I have a goal, at least for this month to cook from a recipe every single day. My intention here is to get a wider variety of foods in my diet and better leftovers for lunches. My favorite recipes are from Taste of Home. They have free recipes on their website if you are looking for more ideas. My goal for books this year is to read more because I feel like I didn't put in a good effort last year and when I wasn't reading my mental health suffered as well. Good luck on all your goals in 2025!
Forget that you have a channel to feed content to, start reading what you want when you want more and cut back on committing yourself to a schedule weeks and months in advance. I've bought way less new books since you started your unhauling journey and been a lot more mindful of my choices, why I want a particular book and focused a lot more on reading things I already own and re-reading books I haven't gone back to in ages. It's really started to give me back the pleasure of reading far more. I enjoy your channel a great deal and I think you being more engaged in what you are reading would really show so I don't think it should suffer in any way from you shifting your focus and perspective on things. You've made such a lot of progress going through your library and paring it back and it really shows from how more ordered and harmonious your shelves now look. In a way you've made a fresh starting point so hopefully you continue to rediscover the joy and why you got into reading in the first place. I'm looking forward to seeing the fruits of all the changes show up more and more over the coming months.
Lately, if I like a series book, I really try to continue and read at least 2 more books on that series asap. I finished a trilogy last year and another trilogy in this month due to this idea.
Love this video. I think by you sharing, you make others feel less alone or less understood. Here's hoping that the journey of you trying to fulfill your goals is worthy in itself.
Loved this video! Ao many things you mentioned where I’m in the same place. Good advice on the memory keeping; I’m so far behind; so one step at a time… Also trying to be more intentional on my purchasing, especially books. Have a few nagging health issues; also trying to get rid of the sugar and moving more for exercise. Absolutely loved this video!
Thank you!! I think with everything one step at a time is the way to go. Even with diet and health. I honestly believe that a 1% improvement every day will add up to better self care later. Good luck with your goals! We can do this 💪
I can't imagine having 20+ series going at once. I don't want to do more than 3-4 series. I mix in a bunch of standalones(fantasy/sci fi/historical fiction/classics/horror/etc) but as far as series going I don't want a bunch of open ones...seems very inefficient and very easy to forget what the heck is going on with certain series or even forgetting about them all together. Not to mention something just as fun as starting a new series is finally finishing a series. A good sense of accomplishment having completed series under your belt...very messy having a bunch of "open" series. : )
It’s completely inefficient and driving me crazy. Never again, I vow. It takes away enjoyment, adds stress, and wastes time. My best solution at the moment is to just focus on a couple until completed and the repeat the process… forever.
Good luck on your goals. Some of mine are read my backlist; spend less on books (being mindful) which means I am using audible, KU and the library as much as I am able. I am also trying to write thoughts down on the books in what I like or dislike about it and think more about what I am reading. Which doesn't always work well when I just go binge a series :)
Thank you, good luck to you too! Those are great goals. In some ways binging a series is the ultimate way to connect with it, which may not need the extra step of writing things down while reading to get the most out of the experience. This is coming from someone who has forgotten how to binge.
@@TheObsessiveBookseller Being able to binge is lovely. I am just happy that most of the series is on audible or KU (I am listening mostly because I can do that while I work or game) Annette Marie's Guild Codex is what I am currently binging on Audible.
1. I read a book a week. I had 5 months off and read 2 per week. 1 a week is a good pace. 2. I don't know how to do this as there are just books that we wait on to continue. 3. I think I have fallen into a good pace. My TBR is about a couple dozen. 4. I mean sure, but if I wanna read a new one over one I already have then oh well. 5. I do this one. I read in the morning before work, and a bit before sleep. It's nice. 1. I only take some notes and then just hit record..."blah blah blah...then hit stop and publish. This one dude, John at SciFiScavenger, has a teleprompter. His delivery comes across rather well. 2. I am like 99% sure I have no kids. 3. I wish. 4. I have no issues with this. 5. I have to deal with health. I have a gut issue and I am almost done with Invisiline for my teeth. I have a multi-ingredient smoothie for breakfast, high in calories and yummy.
I've started to read before bed a few years ago. It's great, but the only bad thing about it is that it may condition you when you're reading during the day to feel tired and want to fall asleep during the day. You can still attempt to complete this goal, but just a heads up that it may cause unwanted tiredness during the day.
That’s a side effect I hadn’t considered! Right now I don’t make time to sit and read during the day, but if I’m good about sticking to my simplifying goals then maybe at some point I will. Maybe naps should be a part of that, anyway.
You're choosing the "middle way." I barely know anything about Buddhism but years ago I heard or read that Buddha preached about choosing "the middle way" in all things. It's held true ever since I heard it :)
Best wishes with what you read in 2025. I hope you get some great stories!
You as well!
I loved hearing all your goals for the year, Niki! Especially your health goals. I’m trying to read less this year too lol.

I commend this video to every reader! Niki, you are the most honest BookTuber there is! I need to watch this video again and again...thank you!🙏
Thank you! You are so kind
Amen on curating our collections for things we love or are actually excited about! And amen about putting down my devices and just reading at night!
Preach!!
The goals are very relatable, especially the excessive buying. Great video!
Thank you! Yeah it continues to be one of my biggest challenges. Hopefully I can make some progress this year.

That's so kind of you, thank you! It felt vulnerable to share so much, but I'm glad I did.
I script my reviews as well. Good luck with the goals, and happy reading.
Thank you! I could definitely benefit from at least a little more structure haha.

Thank you kindly!
Hog wild! I can relate. Good luck with your goals Niki. 👍
Thank you!

@TheObsessiveBookseller Naps are definitely worth it!

Of all the “ways” I’ve resonated most with Buddhism. I’ll look more into the middle way…
