As a vocalist I might be able to explain his high register. Mafu's voice has a natural feminine tone however when he hits those really high notes (around C5 it becomes noticeable) he's using a vocal technique called Mixed Voice. It's a blend of the chest and head voice converging in the mask (nasal canal) due to it being in the nose it causes a nasally/tinny sound and the low end of the chest falls out almost entirely and to get those notes out sometimes the vowels are spread wider. (One example of that would be 123, the Pokemon 2019 op). it's a super popular technique for high notes to where even famous American singers such as Brendan urie, Tyler joseph, ed sheeran and many more use it. Mafu's ability to slide into his mixed range is from a ridiculous amount time perfecting it as it's a challenging technique to figure out. He is one the only singers I've ever listened to has truly mastered the technique.

I was fortunate to have a roommate and another bandmate who knew the technique teach me, but now that Mixed Voice is out there and more people are using it the resources for learning and perfecting it are out there. on YT I'd recommend Chris Liepe, Evlynne Hollins and Tyler Wysong, they're what I"d consider the best people for learning mixed voice especially in a healthy way
Since you mentioned his unique voice, I think Mafumafu had some trouble accepting his higher than average voice in the past. Even in the song "I wanna be a girl" he expressed that his voice never lowered like a normal male voice. And he once said in a livestream with Soraru-san that when he went to a voice trainor for advice, they said they couldn't teach him anything because his voice and vocal cords are not very common... While he does acknowledge his own improvement, he sometimes still says that his not good at singing, like in his recent singing livestream. It's kinda sad that he doesn't see his voice as something very impressive because it's one of the most unique voices I've ever heard, you can recognize it instantly. It's also what makes him stand out as a musician.
It makes me wonder: did he hate his voice so much in the beginning that he tried to make it sound low? It sounds strained. Like he's trying his best to stay in that range. And even at his lowest, it's not that low.

As he became more comfortable with it, he started to sing completely normally with his adam's apple in a neutral position. Basically, he used to force a low voice and now he sings naturally.
another noticeable artist is miyashita yuu! he has a very unique voice and also has a heavenly feminine voice!! he is also has crazy good control over his voice and is nicknamed the "king of harmony" its a shame that he's extremely underrated,.. 😭 i love mafumafu just as much 😭😭 he conveys so much emotion through his voice and he deserves his fame!! 💕💕💕

I think that not only the old utaite community, but the past experiences of his about his voice probably made him want to blend in. I've seen mafu-san say that soraru-san helped him along the way, and maybe he was the one who encouraged him to be himself more. Either way, I'm really glad that we have mafu-san we know and love in our lives. He's such a talented artist and an amazing person.
I cried where he said he was being bullied very extreme. And I started tearing up because I feel him. Of course.... Of course... The reason is too simple. Because I was like that too but different. I was born without having friends when I was little and I don't know the word of friendship means. Even though I had ones, I never felt happy at all. Until this day, I finally tears out despite of how much I've never shown my emotions at all. I was never happy at all because I'm expressionless from such a young age. I always thought of I'm happy and cheerful but I was wrong. I was just faking it. My house environment was literal shit. I was been abused by my family. They keep saying I should make out to make new friends just because I'm a loner that doesn't mean go out. I was being forced. Forced to be in their cages. They never let me out to go meet my true friends. I was suffering without empathy at all. My mental was getting worst. And my depression is getting worst even more. All this years, I always wanted to commit suicide. By the way. I was being bullied almost a months when I was in primary school. Ever since 7 age to 9. I was forced to being sit with my bully. And I became a victim myself. He always pinch me, stomp my feet and made scars on my arms. I never like him as a friend anymore. Well not until highschool. I stopped appearing in front of him and I started defending myself. Just by bully them. Criticize criticize criticize criticize. Everyday. I hurt everyone feelings so they don't need to involved with me anymore. Not until I met Mafu at the age of 12 years old. I was watching TH-cam and I saw this japanese channel with tons of music. At first the songs are catchy and very emotional alike. And now I know what it is. Those songs are fill with dark lyrics. It sums up with how I feel already. I never felt so colorful before. All this time I'd had been suffering, I forgot how so precious that is music and emotions through it. I stopped thinking suicide and I want to get out from my family as soon as possible. And since I'm 10th grade, I don't care about my mom crying on me for go back. I'm not falling for that bullshit. She had abuse me for such years that I won't forgive. Even the whole family. I do not care about you, Mom and the others. (Especially my dad who's not involved with this) Not until I feel relieved when you're gone in my existence. I tell the teachers for sure. And make you feel karma. Oh sweet revenge~

I've been Mafu fan since his cover of lost ones Weeping. His covers at the time made me feel less of a monster and more or human. Vocaloid songs, while their lyrics are crazy good, the voices can really make you super depressed. At the time I was only 12 or 13 so I didn't understand everything but I still loved it, he kinda cheered me up? And I didn't hate myself as I did when I was just listening to Vocaloid. And so I would just blindly follow him. I think that his songs started getting subs around that time, I just know that on one of his older songs, when I clicked on it, it had subtitles. I was just in live with him. The more I listened and followed him the more Utatie I found. And I guess I was there for his voice transformation. And now like, in 2019 and 2020 first reactions to Mafu started popping up. And now this XD I just can't, I'm so happy for Mafu and his sudden recognition of people around him. Well, I also saw Mafu as a total genius, until I found Miyashuta Yuu. Miya-San... has a better vocal range then Mafu, I recommend you check him out. While Mafu will always be my number 1 singer. I mean I'm now 19, and I grew up listening to Mafu. But Miya is my number 2. He can go from a WOMANS voice all the way up to a normal man's in just a second. His songs sounds great because of that.

There's something about him which doesn't personally connect with me though. I was thinking of making a video about his cover of Unknown Mother Goose, but I don't have enough to say about that one cover specifically, though if I make a video about that particular song (which is a masterpiece), I'll certainly mention his excellent cover.

I think recently Mafumafu is not depressed as before as he writes more happy and upbeat songs now, so as a fan of his dark lyrics songs I actually felt a little disappointed. ( but I’m glad his living happily now) He’s using his high voice more often since ” I want to be a girl” ,I kind of missed his soft voice in his older songs. Example of the soft voice I said is like the voice he used in “I love .......” and “Watagashi “
Recently found out about mafumafu, I’ve like vocaloid when I was in middle school and when I heard his cover of Roki with Soraru, it was almost life changing in a way, his vocals are amazing! Once you hear them you want to listen to it more! (Almost like a small pill of happiness you need) i really want to get to know him better and this just made me a bigger fan! I look forward to seeing him in concert one day when everything is over, as well as listening to new songs from him! :) so happy I found him!
His vocal change is definitely due to getting more comfortable in his voice and figuring himself out. He said he just wanted to try once and was like "Huh, I guess I CAN reach that". He was only like 19 when he started, right? So I'd bet over the past decade or so, practice and learning himself has allowed him to improve

Overtime he just opened up his head voice and became less constrained when he's singing with his head voice (like being too focused on expanding his diaphragm or trying to use his falsetto ) which kinda explains why he was able to adapt to such high notes? Or he could be a prodigy I'm not experienced also
I actually liked his low voice in the past and thought those songs were extremly rare, since it actually were much more difficult work with voice for him. I'm a bit sad actually that he rarely uses it but it's obviously easier for him personally and I'm very happy for him finding his comfort zone in singing and in opening himself to a large amount of people. I'm listening to Mafu from about 2013 and seeing him finally winning against his personal problems brings a lot of peace to my heart. His music helped me a lot too, always giving me power from nowhere to continue doing my things and live.

I think recently Mafumafu is not depressed as before as he writes more happy and upbeat songs now, so as a fan of his dark lyrics songs I actually felt a little disappointed. ( but I’m glad his living happily now)
He’s using his high voice more often since ” I want to be a girl” ,I kind of missed his soft voice in his older songs. Example of the soft voice I said is like the voice he used in “I love .......” and “Watagashi “

Recently found out about mafumafu, I’ve like vocaloid when I was in middle school and when I heard his cover of Roki with Soraru, it was almost life changing in a way, his vocals are amazing! Once you hear them you want to listen to it more! (Almost like a small pill of happiness you need) i really want to get to know him better and this just made me a bigger fan! I look forward to seeing him in concert one day when everything is over, as well as listening to new songs from him! :) so happy I found him!

His vocal change is definitely due to getting more comfortable in his voice and figuring himself out. He said he just wanted to try once and was like "Huh, I guess I CAN reach that".
He was only like 19 when he started, right? So I'd bet over the past decade or so, practice and learning himself has allowed him to improve

Not even lieing i found his music when I was in a mental hospital, And it helped me have more curage to express my feelings to my family, because of that I have had much more luck through tharapy and medication, I hope he knows how much he helps his fans

Overtime he just opened up his head voice and became less constrained when he's singing with his head voice (like being too focused on expanding his diaphragm or trying to use his falsetto ) which kinda explains why he was able to adapt to such high notes?
Or he could be a prodigy I'm not experienced also
I actually liked his low voice in the past and thought those songs were extremly rare, since it actually were much more difficult work with voice for him. I'm a bit sad actually that he rarely uses it but it's obviously easier for him personally and I'm very happy for him finding his comfort zone in singing and in opening himself to a large amount of people. I'm listening to Mafu from about 2013 and seeing him finally winning against his personal problems brings a lot of peace to my heart. His music helped me a lot too, always giving me power from nowhere to continue doing my things and live.
I've never been so grateful for TH-cam recommendations as I do now. Thank you for this video. I'm really happy because I found someone who loves Mafumafu's art and I just don't know wat to say but I'm really happy

This is actually giving me some tips on what I need to be at least a good utaite in the future, thank you. I'll work on my low range a little more. My high range is already perfect (considering that I've sung the nightcore version of Roshin Yuukai and passed the High Range Test)
