    Lambo was respectful towards the learner. Only overtook when it was safe and did so at a steady speed, not jetting off at all. Kudos to that driver.

      @@andyowens5494 To be fair to the lambo on that one, it's a REALLY wide car and it doesn't turn very well. Keeping it perfectly in lane is quite a difficult thing to do.
      Of course I'm not saying they don't have to follow road laws, he does and it's a good thing people pick him up on it. However he drove respectfully and predictably and that kind of safe driving is what matters the most.

      @@bakersmileyface Agree, it's not an easy car to drive, which is why they should be a better driver to match the vehicle. Otherwise it's just showing off. A truck is bigger, but decent professional drivers know how to handle those; it ain't too hard for humans to manage.

    TBH it looks like the bus driver was thinking ahead. He could probably see that the two vehicles behind you were going to turn left and so would create a gap behind you, when you pulled away, where he could then pull in to the left.

      @RoamingAdhocrat ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking exactly this. Proper planning from the bus driver and using all the road space. If the learner driver had been a true novice and stalled and panicked, as happens, then remaining in lane 1 could delay the bus for a cycle of the lights. Only issue is the variable opinion on where the stop line is, preventing the learner driver seeing to the right.

    When I was taking lessons with my first instructor last year, I was lucky enough to find a Ferrari LaFerrari driving around near Dorney Lake - I live in Berkshire. Quite a cool sight! Shame my instructor (who I have since dropped for similar horrifying incidents) tried to steer me into the path of it because it had come around the bend a bit too close to my lane, and I was slowing down to let it go by!
    The thing that ultimately made me drop learning for a year was a similar incident where the instructor decided it would be a good idea to grab the wheel and throw me into the path of a Mercedes G-Class that was speeding up to overtake in the opposite lane, again while I was slowing down to let it get through - I had been doing everything right, slowing down gradually and clearly so the car didn't get rear-ended by anything behind me, but I got a near-death experience in exchange for my act of courtesy! The accident was avoided only because the Merc swerved out of the way, and I ended up having a full-blown panic attack.
    It's one year later, and with two years left on my theory certificate, I have both the confidence and the drive to get back behind the wheel and 'get on the road to getting on the road'. Here's hoping it goes better this time!

    Reminds me of a story I heard about a guy who bought a new Lambo (for whatever they cost), drove it off the dealer's forecourt and up to the lights just up the road. The lights were on green so he carried on. A car shot through on red and straight into the side of the Lambo, writing it off. He had had the Lambo for a total of 20 seconds before it was wrecked.

    The wife’s Volvo V40 does some dangerous things with its indicator stalk. The self-cancel on the indicator seems to follow through with enough momentum to activate the opposing indicator and when you want to flash at night (calm down!) you have to delicately pull the stalk towards you lest you activate the high beam.

    3:50 (Sorry if my english is pretty broken)
    In my country (Argentina), that kind of thing are really commond, here busdrivers sees themself like "the kings of the streets", they do things like:
    on the streets that there are BikeWays, if there is a lot of traffic and if there is no cyclists, they just drive in the bikeway like if that were another lane (personal experience)...
    Or, in a red light, if there is nobody watching they just ignore it and cross the street like if the traffic light did not exist.
    This is the best one:
    Even if there is not enough space on the other side of the street, they will just stop in the middle of the cross. And when the perpendicular lane have green light, they cant cross the street because there is a bus in the middle of the street waiting for green light.

    Bus incident is easily explainable probably thought you were going to turn left as the car behind is indicating and close so probably couldn’t see your lights and a passenger could have pressed the stop bell at the last moment.
    As for learners letting buses out it rarely happens and I’ve had one learner overtake me in a 30 zone while i was doing 30 with the instructor waving his hands to beat me to the merge!

    • @ashley_neal

    • @scottlaaa
      @scottlaaa 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ashley Neal why wait if you could have been turning left? Like I said it could have been an honest mistake by not seeing your indicators.
      I’ve noticed on a few of your videos that you teach your pupils to get ahead of large vehicles seems like a bad thing to do if I’m honest, only because when they pass their test you won’t be there to tell them if it’s safe or not safe. don’t forget that cars disappear in blind spots and will they have the thinking capability of this being on their own?
      My friend is is a driving instructor and one of his pupils passed last week and she has already written her car off by hitting a parked car and it landed on it’s roof, I can’t imagine how terrifying that must of been for her if they hit stationary vehicles will they think that hgv’s/buses cant see them or they need more room on bends/roundabouts to manoeuvre???

      scottlaaa 1984 “Could have”? Dont assume anything from anyone on the road. In the absence of objective evidence to the contrary, he should assume the car whose indicator he CANNOT see is going to go straight on. Why would anyone assume its going left unless its a left filter lane (and even then its not guaranteed - but hopefully being an instructed car with a bl%dy great “L” on the roof it would have followed any road markings). He knows he’s going to need to be in the left lane in a few yards, and IF both cars turn left, then he’d have a clear run anyway, so nothing “lost”.

      @WeeKev1910 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You’re right, the horn is the only thing you’re supposed to use, but only to make other road users aware of your presence! However, flashing the lights on the other hand isn’t allowed to be used as a give the right away signal during lessons or driving tests, think of it this way, there’s a car driving along the road, up ahead he spots 2 cars waiting to manoeuvre, theres a car waiting to come out of a junction and car trying to get into the same junction, the lights are flashed to let one of them do what they need to do but chaos follows... the 2 drivers think they have both been given the right away so continue to manoeuvre, but there was a pedestrian up ahead that wasn’t spotted, they too were waiting to cross the road and the pedestrian also took the same signal as a go ahead to cross.... shit can turn really ugly in a matter of seconds whilst driving, wait for your turn is the proper way to drive, You’re only supposed to flash your lights if you’re heading towards a blind bend and vision is reduced (night time drivers will understand), that way you let pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers know there is traffic ahead. 👍🏻

    Letting buses out, junctions clear and letting people out from side roads varies between cities. Where it's better people tend to act more often in interest of keeping traffic moving.
    When it's not in the culture, people can be confused refusing the offer or they go around you and block the road.

  • @loc4725

    I wonder if it's a good idea to teach learners to check their blind spot when moving outwards to exit spiral roundabouts? There's one near me and I often find people attempting to overtake from the *outside* , mainly because they've ignored the mandatory left turn markings or are just impatient.

    • @ikebuttle360
      @ikebuttle360 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LoC what’s a spiral roundabout

    • @loc4725
      @loc4725 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ike Buttle
      Assuming you're not American and know what a roundabout is (😃), a spiral roundabout is one where each lane (if followed) takes you to a specific exit. When staying in lane you eventually encounter a mandatory left turn off the roundabout, even if you initally entered in the innermost lane.
      The lanes are usually marked with arrows and which road or motorway it will take you to but unfortunately some drivers are apparenly illiterate and/or suffer from dyslexia and pass their designated turnoffs and effectively 'jump' lanes into traffic.
      And when that happens I've noticed they seem to have a habit of trying to overtake afforementioned traffic.

    • @ikebuttle360
      @ikebuttle360 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LoC there usually just called 3 lane roundabouts or multi lane, I understand what you mean but if your in a new area I have definitely missed exits and gone around a few times to make sure I’m going the right way, unless your cutting people off it’s not really a problem

    • @loc4725
      @loc4725 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ike Buttle
      I don't think they're the same thing. On spiral roundabouts each lane has a definite exit, and if you continue past that you'll end up driving into a different lane and potentially into traffic.
      Edit: that reminds me, when I was taking lessons my instructor once told me to hold back as another learner car was, in his opinion, in the wrong lane. Sure enough at the last second he realised his mistake, accelerated hard, drove past the exit and took the next.
      And he didn't have a learner with him!
