I appreciate your hard work preparing these videos mate. Just a note: I believe you have just reduced the harmonics of the sound in your first tip. With so high Q and boost values while seeking resonant freqs, the eq almost self oscillates and the root frequency and the harmonics may sound like resonance when they are not. I would recomend to use tip 1 to push a sound backwards or to get rid of room resonances or bad/clashing frequencies in recordings.
Reducing over boosting with an EQ is actually psychologically superior, whereas we are used to hearing cuts and reductions in sounds EVERY DAY in our lives, from walls and buildings, to cars and trees - almost everything is being reduced in nature, so it sounds more natural. You want to add more body to something or make a sound brighter? Distortion, upwards expansion, basically ANYTHING thats not an EQ boost.
Your tips helped this veteran engineer. Very crucial tips for producers and engineers. This can help thousands clean up their tracks because the engineer can only do so much to the stems you give them. The better quality stems equals a better quality mix overall and also gives room for the engineer to put some icing on the cake. Thank you for taking the time to make a video on this subject. Much appreciated!
The first tip is so basic but I never unterstood why people reduce specific frequencies that heavy. I feel like I'm now able to make my mixes 20 times cleaner
I know these are little things to be learned, but I'm seriously impressed at how well these tips work. I've been struggling on creating a clean sound for a while now, and this is the first tutorial that I've found that has dramatically helped. thank you so much for the tutorial!
omfg, thank you so much dude, you just gave me a serious breakthrough in understanding the mixing process. I was watching another tutorial describing it as 'deductive' mixing and your explanation made it even clearer. Learning how to mix and master seems so much less daunting now than it did before. thank you again, damn!
Thats what I thought.. But its anoying when you remove them and put them back in, you hear them all the time.. then you can easyliy think that these are resonating
All professional producers I’ve watched have done something wrong. From nick Mira, to Martin garrix, maybe not avicii r.i.p. but whatever, he still has the timbre he wants
Big advocate for eqing out those problematic frequencies. It’s almost on every channel in my tracks. See a lot of big name guys not using it and I have to chalk it up to lack of awareness and technical knowledge
When you boost the q and check for résonances, everything’s resonates .. it is a way of really destroying sounds. You really need to do this if it’s something popping and noticeable without the technique of swiping the hole spectrum
aymane eljahrani Exactly, if you have something like Fabilter you can really see those frequencies popping out and reduce them. The sweeping technique is not the way to go
Also on the first tip if you put the little headphone icon / monitor on and then use the "freq" knob to scan through with the gain on max.. you'll be able to sweep through the individual frequencies :) personal opinion*
Like a Nub, I was boosting with EQ for YEARS, and never really thinking it was all that, then I started mixing in LPX and couldn't make ANYTHING sound like I wanted, so I went to the REDUCTIVE EQ only, till I got my schidmt together, now I willing to boost with EQ a little bit.....
XEDDLLER Music with auto-tune, melodyne or slicing and working your ass off. So formant shifting tools would help too, but they may change the tembre, not the pitch of your track.
Sreejish Nair for sound design i would suggest you try out clipping or saturation. Limiters are compressors with extreme settings, they may trick you. So it is possible, that you get something different to see from what you hear.
nice tips! ... i think the biggest problem of all is to know what sounds good and what sounds bad. and don't trust your speakers or headphones if you haven't really professional ones :D
at number one Seems like you wanna kill all fundamentals/harmonics peak up? Thought our goal in Fm synthesis is show those up not kill? Am I wrong? Ofc I understand your point just wondering...
what synth are you using for that bass/brass sound in the background? feel like I've heard that in tracks like Blood On the Leaves by Kanye. I would like to use that in a dance track.
Hey can you make a vid, how to use the PuigTech MEQ5 and PuigTech EQP1A by Waves???? It EQs and Compress at the same time and I have a few problems while using them.
What was the name of that lead instrument at 8:30? I've been looking for it everywhere but I dont know the name so it makes searching for it a bit harder.
Can your bass and sub bass be in the same key? or does the kick, the bass and sub bass all have to be in different keys to prevent phase cancellation from happening?
They should be in the same key / tuned. It’s very unlikely to get phase cancellations with different instruments / different waveforms at the same key.
Can somebody explain to me, if for example i take a sample from splice or wherever.. how do i know if this is a mono or stereo sample ? I would highly appreciate any help!
I've always been slightly confused by this - what is the difference between a dynamic EQ and a multiband compressor? My instict that kind of goes with what is said in this video is that they are the same, however I feel like there must be a difference or they would be named the same thing...
Multi-band compressors always affect the passing signal; there can be phase shifting at the bands even with no adjustments. Multi-band compressor use ratio but EQ uses gain (more transparent). You can also dynamically boost frequencies with a dynamic EQ; with a compressor you cannot. Basically, if you need to do more EQ-like stuff you’d use a dynamic EQ.
Hello ... I have a question to ask . if the volume goes red on the master track, does it matters ? I always thought we should lower the volume and the gain in the EQ until it becomes green. I just want to know what does the red colour show on the volume bar on the master track represent. Thank you !
Please make a tribute or some kinda video for Avicii. He was a God. He deserves one and what better way to do it with one of the best channels related to music production which onlt caters to the core edm audience. I've been crying for a while now. Waiting for it.
Lyonpulse this one is gonna be a secret but listen up: turn it down or wear earplugs. For real though. Turn it down. If you can turn the volume down and still hear things clearly. You’re good to go for ears and mix.
Quick tip: putting your sound in mono will help you locate resonating frequencies easier.

Thanks

EQ TIPS :) for you guys
Zen World Hey zen can make a video on limiter like how to use it in master channel or in single track!!!
Piss myself laughing at 11:15

bingewatching your stuff for a bit, thank you for all those neat videos, including this one. (:

You Suck At Mixing explains it pretty well too.
Dude, you're amazing. Can't believe I just found your channel. Been going through all your videos and learning A TON. Thanks man!
I know these are little things to be learned, but I'm seriously impressed at how well these tips work. I've been struggling on creating a clean sound for a while now, and this is the first tutorial that I've found that has dramatically helped. thank you so much for the tutorial!
Thanks for believing us in 👊 thank you for the master tips 🔥🔥🔥
That is the most clear explanation of mid/side eq I've ever heard, thank you! I'm going to use it way more now, total game changer
Thank you for helping clarifying some true eq facts and for your videos.

I was watching another tutorial describing it as 'deductive' mixing and your explanation made it even clearer. You literally just removed essential harmonics. Ofc they sound bad when you boost them 12db
Thats what I thought.. But its anoying when you remove them and put them back in, you hear them all the time.. then you can easyliy think that these are resonating

Ure the best tutor on yt! Keep up the good work, plz more in style of Brejcha...i wanna learn those crazy organic grooves...
Very easy to go overboard with this! If you do it too much it will thin out your track and sound .... thin. Keep that warmth of it fits!
(Talking about first tip)
I think all of them can cause issues if overdone. Gotta clean up the mix but not too much that it loses character. Totally Agree :)
Best channel and best tips in every videos... Thank u a lot :)

Exactly. This is the perfect example of severe EQ overkill.
What do you mean by everything resonates?
@@mattm7426 i mean every frequency you’ll go thru. It can easily lead to confusion or agression towards a lot of frequencies
Well my day is ruined now. Zen didnt tell me "To have an amazing day". What am I supposed to do now??

XEDDLLER Music with auto-tune, melodyne or slicing and working your ass off. So formant shifting tools would help too, but they may change the tembre, not the pitch of your track.
Melodyne, Newtone, etc.
run it through melodyne, then drag the bad notes closer to the center of the grid. use sparingly
