About that sparrow, when I was growing up in the fifties and sixties there were lots of sparrows and starlings here in Newcastle NSW. After native birds like noisy miners moved in the English birds disappeared. When in recent years I've worked in Toowoomba I've seen sparrows ( Toowoomba at higher altitude is cooler than surrounding towns in Southern QLD )
Black swans originate from Perth Western Australia. That's why the river that goes through Perth is called the Swan River. The black swan is the emblem for WA.
The Black Swan that lives around the inland waters of Maroochydore and the nearby Sunshine Coast region are a separate subspecies to the Black Swan of the Swan River. Maroochydore uses logos of a Black Swan to represent itself. The Black Swans of Maroochydore is definitely not a recent introduction as there are many local stories told by the indigenous tribes of the area that depict the Black Swan and have been authenticated to have been told as tribal lore way back before European settlement. One could say that these local stories about the Black Swan are part of the local tribes dreamlike stories. So not all Black Swans or even Australia Black Swans originate from the Swan River system in WA.
@@trevorkrause7220 'Maroochydore' actually means place of the black swan in local Indigenous Australian language, & has been used by them long before Perth was even settled.
Black swans (Cygnus atratus) are native to Australia, including Tasmania, and are found throughout the mainland except for Cape York Peninsula. They are most common in the south-eastern and south-western wetlands. They have NOT been introduced into south Qld but have always lived here.
First time watching and I really enjoyed your video. Sparrows were introduced to Australia from England in the 1860's to the 1870's. Black Swans are native to Australia and can be found everywhere but Cape York.

Had a day in Melbourne many decades ago. I remember it was swealtering with 45 degree heat, I was a mechanic and the shop was at least 50 inside with the outside heat and also the heat of the hot cars. We had fans going all over the shop trying to keep cool. Hit 12:00 exactly, midday, and a massive storm cell swept in in seconds and there was an almighty thunder and lightening storm with flash flooding and torrential hail. The ground actually cooled so quickly that the ice didn't melt on the ground. The remainder of the day was a massive storm light show and rain.
When I was a 5 year old school kid in Brisbane, I remember being taught what to do if caught in a storm. Apart from the bits about how avoid a lightning strike, the other memorable part was 'if caught in the open, put your school bag over your head to protect yourself from any hail'.
Check out the waterfalls on Mount Coolum after a torrential downpour. Australia is still the driest inhabited continent but you wouldn't know it or believe it from coastal Qld in summer. Be careful swimming after floods when the water is cloudy and opaque. Drowned animals attract sharks. That backyard pool might suffice until the seawater is clear.
You’re lucky my first storm in Australia 1966 New Year’s Eve I thought it was the end of the world. Rivers of water, thunder and lightning and a power cut. I was terrified and no one else was bothered. In fact some ppl were dancing in the rain. Fond memories.
it was I have come to enjoy storms soooo much. The only other place I had great strong was in Cornwall many years ago. Maroochydore is great for walks.
Glad u guys are ❤ the SC You have seen more than me. It’s gr8 seeing the rain and keeping everything so green. 5 years ago we we had the Mega Fires Australia wide. The Dry Season can be catastrophic and dangerous especially with fire burning eucalyptus trees.
You should check out The Gap storm from 2008. The Gap is a Brisbane suburb. It was unusual to get a storm as big as that one but we do get some good storms.
The Murray River has about 13 locks on it that can fit paddle steamers (old steam powered paddle wheel boats originally used for transportation of cargo before roads and railways), so they are quite large. The Murray also has thousands of houseboats where some people live permanently, use only on holiday or hire out for tourists for holidays.
The grey water bird at 09:20 looks like the White-Faced Heron. The Black Swans are native to Australia and are typically found in freshwater lakes, rivers, and wetlands. They have an interesting behaviour of forming monogamous pairs that often stay together for life. They are also the emblem of Western Australia.
Oh you are SOOO LUCKY having a dad with a Canal Boat. So envious of your trips on that. When i was visiting the UK 🇬🇧 from Australia 🇦🇺, i wanted to hire one. Buy we didn't budget for it. Always regretted not doing it. 😒. I Love them .❤
@@EatVentureVlog most of the sporting teams based in Maroochydore use the swan as their emblem. Maroochy Swans Rugby League team and the cricket team, etc, etc. Good that you found Parrerra Channel canal to walk on. There are a series of lakes like that with locks. Lake Kawana the next one is an olympic standard rowing/canoe venue with the lanes etc as well as remote control sail boats on the Nicklin Way side. Then there are lakes near the hospital which come off Currimundi lake. All very similar. I have a lock card. Duno if it still works. We'll have to tee up a time to give it a go. They are super fast and well made. I reckon it would spin you or your dad out how modern they are.
In 1954 in Dorrigo NSW 38 inches of rain fell in 24 hours, that is rain. But only the second highest for 24 hours. North Queensland holds the highest estimated 1.147 metres around 45 inches
I assume the lock is to prevent extreme tides in the canal estate. Not the worst rain downpour. Or hail storm. They get bigger than golf balls and can cause serious damage. I noticed rain in Britain is persistent but usually very light. Grey Heron. Sparrows used to be much more common but seem to have faded away in Australia. Being outcompeted by other birds? Spider is inside the curled leaf, they are like Hermit Crabs. Black Swans were originally from Western Australia and were introduced to the east coast. Now endemic everywhere.
Great video guys i wish you all the best and hope you enjoy this magnificent country as much as i do . A nice calm introduction to a small storm just wait until you experience a tropical cyclone , I've slept in a swag during one while camping with 120 kmh winds and rain that came in sideways i couldn't see 20 foot in front of me and thunder that rattles the rib cage . 👍✌️🇦🇺
We had a doozie of a thunder storm today in Melbourne . Had a big whip of lightning then thunder right outside my open window, really loud, made me jump, the room rumbled. QLD is another level though in the wet season I remember shitting myself as a kid and the Qlders being like it’s nothing.
Heard and see more Heavy rain here , in Australia , my dear , it’s fabulous when you think of it , that’s why it’s so green . Up in QL The humidity , and you have the air con on put it on DRY , it will get ride if the humidity .
The White swans are everywhere in the UK, they are gorgeous birds, but very protective over their chicks, funny how we are from the UK but both of us have only been to London once 😅
Great to see you taking a walk around my old neighbourhood! Only moved away from Kawana Island in September (very expensive). The pair of black swans were probably the parents of 4 or 5 fluffy cygnets that were regulars at the Double Bay park back in September. It certainly was/is a delightful place to live. A little noisy at times.
The Murray river on the boarder of Victoria and New South Wales there's locks in the river for the river boats. You phone ahead and its free to get through and someone comes down for you when you get there to let you through.
Wait until you get thunderclaps that rattle the windows, or even break windows. Or when your hair stands on end when there is electricity in the air. BTW, if that ever happens get inside quick smart, or make yourself as low as possible without lying down, and stay away from trees or other structures. But the reason why we get such big thunderstorms is the temperature difference between ground level and the upper atmosphere. That's what causes the static electricity, the warm air rising and creating convection currents. You Aussie accent btw, was pretty good, you're getting better 😀
@@EatVentureVlogAlso, if you are caught out in an electrical storm, wear rubber soled shoes, NOT bare feet. If you’re inside your car, don’t touch any metal components.
heaviest rain i've seen was in brisbane, couldnt see more than a few feet past the bonnet so had to pull over and just wait. craziest weather was in darwin, none of this counting between the lightning flash and thunder to fugure how far away it was. it was just flash bang right over the house which shook so bad mugs and shit were falling off shelves. a bunch of joggers were layed out flat when lightning hit the ground or tree in the park they were running around, i shouldnt have laughed but nobody was killed, pretty sure they were'nt .
Go to the Clarence valley Yamba ,Iluka, brooms head around about 40 different beaches. And Sandon river has its own island that you can walk to near Brooms head .
A big tip for driving and visibility in wet weather in Australia - go to an auto store and buy some water repellant to apply as a coating when the weather is dry and the windscreen is clean. You can also buy a spray version that will clean and apply a clear coating at the same time, but the original solution is a bit more persistent. It lasts weeks and the water just beads off. I find I am frequently on the freeway driving at 100km/h in a downpour and I'm not using my wipers at all, and I pass people with wipers going crazy and still can't see, who are crawling along at 30km/h to my left and causing accidents. It is actually quite frustrating and dangerous to not be able to see in those conditions. I try to avoid recommending brands on TH-cam, because it sounds like a promotion, but I find Rain-X works really well.
Thunderstorms at night are the best, prepare your food and find your candles or torches, in case the power goes out. Turn off your lights and open all the windows and enjoy the show. My family loved stormy nights the bigger the thunder and lighting the better.
I live in Perth, however spent my first 36 years of life in Melbourne. When we went to the Gold Coast I found it strange to be caught in a trop8cal storm at Dream-world and despite the rain was sweating with the humidity. Upside we quickly dried off when the storm passed
Love your reactions to our country , it must be so different to home for you . I’m also loving your little fur baby , so sweet ❤. The Black swan is our state emblem and we have plenty of them over here in the west . 👍
it wasnt hail - it is just raindrops that are so heavy. Assume you have had more today. Black swans are native to Australia - on the Western Australian coat of arms
The rain has been crazy hasn't it? I've lived here in the subtropics all my life but I am still astounded by the torrential downpours where the rain drops are HUGE and you get completely saturated from just 10 seconds. Ok - on the birds: the skinny blue / grey bird in the grass is a blue heron. Black swans are native. The one with the funny shaped neck in the pair you spotted - could be tangled in fishing line or plastic or something. You might want to call the RSPCA and tell them where you spotted it. They might send someone out to try and capture then treat it. The sparrows - they are found across most cities and they were introduced from Britain. Their numbers in Brisbane have dropped due to a, wait for it, massive storm back in the late 1980s. Many were killed and they didn't make a quick comeback because people were changing their gardens and houses so that they suit other birds, like noisy miners, which have outcompeted them. .
Yes, black swans (\(Cygnusatratus\)) are native to Western Australia. They are the state bird and emblem of Western Australia, and are featured on the state's flag and Coat of Arms.
Black swans are found in all areas of Australia, other than the tropical north and this is probably because of the crocodiles. You also find Aboriginal names in many areas meaning swan and one of the most well-known towns in NSW is Dunny-doo.
@ My goodness that area has changed. I remember when that area from Caloundra to Mooloolabah was fairly empty when I was younger. My parents had a property near Gympie, and I still have two brothers who live around Gympie, so I get up that area every few years. More familiar with the Noosa end of the coast, but of course have been to Caloundra many times. My mother used to say she would maybe like to retire there, but it was getting a bit too busy for her, and she never did. I live in the Sydney CBD in a skyscraper near Chinatown, so I am a long way away. I don't like the heat so much. I am still trying to figure out where that boat lock is, as it doesn't appear on Google Maps. There does seem to be a weir on the Mooloola River. Was that walk at Kawana Island? It looks like a delightful walk.
The sparrow (house sparrow) was introduced in Australia from the UK in the 1860’s along with the common blackbird and the common starling. The water bird is a white faced heron and is found all over Australia except for the driest desert.
The gorgeous Black Swans are a native to Australia. The White Swan's are native to North America, Canada and further north I believe. You can find both breeds all over the world where they have been introduced.
Just to let you know we had two big ones pass through, lots of lightening and thunder with plenty of rain. So when it gets to the sunny coast it'll have picked up a bit more energy. More fun coming so Kody get a rain coat.
The name Maroochydore comes from the Yuggera language word Muru-kutchi-dha, which means "the place of the red bills" or "the place of the black swans"... "Andrew Petrie, an explorer, gave the name to the area in 1842 after learning it from two Brisbane River Aboriginal men who accompanied him. The name became widely used in 1884."
Ummm, all you have yourself there is an afternoon shower, when the thunder shakes glasses on the shelf that’s when you might have to get the candles ready in case the lighting show you are about to get may hit a transformer, turn the sky bright green and lose power for the next 4 hrs. Then if you got the stones for a real tropical storm, get on a plane and come to Cairns, you don’t run to dodge the rain, you run knowing that your chances of being struck by lightning have just gone up by 50%
@@EatVentureVlog it's a real risk for any river area, particularly the Gold Coast canal areas, but they are also on the Sunshine Coast, apparently Noosa River is another hot spot.
You will only find sparrows where there is significant human habitation. So, for example, you'll find them in the local town, but not on the large acre farms adjacent to that town. However, as far as I know, you will find sparrows in all Australian towns and cities. They've become dependent on our food scraps. So, lots of humans - sparrows. Few humans - no sparrows.

Another good video. Thanks a lot. You're taking more and more people with you. Fun fact : In summer, there can be devastating bushfires in Australia but rarely in Queensland because that's when the rain falls. Drier down south-and sometimes very hot-in summer.
Thanks for the info! Appreciate your kind words ❤️
This is the sort of rain you can enjoy, its refreshing, I usually stand like a maniac out in it enjoying the energy from the lightening storms and the rain storms
Lotttts of electrical storms up here in qld too, where it’s alllll lightening and no rain
Those are awesome
@@AlisonReacts eyyy we love this! Thanks for sharing with us. ❤️
Yes black swans are native to Australia. It is the West Australian bird emblem. Each state has their own bird and floral emblem.
You will experience quite a few Summer storms and they can be Severe.Don't take cover under a tree during a storm .It can prove to be unsafe doing so. .I hope little Pico is ok.Many dogs can be absolutely petrified from storms as with fireworks. Another enjoyable vlog from you two😊 Good thoughts to you both.😊🌟❤️
About that sparrow, when I was growing up in the fifties and sixties there were lots of sparrows and starlings here in Newcastle NSW.
I always stand out on the verandah when a storm rolls in. It’s just so beautiful to watch it all unfold; the sounds, smell & visuals are amazing. I always took my kids out with me to give them the full experience & hopefully let them appreciate it all.
The sparrows were brought over from England back in the day. A guy from there wanted to see them here. The accent was pretty good mate 😊
The sit-up count.....lol It's a great video, very natural, and you are appreciative of your new surroundings; great to see. Enjoy your stay. :)

I shared a house in Wollongong in the mid 80s with a Melbournian. The first big rain of the season absolutely freaked her out.😅
I bet 😂
Check out the waterfalls on Mount Coolum after a torrential downpour. Australia is still the driest inhabited continent but you wouldn't know it or believe it from coastal Qld in summer. Be careful swimming after floods when the water is cloudy and opaque. Drowned animals attract sharks. That backyard pool might suffice until the seawater is clear.
Thank you for your advice 🙏
You’re lucky my first storm in Australia 1966 New Year’s Eve I thought it was the end of the world. Rivers of water, thunder and lightning and a power cut. I was terrified and no one else was bothered. In fact some ppl were dancing in the rain. Fond memories.
Wow, crazy to experience!
it was I have come to enjoy storms soooo much. The only other place I had great strong was in Cornwall many years ago. Maroochydore is great for walks.
November 2 years ago at my house in Brisbane we had 800mm of rain in 4 hours.
Glad u guys are ❤ the SC
You have seen more than me. It’s gr8 seeing the rain and keeping everything so green. 5 years ago we we had the Mega Fires Australia wide. The Dry Season can be catastrophic and dangerous especially with fire burning eucalyptus trees.
Joe, your "Absolutely gorgeous, mate" was pretty much spot on! 😂
Thank you 😅🙏
You should check out The Gap storm from 2008.
Ahh that’s interesting! Thank you for commenting 🙏
I swear after a good stormthe treeslook greener like they had a good bath
Oh you are SOOO LUCKY having a dad with a Canal Boat. So envious of your trips on that. When i was visiting the UK 🇬🇧 from Australia 🇦🇺, i wanted to hire one. Buy we didn't budget for it. Always regretted not doing it. 😒. I Love them .❤
Awh thank you for commenting, it’s got to be done if you go back ❤️
In relation to the black swans, this is what Maroochydore means - place of the red bills (in reference to the black swans).
We didn’t know this, so cool!
Yes black swans are native to Australia, they are the animal emblem of Western Australia, but are found all over Australia.
Thank you! 😃
Check out "sounds of then" by an Australian band Gangagang I'm sure you'll relate
We’ll check that out!
Few days ago NSW hit with massive storm. Friends visiting from UK was shock at how big the water droplet was. Different to UK
So different to the uk isn’t it! People in the uk don’t realise how much it rains here unless they come here a lot.
We had a doozie of a thunder storm today in Melbourne . Had a big whip of lightning then thunder right outside my open window, really loud, made me jump, the room rumbled. QLD is another level though in the wet season I remember shitting myself as a kid and the Qlders being like it’s nothing.
Sunshine Coast is sub-tropical. Full on tropical monsoon in Cairns or Darwin is next level. ☺️
We’ve only seen videos! We need to see it in person 🙏
Been watching your channel since you arrived.Welcome to the "Sunshine" Coast!
Thank you for the continuous support it means the world to us ❤️
To answer your question, Joe, YES, black swans are native to Australia, and can be seen right across the mainland, except for Cape York Peninsula....
Heard and see more Heavy rain here , in Australia , my dear , it’s fabulous when you think of it , that’s why it’s so green . Up in QL

You have the beautiful white swans in the London Parks.
The White swans are everywhere in the UK, they are gorgeous birds, but very protective over their chicks, funny how we are from the UK but both of us have only been to London once 😅
Yeah it's the season, down near Mt Tambourine where we are its not uncommon to lose power in a big one.
I love the storms we have over here in WA, have always loved thunderstorms
Great to see you taking a walk around my old neighbourhood! Only moved away from Kawana Island in September (very expensive). The pair of black swans were probably the parents of 4 or 5 fluffy cygnets that were regulars at the Double Bay park back in September. It certainly was/is a delightful place to live. A little noisy at times.
Yes absolutely gorgeous😍
The Murray river on the boarder of Victoria and New South Wales there's locks in the river for the river boats.
You phone ahead and its free to get through and someone comes down for you when you get there to let you through.
Ahh thanks for commenting that 🙏
Accent was very good. Love it 💚💛
Thank you! 😃
Two Poms freaking out in a rain storm. Too funny.
Thank you for commenting! Wow, that’s good to know. Glad you like the accent 😉

Thanks for the rain,finally.
Go to the Clarence valley Yamba ,Iluka, brooms head around about 40 different beaches. And Sandon river has its own island that you can walk to near Brooms head .
Wow that sounds amazing!
Thank you for commenting this, we really appreciate 🙏
@@EatVentureVlog rainx :)
Or you could just wax / polish it , Works fine thats what we use on our interstate trucks ✌️
Cody your reaction to the thunder was brilliant !!,,,,, "I thought the world was ending" 🤣 I got drenched also Thursday arvo running to the car 😝
I was genuinely scared 😂
@@EatVentureVlog I could tell, more rain and a few rumbles in the sky today too
Thunderstorms at night are the best, prepare your food and find your candles or torches, in case the power goes out. Turn off your lights and open all the windows and enjoy the show. My family loved stormy nights the bigger the thunder and lighting the better.
Thanks for the tips!
I live in Perth, however spent my first 36 years of life in Melbourne. When we went to the Gold Coast I found it strange to be caught in a trop8cal storm at Dream-world and despite the rain was sweating with the humidity. Upside we quickly dried off when the storm passed
It’s so different isn’t it! Thanks for commenting 🙏
Welcome to Aus with the storms ❤❤❤
They’re insane, but so cool! 😍

Ha that's where I live Kawana Island.
No way! Such a beautiful spot ❤️🙌
“One cat and dog, two cat and dog, three cat and dog” then ⛈️
The rain has been crazy hasn't it?
Thank you for letting us know ❤️
Black swans are found in all areas of Australia, other than the tropical north and this is probably because of the crocodiles. You also find Aboriginal names in many areas meaning swan and one of the most well-known towns in NSW is Dunny-doo.
Eeeh by gum you ain’t seen nuffin yet.🤣🤣🤣👏🏼👏🏼
Eeekkkk😆😬
The tall bird is a cattle egret
What town are you in? I presume that is a river in Moreton Bay region, but there are so many rivers similar to that it is hard to tell which one
We are up in the Sunshine coast area, the walk was in the Kawana Waters area 👍
Ah thank you for commenting 🙏
It doesn't pour down here, it pisses down. 😜
That’s right 🤣🤩
yes black swans are native to Australia
The gorgeous Black Swans are a native to Australia. The White Swan's are native to North America, Canada and further north I believe.
You can find both breeds all over the world where they have been introduced.
Pico reminds me of an ewok. He's going to have ptsd if you take him into the ocean again 😅
He's not the biggest fan of the waves, but get him near a flat body of fresh water now and he takes off like a speed boat 🚤😅
Just to let you know we had two big ones pass through, lots of lightening and thunder with plenty of rain. So when it gets to the sunny coast it'll have picked up a bit more energy. More fun coming so Kody get a rain coat.
We’ve got our rain coats that we brought from the U.K, and used for the first time today!
Thank you for such wonderful info! 🙏❤️
In Queensland always carry water with you. Dehydration and hyperthermia can be a killer here, even on short walks..
We always do, thank you 🙏
Ummm, all you have yourself there is an afternoon shower, when the thunder shakes glasses on the shelf that’s when you might have to get the candles ready in case the lighting show you are about to get may hit a transformer, turn the sky bright green and lose power for the next 4 hrs. Then if you got the stones for a real tropical storm, get on a plane and come to Cairns, you don’t run to dodge the rain, you run knowing that your chances of being struck by lightning have just gone up by 50%
Absolutely gorgous….Ya nailed it mate !!
Glad you think so!
Be careful entering those waters, even in a kayak. Bull sharks abound.
Thank you for your concern.
@@EatVentureVlog it's a real risk for any river area, particularly the Gold Coast canal areas, but they are also on the Sunshine Coast, apparently Noosa River is another hot spot.
Black swans are everywhere in Perth.
Our church is along that path. I love to take that walk.
