You are so right in what you say about building a fun car to be a daily driver, rather than something that you are frightened to take out of the garage. And a mini can be a riot of a daily driver!
I'm curious to know how much it all added up to after all these fixes. I'm looking to buy an oldschool Mini, but not exactly financially able to do all this stuff, but it would be good to know for future reference. either way, LOVE THE BUILD :)
7:30 Yes, this is exactly what I want a Mini for. You nailed it, dude. I want something I can run around town in and work on slowly on my own to improve over time without breaking the bank. Doesn't need to be perfect, I don't wanna do a full restoration. I just wanna have some fun and get a second vehicle while I'm at it.
Every time I almost talk myself out of pulling the trigger on a classic mini I watch one of your videos and it sucks me back in :). Thanks! Now I need to figure out a good seat / wheel / shifter combo for a bigger dude I have had a hell of a time fitting into the various minis around my area when I've gone looking.
@@GTE_Channel yup I pick it up next week actually. Had some custom seat extenders made to push me as far back as possible. I've only tested it once but it felt great. Can't wait to drive the crap out of it this summer.
Aaah as someone who daily drives a Mini, its really nice to watch this video and when it ends, I was like ah no please don't end yet 😂 Keep up the good work man!
To my knowledge the only Mini to get a factory rear wiper was the ERA turbo. They only ran for a couple years and had many noticable differences from a normal Mini. I bet that random wire to the trunk was for the washer fluid bottle. That is where my 1993 Mini has its bottle, right side of the trunk. I do love these cars. They have such an appeal that anyone from any age enjoys them.
I have a classic mini, all original, mint. I want to have a mini to make my own. Was going to start with the shifter and wheels but ultimately might end up getting a mini to personalize later when i have the time to spend in the garage...
Thank you for your content. I love it. I am a relatively new classic mini owner so all your content really helps. I am struggling to work out how to put together a classy looking interior so thanks for all your help!
Hey, I just got a 95 mini cooper over here in Japan. I want to stance the car like this one. High in the back, lower in the front. I think it looks so good and gives the mini and edge. I have 10 inch wheels on right now, looking to go bigger and get larger flares. What suspension did you run on this one and what are the heights I should go for to achieve this look?
Another great video guys! It would be great to know a bit more about the dash/vynil instal you did on this mini. I've got a similar deal on my mini where the dash has been converted to a MK3 style but has seen better days and could do with a new vynil kit. Keep on working on cool cars and making sweet videos!
We either buy a new mini harness from Mini Spares, or start with a Painless Wiring hotrod kit with the number of circuits we're looking for to make things a little easier.
Hi Steve, Do you have any idea what the name/code of the paint on this mini? I have one almost the same which I want to respray in the same colour... but I can't find it anywhere! Love the vids, I'll binge watch them in the next few weeks. Subscribed!
I wish you guys were in the UK. I would love for you to sort out my mini! It is in a bit of a state... mainly my fault for bad workmanship but it was a good car to learn how to do work on!
Have you guys ever done a center binnacle conversion from the newer, square gauges over the steering column? If so, do you know if the connections for the fuel gauge, water temp sensor, and oil pressure sender mate straight up to the old center binnacle gauges, or do they require the old gauges be swapped out? Great video- wish they'd been around back when I got my first Mini. :)
Yeah, while the glass was out we removed loose bits of rust and then treated it with POR-15. Then re-installed the glass with a new seal 24 hours later.
Hi, thank you for the video. It is inspiring. I just bought a 1971 Mini and it is rough. Is it possible to bring it to you and get an assessment and possible repair, I live in New Westminster BC. thanks Raymund
This is the kind of build I want. Also, while I'm not quite ready to buy, I'm thinking ahead and I see on a lot of selling websites that independent mechanical evaluations can be arranged. Given that I'm not a mechanical engineer or an expert in these cars, I assume this is a good idea? What are your thoughts? Do you have a trusted company that you could recommend, or does it vary by region?
To get worthwhile service, we recommend a shop that is familiar with classic cars or even minis, if you are so lucky. There are many components that are quite different from those found on modern vehicles so some shops don't know what they're looking at. It depends on who is local to you.
Super clean, nowhere near over the top, seems way fun. Great work! I LOVE those union Jack brake and clutch pedal pads. Also, I don't know anything in particular about Minis aside from that I want one, spark plugs in the block? Weird. Or maybe not, maybe just weird for the American stuff I've always owned and worked on.
It's fine, depending on the car and your tolerance to noise and bumps. Some of our friends have literally toured the world in their minis. We find that it helps to have a taller final drive and a little bit of sound deadening (or at least standard carpets).
Hi guys, love your videos! You're making me what to go out and buy a Mini - then have my wife divorce me.. I had one around 15 years ago as I used to take people around the city of Turin, Italy to visit the locations used in the original Italian Job movie. I love your cafe racer... that's really inspiring me ;-) Nice work!!
Hey Richard, driving a mini around Turin honestly sounds like a dream. Maybe you should slip minis into conversation with your wife and make that idea grow...
@@Stevestonmotorco I can try ;-) If you ever get the chance to visit I'd be happy to show you around. There is one Mini specialist I know of in the city. A local guy I know just bought a 1973 Mini Innocenti in very good condition (cars don't rust here) for €1,000!! The seller was desperate for some cash. I'm so envious... it would make a perfect cafe racer. Ciao!!
a few weeks ago i planned on driving 10 hours to buy a 78 mini.. but my plans fell through and ended up buying a 65 chrysler new yorker. . practically the same car though
You should do a video series of "common" upgrades. Like Taco install, H4 headlight updates and such.
Taco install, yummy.
You are so right in what you say about building a fun car to be a daily driver, rather than something that you are frightened to take out of the garage. And a mini can be a riot of a daily driver!

Beautiful job making it neat, clean and ready to roll.

Would love to see a video on how you did the rear seat belt install because I’m going to look at installing them on mine.

Did you end up buying one? Seat extensions make fitment of tall people quite easy. I know some pretty tall people who drove them for years

Great film. Thanks. My 65 Cooper is in 60th birthday show this weekend. Great time to own a classic mini.

When wiring is really bad any you want to redo a part, where do you get the connectors and plugs to make a customized loom yourself ?

WoW another great Mini and a fantastic vlog, I enjoyed them all !!!
I think I'm ready to pull the trigger on a classic mini.
Hope you went for it! 👍
Love the work and detail you put into all your cars, would be good to know the hours to deliver this transformation.
Did you do anything about that bit of corrosion on the cowl? I’ve got that too and would be interested in seeing what mitigation can be done.
Yeah, while the glass was out we removed loose bits of rust and then treated it with POR-15. Then re-installed the glass with a new seal 24 hours later.

Can I ask where you got the steering wheel from and what you call that type/model of steering wheel
It was already in the customer's car. Looks like a vintage Moto-Lita.
There was nothing wrong with the original wiring. Good LUCAS workmanship.
Beautiful job it looks great.

Dear Sir, I just want to ask you, how about swapping with motorcycle machines, it is still save for daily use? Thank you.
It throws the cars already perfect ballance off. Just build yourself a A series and duel carbs
Are they group 5 arches? cheers R
where did you buy your exaust pipe?
Looking sharp !! cheers from New Zealand
always excited to see the classic mini, hopefully one day I can have it 😁
Does someone know what the make of the rims are thanks

Do some on the clubman minis?
Can the next release shift knob be purchased in Japan? How much is it?
Absolutely. They're available now on our website for 79 CAD, and yes we ship to Japan.

I bought a shift knob
Thanks very much!
I have a mini van under my garage it was cut up and used as hard core back in the days when a mini was £30 scrap
Funny how disposable they were for some time.

Any way you could make an suv or mini van fun to drive? Or are they already lost causes 🙃
Of course they can be fun
Buy an actual Mini Van, then throw a 1380 Swiftune engine in there with a KAD 5 speed gear box.
Yet another awesome video. Really loving your videos. Going to order some goodies soon.
Peace
Do you guys actually sell them I'm looking a automatic for sale or trade
This is exactly what I need
You should jack the cars up while working on them, all that bending over is giving me lower back pain 🤣
Love the channel keep the vids rolling in 🤙🏻
Awesome video man. Subbed.

From the wiring hand twisting job and no rust underneath l would guess the car came from South East Asia.
