    5 signs:
    1. Vaseline on face or headgear
    2. Laceup gloves, tape over top
    3. Prepare face for impact
    4. Long slow warmup
    5. Defensive drill

      So I got 0 points. He's talking about hard (highly competitive sparring) surely.
      I would consider the last sign the most relevant of the bunch and the only relevant for light, slow or tactical sparring. There are many levels of sparring, obviously.

      @@alexmarques2398 tbh I think doing 1-4 is excessive unless someone is in camp for a fight. I could see someone doing that before sparring Gabriel though if they are trying to avoid being embarrassed.

      @@DeeperThought11 I practice boxing as a hobby on the side as I work full time in a regular job. Not a pro but much still higher level than most people. I don’t do 1 - 3 and that’s typical from what I’ve seen from other hobbyists. Sometimes I do a long warm up for conditioning purposes and to get ready for a long session but most of the time I’m in and out in an hour for a regular heavy bag and general workout session so I only do a small 10 minute warmup including with 5.

    We had a guy that ended up going pro in our small gym do everything you explained before sparring. I started following in his footsteps and became good friends with him and helped me ALOT through my career in amateurs.

      When people who have put in the work and time and see you doing what they did there is a respect.
      Martial arts is the only sports I have done where we beat the sht out of eachother and give that respect to the other person.
      My only regret is my shins and thighs are dead so to speak.
      I've had cuts and bruises and can't say what I've done or where they come from. Starting to think I've got dementia 😂

      Finnish language is spoken lots of they were hard to write, i have been taking lot of sparring,i can beat lot of sparring student is they are come training and wanna learned, self-defense,put,they have been another Gym. Were is beat,kick first thing. So they fear Group training. I can't i can not sparrin. There is training moved And they are striking me,so hard punching is not good for trainer,yes I have been coach bigger gym, one day line of duty i get pullet behain in my head i still fighting already endorfine is you do not fiiling is nice and co down rest, blood run out...

    In our gym you could not spar until six months of training. And once you got into the ring and could not protect yourself properly you had to train again for six months. Will say most of the guys I sparred were very competitive because of the work we put in.

      Only reason I think that’s dumb is cause nothing can prepare you for another guy in front of you and getting hit is where you learn most

      That's an amazing gym, I just joined 2 weeks ago and a muay thai guy went full blast on me (literally like I was his ring opponent) and I was 1 punch away from being knocked out, even told him I'm new after that but he didn't go easier, head hurt for 4 days, I think it's a good rule so even when you get idiots like I did you can defend yourself

      @@deeznutz6447 then that guy should be kicked out of the gym. At my gym every guy will match the other guys skill and if you don’t then you won’t be sparing. And we don’t just go beating each others ass we work with each other. But nothing can prepare you for being in the cage. It’s a whole different game and you can’t rlly work defense when someone isn’t coming at you cause the bag and pads don’t swing back

      Nothing prepares you better than sparing. Even if it's your first class, you should spar to understand what fighting is! Of course you should spar with experience guys that will not hurt you. Everybody can look great in the pads or the heavy bag. It's like training basketball and not playing games...

    Some additional one from my experience sparring (from boxing at least):
    Touching gloves for every round of sparring = we are working and shaping iron together, respecting the process
    They stretch their legs = we going to have to cut off the ring today.
    Throwing jabs while sideways in the mirror = technique and reaffirming distance
    If they respond from a good body shot with one of their own = helps with complacency and also shows the mutual respect of sparring where "head hunting " leads to the gym wars that shorten careers.
    Dig the channel dude.

      Gonna have to say no on the tattoos. I trained in Russia for a few months and those guys were tougher wrestlers than back home where everyone has tattoos

    Great list. Another tell tale sign is the placement of their head and eyes. Newer people will likely keep their chin up and look downward. People who are actually ready to do damage will keep the chin down and the eyes focused upward at their oppoenents mid section or a bit higher like the sternum. The age old Karate myth of keeping eye contact with your opponents eyes really doesnt work. Keeping the eyes on the mid section allows you to see/react to both punches and kicks.

      A lot of these kids at my gym see my looking at their chest area and take it as a sign that I don’t want to look them in the eyes. I guess they don’t realize that your opponents eyes aren’t what’s beating your face in

    Vaseline is also good for keeping sweat out of the eyes. I always regret not using something to keep sweat away.

    Here's a really easy way to combat the first error you mentioned. Frame of mind is key. "There are NO easy fights"

    Controlled breathing is something i look for. That gives me an idea of my opponents mental state going into the fight. High level fighters stay calm...almost bored 😴

      Reminds me of the heavyweight wrestler on my wrestling team in high school. Dude would deadass nap before his match, then the 215 guy would slap him before his match so he could wake up. Coach was so pissed the first time, until he started racking up the wins. Got state champion his first year wrestling.

    I just discovered this Channel today, and have already watched a bunch of these videos.

    I have trained in various martial arts for the better part of 30 years. Now at 44 I am getting into kickboxing earnestly (after dabbling a few times.)

    I pay a lot of attention to their posture and energy. You can tell a lot from someone's posture what kind of training they have done, how much, how long etc. And their energy because it tells what their natural intensity inclination is. They might be one way while under control and not a lot of stress, they will revert to their natural state once exhausted or hurt.

      If they cool under pressure when you coming forward, counter while moving backwards, step to the outside of yer jab or are able to shoulder roll in a high guard (or give you multiple defensive feints/looks)- that’s every Nat champ I’ve ever got to train with. As for the Vaseline, if you’re loud about it, ain’t nobody worrying bout u. How many fights you at? I can tell by your post you know what yer doing lol💯👊🫡

    Excellent insight. When I used to box years ago, we always put vasaline on the headgear, taped up the laces on the gloves and warm-up good. Especially warm up good when sparring someone you don't know! Some of the best wars happen in the gym!

    5 Signs Someone CAN Fight
    1. They have several shelves of championship belts!
    2. They have 2, not 1 pictures of themselves on their wall with said championship belts!
    3. They judge other fighters as easy or hard training days!
    4. They are casually taking to you about fighting strategy in and out of the ring not just physical, but also the mental aspects of the fight game while shadow boxing moves!
    5. There is no traces of dust settling on the shelf, clean house normally equates to clean techniques!

    Nice video. One thing is if you see a guy with gloves that don't match, worn out boots, just be ready. Not the pretty boys with everything matching.
    The vaseline on headgear and lace-up gloves is common with pro boxers. That's how all my pro friends get ready for sparring.

    I pranked one of me mates one time by getting him to wear lace up gloves but then I refused to help him take them off. Bloke couldn't even get home because he couldn't drive and couldn't use his phone to call a ride. He couldn't even pull his trunks down to take a wee and wizzed on himself, hahaha! 🤣😂

    Big facts about the lace-up gloves...... most definitely! And also working on some head movement (defense) after a stretch and warm-ups...... that will get you warm and sweating so you don't go in COLD! Never go in cold, that's a big no-no!

    That is all so true! Especially the defence drills. Someone who just takes a few minutes daily to practice footwork or defence as shadow will probably be a challenge indeed!

    6:00 yes . Agree. But I also go in the ring purposefully NOT warmed up. But very light. Just to get used to the fight directly .

    I always shadow box using head movement, and keeping a guard. I don't like to leave my hands what I call lazy. I tuck my chin a little with a slight raise of my shoulder. I'm going to be 58 in a couple of month's, and I feel good by doing this as part of my staying in shape workouts. I'm not going to jump in a ring, or get in a fight to check my skill level because I like it as a hobby only. I have a plate in my neck so I don't want to get hurt anymore than I have to. 🤕

      Thank you very much for your post. I am 59 and like yourself, I love it as a hobby. I have however sparred a few times with an MMA pro; I found it to be safe and extremely educational. No disrespect to amateurs etc. I personally use my brain to make a living so therefore I cannot be a practice dummy lol. Indeed, Mr. Varga is no doubt Extremely experienced and highly knowledgeable.     This made me think about the fighters who were trying to get and stay warmed-up last night on One. In a night with that many knockouts, all of them had to start their fights earlier than they would have deemed likely.
    The higher up the fight card, the more the effects would pile on as each warmup fight ended early moving your start time up again and again. How do the top-level men and women plan to ensure that they go in warm, but with a full gas tank?

    One thing I always saw from skilled guys was I'd notice their drills had a theme. For instance a defensive drill that ends in a question mark kick counter, then some combos that set up that kick, then foot work drills that end in position for that kick, and shadow boxing where movements and combos are set up for that kick.
    At least everywhere I trained we were always told "don't spar just to spar, spar with a purpose to work out done thing specific" and the good guys, even when visiting, always had something they were putting to the test in the sparring sessions.

    - When theyre super fast but they dont hit really hard on purpose. That means they have control.
    - When they test and see how you respond from feints.
    - When they smile too much and they dodge your strikes with minimal head movement.
    - When they dont just clinch when theyre tired, they wait for you to attack and they try to capitalise on your strikes by countering it.
    - watch the feet, is it always bouncing and barely touching the ground? If yes, you have quite the fighter and youre so lucky.

    Nice! Would be nice to hear an opinion on signs that someone can't fight. Like bad weight distribution, weak feet placement and legs utilization, bad hip position, upper body and arms too stiff or flimsy, bad breathing pattern, stationary head and stiff shoulders, brand new training gear :) ...
