@@Bubba__SawyerI’m gonna agree but the mode 7 stages would have played better as stages if you could just walk around and look around with the D Pad like the top down levels from super C or operation C, it would have made those levels less headache inducing, the game is also pretty short compared to hard crops , where hard crops had multiple endings, more characters and just better designed levels, contra 3 is like what 6 levels? And a boss u can’t even fight without playing on the hardest difficulty?
Didn't see anyone else mention this so I will: the instrumentation at around 1:00 is impeccable. Classic hard synth straight out of something like Commando!
Who on earth disliked this? This is great! :-) Tiny nitpick? This isn't YM2612, it's YM2612 + SN76489. Doesn't bother me **NEARLY** as much as when people call everything video gamey "8-bit" whether it's "8-bit" or not - the dinguses. But I still like to see the SN76489 get its due as well. Cheers!
Yeah, it was a seperate chip in the MegaDrive/Genesys. In the NeoGeo, the YM2610 has the YM2141 (aka A-3-8910 PSG) built-in to the bottom of its regester set for square waves and noise. They probably would have gone for that in the Genesys, but the SN76489 was already known to Sega developers in the Master System. Just so you know, the DAC chip was built-in, and 9-bit PCM, not 8-bit. The YM3812 (Adlib and Sound Blaster) used a YM3014B, which is 16-bit PCM. All control registers are written using an 8-bit port, though (8-bit CPUs can talk to it easily), so maybe they could call it 8-bit from that perspective.
Somebody, quick, send this guy 30 years into the past, with a contact to produce all the genesis music of every game back then... And tons of clones. greatest music!
This being Contra, I expected Contra Hard Corps instrumentation, but Alien Soldier is more than fine, too! Also, I'll try to share this video around a bit. Anything to try and make sure you keep afloat.
Stuff like this makes me wonder how the soundtrack for Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge on Genesis COULD have been. Like, clearly there's proper avenues for (amazing) conversions, but my God
Certainly a good idea. IMO it's much better than Paypal 'cause with Patreon he could at least have a projection of monthly income through his work on these covers.
I've thought about it. A couple of problems though: I don't have any plan or model for what it should encompass, because I do a lot more than just chiptune covers (I also mod games a lot and have one of the most popular Skyrim mods, for example). Should it just be for everything I do or be laser focused on one specific thing? Got no clue about stuff like privileges for different tiers either and what that should entail. Second is that all this time I've primarily done this for my own sake and at my own leisure. And I'm sort of scared that it might start to erode the passion if I change the dynamic too much.
...YM2612 + SN76489 ? So , not possible if there was a port ....(sigh*) I think Konami could of done an awesome job with there best port of Contra III (Mega Contra!!) !!
Typical Robert Meme comment: "This sounds like a load of shit. Genesis music is usually bad. Lol" Let's hope that bastard didn't reach your videos yet.
It's already been mentioned, but I totally love how well the Alien Soldier patch/instruments fit this.
If Contra 3 The Alien Wars was ported to the genesis
or arcade
Hard Corps > The Alien Wars
And its music was re-arranged by Norio Hanzawa. 😉

Terminator 1
I love the use of Alien Soldier beats
It sounds much like Gunstar Heroes or Alien Soldier.
Yeah it really does!
Probably because he used the drum samples from those games
Funny how the treasure was founded by ex konami employees
Absolutely badass cover, as always. I'm starting to get around Contra 3 on my actual SNES too alongside Hard Corps. This oughta be fun.
And to think just an hour prior I was thinking about playing Super Probotector on Hard... guess it really is time for revenge.
Make sure to attack aggressively.

I think that's one of those things that goes without saying, since one is almost never seen without the other.
probably one of the snipers on the walls you get to destroy in the first stage.

@@jaysistar2711 The SN76489 was kept in the Genesis' VDP for backward compatibility with Master System games.
@@madhatter8508 Yes, there's a Master System adaptor for the Genesys, and it uses what's already present in the Genesys where it can.
Was expecting a Hard Corps style cover, though it fits pretty well with Alien Soldier instruments!
Great job! :D
I've been waiting for a Contra 3 Genesis remix for years and this cover delivers, excellent job
Oh shit, I'm early! Contra 3 is one of my favorite SNES titles. Glad to see it getting some ym2612 love.

Great!
Would've loved to see Bill and Lance as hidden characters in Contra Hard Corps.

Much better than original
amazing cover. the part at 1:00 didn't disappoint
IT'S TIME FOR REVENGE!
Men, out of words...
f****n' awesome WORK
These sounds must be from alien soldier, particularly the drums and the long droning notes at the beginning
I would so love to hear what you could make out of the Stage 3 track... one of my all time favorites! :)
Awesome work!
That stage 3 track is incredible and really complements that flamethrower.
Need that Neo Kobe Steel Factory mix dawg
one of my favorite theme on Super Famicom , and that cover is awesome !

Wow! Really nice remix!
well done , really good one !
You should set up a Patreon m8. People would pay good money for more covers like this.

What about Bandcamp?
+Savaged Regime Which Skyrim mod is it?
I would really like to hear stage 2 genesis version
Amazing job, better than the originaç because has more "punch"
Word!
...YM2612 + SN76489 ? So , not possible if there was a port ....(sigh*) I think Konami could of done an awesome job with there best port of Contra III (Mega Contra!!) !!
the ym2612 is the fm chip, the sn76489 is the psg. the megadrive/genesis has both of those chips.
Oooh OK I see... Then the sn76489 must be the old master system chip I heard about , no ?
Reminds me of Gunstar Heroes! :D
Damn!
Fantastic Work Gecko. By any chance, you still have your remix of unkai from Axelay? That was my personal favorite of mine to listen.
For me, this is better than the original, could be all can do Genesis?
I miss your old stuff, like the Super Metroid genesis version
Was contra ever on the sega genesis?
there's Contra Hardcorps for the Gensis. Awesome game

Not sounds bad.but the original is best
id love to see a genesis version of stage 3's theme
