  • I picked up this nicely intact Serra Scotty Sportsman Highlander Travel Trailer this winter. I paid more that I wanted to for it but it's in amazing shape for it's age and Vintage campers are selling pretty well so I though this could be a nice summer project and flip. It will need a partial roof replacement and an interior resto mod. I'll be adding things like a TV, New sink, LED lighting and maybe even a solar charger and battery system to it and possibly an AC. We plan to do the inside white and Scotty teal for a 60's retro look. These campers did not change much at all from the 50's to the 70's and this is one of, if not THE largest ones they made so I think it's going to be pretty desirable .
I had to cut a few segments of the video to get it under 15 minutes so you may notice some jumps but hey, at least I did not put loud music in it that everyone would argue over in the comments.

I have the same camper - trailer an I was lucky to find it all original with no damage to it the only real damage was the light covers were broke an I made new old out of miniature lamp shades an painted them with the * **stars I guess you called an the tail lights had to be replaced an the price was crazy $500. An have maybe put another $500.00 into it an I live in it full time the last 2 yrs an I love it is going to get new paint exterior to the original turquoise, beige an white the back end is storage / bar for the hot summer nights in California but it's the best thing I have ever purchased an wouldn't trade it for the world it name Ethel an I'm been called Lucy instead of by my name Lori but I don't mind born a natural red head too

One thing I wondered about these was why the raised roof did not extend all the way to the front of the trailer? The dip in the front roof line just looks strange and it’s hard to understand the reasoning behind the configuration choice. The floor plan layout is pretty darn efficient.

The booth style dinette is up there which is a sit down area and or converts to a bed to there is no real reason to stand up in the front. I like the way it look sand also it cuts wind resistance when towing.

Nice! looking at one myself- can you tell me what you're towing it with? I can't find any info on the hilander trunkbacks weight.

I towed it about 20 miles with my 1998 4 door Ford Explorer and it was noticeably heavy. My truck has no electronic brake controller and the Highlander does have electric brakes and that would have helped but the early Explorers are not great tow vehicles and the Highlander is the largest of the Serra Scotty campers . I'll check the title and try to look at the data plate to get the gross weight.

I tow mine with a 2003 Ford Explorer V8 with no problem

Where are you? I am wondering a good price for a 1965 HiLander in relatively good condition or maybe interested in yours?

I'm in South East Pa. The prices on these, even as projects are up right now because of COVID. The smaller ones are up over the larger ones because people don't want to buy a large expensive truck to pull the larger rigs but even they are hard to find. Price is very much related to condition. A ready to camp Highlander not restored would sell for $7,500 pretty easy at the moment. A Needs nothing, restored, updated unit with AC and new appliances (Microwave, dorm fridge) and nice paint would be in the $10,000 + range. It cost around $500 just to re chrome the rare hubcaps and at this time, I can't even find amber lenses for the front. I was able to buy some new red ones for it though. I'll be cleaning up the Scotty for a video this week I hope to list it for sale as a finish up project.

I fixed the roof and got it water tight and got the inside ready and stripped for paint and ran out of steam on it. I will be listing it for sale soon to see what I can get for it.

Did you sell it yet. Looking for one to match up with my 72 c10. Would look cool together

@@gressfmx No I have not listed it yet but I am selling it. I need to pump up the tires and trim the weeds and just list it as is. I don't have time to put into it but I did repair the roof and replace the sunlight with a new one as well as put in new sinks and counter top.

This trailer is a money pit. It can be useful with modest fixes but a golden screwdriver had a whack at it in the past. Single axle so it cannot be too heavy but weight of added materials will make a sway king. Corners no doubt are rotted away. The door knob/lock I have seen for sale $500! in like new shape. Airstream used that style.

9 mins. in and still have no sense of the space inside, mostly close-up shots.
