you forgot - wire cutters, solder flux, pencil or marker, a ruler or tape measure, and a drill press.a scroll saw.a small pry tool.clamps, hot glue gun & glue sticks.wood glue your welcome. some ppl would need sources to accuire the componets.. speaker, switch, ect. also when buying you amp module they have ones that will run off 9v so you can make it portable. lots of these style modules produce .5 to 1 watt , and are great for a pratice amp, they can be heard by others in the room when you are demo'ing your CBG to the family at christmas time.
Thanks a million my friend ;-) Θα ήθελα να σας ευχηθώ μια ευτυχισμένη Χριστούγεννα και ευτυχισμένο το νέο 2017 I can't wait to build the cigar box guitar next I am waiting for some parts to come in so I can make up my mind on a 1-string, 3-string or 4-string guitar with a piezoelectric pick up or a single coil pickup... before I get started I can see the layout that I like on which box to choose in order to make the guitar.
Ευχαριστώ πολύ χρόνια πολλά, καλά Χριστούγεννα και ευτυχισμένο το νέο έτος. I would recommend you to make a 3 or 4 string instrument with steel strings and use an electric guitar pick up. Piezo must be really good quality to sound nice. You can find the schematics for soldering on Seymour Duncan's website. A pickup and a volume is really easy to set up! In any case good luck with your build!
Mark I would like to say thank you for your help and info on the cigar box project and I am glad you like the amp. I should be staring this week or next year on the cigar box guitar build. I would also like to wish you and your family a happy and Marry Christmas and New year!
hey great bills easy to follow video you have a calming voice easy to listen to...only one thing would have been better if you put the speaker screen under the lid
Thank You! You are right about the openings on the drill press not to many people know about the benefits and uses. What I would like to make someday is a jig platform for attaching work and hold-downs. Thank You for commenting thumbs up! ;-)
I've had wood a lot sturdier than that box go to pieces on me with that kind of an auger bit. That "worm" grabs the grain and muscles the cutter right on through. It's just too aggressive for drilling thin wood with even if it's clamped. I wondered about it in the application I knew he was going to put it to when he first showed it. It might be advisable to clamp it down but either way that kind of bit was a bad idea.
That is the reason why I let it on the video so no one will repeat my mistake wrong tool for the job. I was not expecting it to go wrong, but to thin material on the box just grabbed it and the rest is history.
Chris Glitzos It is a good video. Wasn't trying to knock you or anything. I'm a professional wood worker. I still do things I wish I had the good sense not to do too!
Your build was great!!! My only question, where did you get the rest of the parts other than the amp module, and how many amps does the amp module require? It looks like 1-2 amps? That cigar box has such thick walls, mine are thinner but they work. Love from NW Colorado. Thanxz
+Terry Terry I have a CBG build with a larger cigar box same as the amp box, that I play at the end of my video with this amp sound. Hope you enjoy it. ;-)
Great job! It'd be great if you could provide links to your parts list. I bought one of the non-assembled kits, put it together and almost couldn't find a 12V Power Adapter to fit the connection provided with the circuit (none of the male ends from the wall warts I had on hand would fit). Speaker and other parts would be nice to know too. Thanks!
Kostas my friend thank you for wondering which means you care ;-) I was working... I am out of the house at 2:45 am and don't get back until 7:45 pm with 6 day straight or 13-days before I can have a day off. I drive 4 to 5 hours a day just to get to work. I would like to wish you a happy marry Christmas and a happy new year 2017 (Θα ήθελα να σας ευχηθώ μια ευτυχισμένη Χριστούγεννα και ευτυχισμένο το νέο)
Thank you! and if you where in the states I would be sharing a drink of Ouzo to celebrate the occasion with you Kosta... by the way my mother lives in Lemnos Greece
Really ???? wow !!! how long you have to see she ??? that is a great idea to share with a glass of ouzo !!! i will give you a tip the next time use Sprite not water with your ouzo !!!! and then remember of me !!!!
Vasilis I thank You very much my friend and I am glad you like it. I would like to wish you a happy marry Christmas and a happy new year 2017 (Θα ήθελα να σας ευχηθώ μια ευτυχισμένη Χριστούγεννα και ευτυχισμένο το νέο)
Piezo always picks up sound vibration and it is made ideally for and works great with no matter what type of guitar strings you use. Magnetic or coil wounded pickups work only with metal made strings since it picks up on the vibration which in return makes magnetic electrical current to produce sound.
If I have an amp that runs on a 9volt battery what size transformer would I need to make it to where I can plug it into a wall. Or is that even how you go about doing it? I don’t know much about Electronics.
The amount of amps and voltage needed to run your system should be written with your audio amp. The amperage or current is the amount of energy stored in a battery or produced by a transformer to operate the system, example lets say that the system needs 9 volts and 1amp to operate, as long as your transformer is rated at 1amp it will run all day long and if you have a 9volt battery with 12amp hour rating it will run your system for 12 hours before it will die out. But the key to all this is how much current (amp) DC or AC does your system need to operate properly. Since it is a small amp these cigar box amps is most likely 9 volts DC and don't require hardly that much amperage. With that in mind you should be fine, and if you are using a transformer just make sure that the transformer doesn't give you an electrical feed back of noise interference that is why i recommend using a battery i had to go over 4 transformers until i found out one that doesn't give noise feedback. I hope that this was useful.
they sell ac wall adapters that are adjustable voltage... but the amperage usually isnt.. lots of them say 500-650 milliamps... i have a few adapters( i collect them for projects.lol) that went to small tv & monitirs that were 1 to 2 amps.
+Cale Staton I have a crazy work schedule of 16hr out of the house and most of the time 7days a week. I'm hoping that this weekend to have Sunday off so we can get together on the info of the amp-build.
I can completely understand. I appreciate it that you have taken your time to respond to me and are willing to help me. Thank you so much and I hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving!
I would have loved to make a customized circuit board amp. But I had a choice to make and I could have went out and bought a amp kit circuit board on eBay with everything that I needed to build the amp or even go into detail on circuit parts and how they work and placement and the fundamentals of an amp. But I wanted to show the viewers that you can still build an amp without a complete kit; box, amp and speaker that are out there, I wanted to show that ebay has some better options and quality and with a little research and a simple amp circuit board already build and purchased on eBay you don't need much knowledge on circuitry to customize and to wire up a speaker, a battery or even a transformer in order to build a nice little amp. I wanted to show with some over the counter parts and good imagination you can have that personal little amp that no one has out there. But maybe next time if i build another amp I'll spend more time on the amp circuitry and fundamentals.
Cool video. A link to the kit would have been nice. Actually, thats the only reason i didnt hit the Sub button
I love how you put the LED in the cabinet port!
+sinbad20001 Thank you for your comment
Really like the internal space for the power chord!

Awesome, now you need a cigar box guitar to match it! Thanks for sharing!

Great video! Love your design for this. Could you upload a small clip of how this amp sounds?
Cool little amp, Chris! Nice touch putting the LED in the strainer, too.

Nice build, but I'd like to have heard it in action.
No sound demo no point honestly lol
hey great bills easy to follow video you have a calming voice easy to listen to...only one thing would have been better if you put the speaker screen under the lid
Good job Chris man. Maybe I would of put the speaker grille inside the box but that's just me. Nice one . ;)
I thought about it but the cover was to too thick on this cigar box.
Those slots are made into your drillpress table for clamping.
Thank You! You are right about the openings on the drill press not to many people know about the benefits and uses. What I would like to make someday is a jig platform for attaching work and hold-downs. Thank You for commenting thumbs up! ;-)

Thank you my friend please feel free to comment anytime looking forward to it we all learn from each other.
A cool steam punk look to it...very cool....
Thank Robert I am glad you like it yeh it does look like steam punk. I would like to wish you and your family Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year 2017
Cool lil amp! Fyi...I use a little Dremel with a sanding drum that smooths holes like that. Works well and seems pretty safe!
Thank you for the info will come in handy with my viewers.
Chris Glitzos you're welcome...glad to help anybody. I've leaened so much from videos!
Can this amplifier board be operated off of a 9volt battery power supply, if not, do they make one for 9volt ?

+Fun & Eclectic I'm going over some of the parts this Sunday 12/10 if you would like to call me at 6pm at 540 907 7858
Agreed. I didn't hit the Sub button just for this reason
What is the connection diagram? I could not see
I used a sony speaker that I picked up at Goodwill for $3.00
Great project Criss !! thanks for sharing !! i was wondering where are you all this time !!!
Kostas my friend thank you for wondering which means you care ;-)

how cool! my next project ☺
Very nice work.
thank you
what speaker did you use and where did you purchase it from?
Very nice👍
Thank you very much I would like to wish you a Marry Christmas and a happy new year 2017
very impressive!
Thank You Very much for our comment on the amp. And I would like to wish you happy Holidays and a happy New Year 2017
Chris Glitzos thank you and same to you
Would you happen to know if the piezo will work on a nylon stringed instrument?
Piezo always picks up sound vibration and it is made ideally for and works great with no matter what type of guitar strings you use. Magnetic or coil wounded pickups work only with metal made strings since it picks up on the vibration which in return makes magnetic electrical current to produce sound.
thank you so much for your kind reply! Tom
All looked great till you got to the speaker grill. You should have put it on the inside of the amp. On top the speaker

Looks great - but where does one purchase the amp part?!
I bought it on ebay lookup part number TDA2030A Mono 15W Audio Power Amplifier Board AC/DC 12V Assembled for more or less $3.21 to $12.25
Hey Chris, I'm working an amp and was wondering how you wired and soldered everything. Please tell me I'm dying to know so I can make one!
Cale I would be more than happy to go over the build with you. if you like send me an email that i can call you at a later date to talk about it.
I sent contact info to your Facebook. If it's not okay I'll send you contact information another way.

The grill better inside.
