funny Stella, where you went off trail I had literally just ask Pampers "isn't the trail down this way?" (the wrong way) just before we saw you. I guess we should have given you a heads up. 🥺
If only the top is frozen you can bang it against a tree to break up the ice and get to the water below. Sleep with your water in your bag so it doesn’t freeze. And if it’s REALLY cold you can put it in your bag upside down or put it inside your clothes while you walk.
Congrats on getting 500 miles. So beautiful. Maybe a bit dehydrated. Maybe get some magnesium for muscle cramps. Just a thought. That was weird to see the clip of snow than all of a suddenly no snow. 😅😅 keep trekking. 😀
Cute earrings yes save and glue later ❤..Not sure if you heard that Mississippi was hit with Catastrophic and devastating tornadoes last night I know Silver City & Armory was completely destroyed in some parts..I sure hope you're safe and carrying some sort of emergency weather device 🌬🧗♀️🌹
There aren't any views at the top of Mt Roger's. All trees... As a quick side note, my 6th great grandfather was a surveyor who co- led the expedition to establish the borders of the Virginia and Carolina colonies. You are very close to the spot the expedition was attacked by a large pack of wolves. No wolves there anymore.... Also, hiking in snow is really tough, not surprised at all that you are very sore. The snow was deep on the way up to the highlands....
@S. M. so. I've never seen a wolf east of the Mississippi. That isn't to say they do not exist, but they are incredibly rare if so. It would be nice if Elk had been truly reintroduced to the Appalachians, the full scope of their former territory. Never seen any of them wild east of the Mississippi either even though I'm well aware of them and where the reintroduction programs happened. There are absolutely massive herds though still in the Rockies... I honestly think you are almost as likely to see a cougar as a wolf east of the MS River, but I'm not an expert, just an avid hiker.....
@S. M. I wish I were an expert on this subject, but from what I understand there is really only one or two good herd on either side of the range. About 200 in N Carolina and maybe 500 in Tennessee. There are single herds 5x larger than the latter still in the rockies. Those are incredibly low numbers for pretty large states, so that explains why I've never seen one in the wild... compare that to deer, which number in the millions in each state....
Grayson Highlands beautiful in the snow...Smart move not going up to Mt Rodgers because no views there and Walmart has cramp pills that dissolve under your tongue...Work quick and I always carry them... Restful legs is the name... Keep pushing NOBO 🙌
I've always wanted to do the AT all the way, but last year suffered 3 congested heart failure episodes. And now on medical disability. But thanks to you I get to live the hiking journey through you. Be safe.
Beautiful trail!
Keeping your water bottles upside down will help to keep the tops from freezing. Keep on moving!✌️
You always look good on camera no matter what your surroundings or your physical conditions are. And when you're struggling you talk about it honestly and try to find a positive angle to it💕😃
I think this is exactly why I enjoy Stella's posts
Stella. I have really enjoyed your AT journey from day 1. I feel that you are one of the most determined hikers that I have followed to date. If I had to pick one hiker that would refuse to not succeed, you would be my choice hands down.
“Hiker hobble” , had not heard that phrase in ages!!!!
Ha, I've never heard of it, but I'm glad to know the name of something I suffer from quite often. 😆
Funny we're saying the same thing about time. Well, it's really 5:30 not 6:30. LOL! Love your attitude, broken earring, freezing and bleeding out but it's great! 🤣 It's interesting how the weather changes with the different elevations. Thanks for taking us along.
Congrats on 500 miles, it’s winter wonderland for you today!
I love the Grayson highlands in the snow!!!!
That section was one of the best on the entire trail imo . You got a really pretty day up there. Congratulations 🎉

You have “true grit” going through the highlands in that kind of weather. Beautiful video! Hike on Nyx.
THANK YOU 🤗....I truly enjoy your narration and that winter wonderland was amazing. Stay warm and injury free👊

So Beautiful 😍 Thank You!
Its crazy how we prepare for so much on trail and get injured by something meant to save you in emergencies lol, glad you're okay. Awesome footage love the snow!
Congratulations on 500 miles!
Troughing thru the snow and ice will make your muscles work harder. Thanks for taking us along. I was nice and warm too….. from my couch …lol
Congrats on 500 miles (in 32 days! wow ) the snow makes for beautiful scenery, keep on killing it Stella! you are awesome!
Beautiful! Thank you for taking us with you on your journey.
How beautiful it is to be in the mountains when its snowing..the trees turn to crystal and the trunks and branches turn so dark in contrast to the snow…and the sounds in the woods when it snows is awesome…so peaceful…glad you enjoyed it and it wasn’t sleeting all over you
Congrats on 500! Amazing blue skies! Happy Trails and stay hydrated!
I've seen other people store their water upside down. Water freezes from top down so if you flip it over the spout will be the last part to freeze.
So exotic to see all that snowy landscape ... almost as if you were up on Mt. Washington in New Hampshire in the Winter instead of still down south in early Spring. And you really managed to cover the distance despite the snow! Your performance is faster than any I have seen on the AT.

Exciting to watch you travel thru the Grayson Highlands. I did it 2 years ago in April-in the same kind of weather!!
I am glad you got to see some ponies. I can't believe how much snow there was. So pretty. 🌻🌻👣
8:51 What do you called a Charlie Horse on the Grayson Highlands? A Charlie Pony … lol, I crack myself up
Spectacular views of the trail all the way in this days video👍 so bright and beautiful Stella. Have a Werthers for me. Lol
What a winter wonderland! I hope it made the cold worth it. 🥶🧊🌨❄🏔
Glad you got to see the ponies. You did some good miles even with the snow, its amazing when the sun hit the snow covered trees. Have fun🌲👍
Stella, thank you for the hard work you're putting in to show us the beautiful scenery. I appreciate it so much ❤
The snow was beautiful!! Congratulations on 500 miles. You are doing so great just stay safe and warm. Happy Hiking 🏕🥾💞
Welcome to my home state….VA….and you got to see the ponies! Beautiful views today!
Congratulations on 500!!
Just stunning snow covered trees! What beauty! Good to see you back on trail. Your legs might be sore because of the down time and then doing lots of miles. Good job with the videos. Always enjoyable. Safe hiking!
Wow the snow is so pretty amazing views

My favorite place on the AT - Grayson Highlands - I used to live close. Have also been there and camped in the snow. Great to enjoy with you.
😮🤩😍 thanks for sharing
Thank you for the beautiful winter shots and the hike. I truly enjoyed the video.
nice job in Grayson Highlands . been up there in warmer weather
If you like Banbanas, maybe you can try the dried ones. Bananas are good for Charlie horses
Beautiful snow hiking! Enjoy the hostel stay out of the cold weather!
Congratulations on your 500 miles!! 🎊🎊
Congrats on 500 miles. What a gorgeous day! 🤩
🤗🇳🇱
Yes, turn your bottle upside-down.
I’m glad you’re getting big miles with sleeping indoors. It’s cold out there. You seemed to walk through what I would call micro climates. It’s so interesting that you can turn a corner and the environment is so different.
Your views are beautiful today! Congrats on 500 miles!
WOW I love this video, soooo beautiful !! Thanks for sharing!!!
You did not miss anything by not going to the Mt Rodgers summit as there is no view from there anyway, All trees. Fantastic snow scene, so beautiful 😀
Beautiful views. Thanks!
So glad that you changed your shoes!
Outstanding!
When hiking in freezing conditions roll 2-4 layers of saran wrap around the water bottle and maybe put in a sock. The same for the water filter.
Congrats on 500 miles stella!
What a gorgeous day! Thank you so much for showing us Grayson Highlands in the snow! Beautiful!

This is cool, Love it.
Wow, I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and not once this winter were we treated to the snowy beauty you saw! I guess that means you were lucky?
Sore due to hiking in the cold and not drinking enough on trail. Still killing the miles!
Grayson Highlands is so cool! Mt. Rogers is nice, but there are no views when you get to the top; the trail just ends in the middle of the woods. So, you're definitely not missing anything too spectacular. Happy hiking!
Good to see your happiness back. Scenery was absolutely great. Planning on microspikes? But by now you must be at least 9 days ahead…
Bummer about the earrings! But this was a good reminder for us to put super glue into the gear bag of our TrailMagic box! Plus bandaids and antibiotic ointment I guess! Hope the cut healed without issues.
Good choice, not blue-blazing Mt. Rogers. There is no view from the top because of the thick tree covering. I'm really enjoying following you, Stella!
Looked really miserable walking in the snow, and you still made 25 miles great day. Perhaps the cold contributed to the soreness.
That's funny Stella, where you went off trail I had literally just ask Pampers "isn't the trail down this way?" (the wrong way) just before we saw you. I guess we should have given you a heads up. 🥺

Rime Ice!
Congrats on getting 500 miles. So beautiful. Maybe a bit dehydrated. Maybe get some magnesium for muscle cramps. Just a thought. That was weird to see the clip of snow than all of a suddenly no snow. 😅😅 keep trekking. 😀
Dehydrated and walking on snow and ice you probably tense your muscles more.
PS - you didn't miss anything by skipping the trail to Mt Rogers summit. There's no viewpoint at the summit - just a lot of woods. ☺
How do you like your jacket?
Cute earrings yes save and glue later ❤..Not sure if you heard that Mississippi was hit with Catastrophic and devastating tornadoes last night I know Silver City & Armory was completely destroyed in some parts..I sure hope you're safe and carrying some sort of emergency weather device 🌬🧗♀️🌹
Stella Hikes, brought to you by Hot Hands, “don’t leave camp without it!”.
You cut yourself on your AT tag?! Better call Saul.
There aren't any views at the top of Mt Roger's. All trees...

👍👍👍
That’s my dad the one on the left at 14:24
... and just to be clear Patrick, he is the one called "Pampers" not me. 🤣
Walking in snow can be like walking in sand! It would be tougher on your calf’s
Crazy glue does wonders….lol
Grayson Highlands beautiful in the snow...Smart move not going up to Mt Rodgers because no views there and Walmart has cramp pills that dissolve under your tongue...Work quick and I always carry them... Restful legs is the name... Keep pushing NOBO 🙌
I see a new pair of earnings in your future
You should go get a gatorade Stella you're running low on electrolytes if your muscles are cramping up
Charlie horse…could need more magnesium.
I’m sure 2 days off probably didn’t help .,. Oh well what dosent kill ya makes you stronger… ((:
Hot hands are cool (lol)
said no hiker ever (maybe/almost): “oh no, i broke my earring!”…😂😂
That’s a first, cutting one’s hand on an AT tag. I’m sure those anti-ATC people will blame the ATC for the mishap.
I've always wanted to do the AT all the way, but last year suffered 3 congested heart failure episodes. And now on medical disability. But thanks to you I get to live the hiking journey through you. Be safe.
