- Rishi Sunak has confirmed the Birmingham to Manchester leg of HS2 will be scrapped as he promised to reinvest the £36billion saved in other transport projects.
The Prime Minister said HS2 was the “ultimate example of the old consensus” and the economic case for the project had “massively been weakened”.

After thirteen years of abject failure, I hear nothing more than a desperate attempt to convince voters to not give up on the Tories. Ideals, pledges, ambitious and an appealing narrative which will never come to fruition…. They’ve adequately proved their capabilities and worth!
Don’t forget Tories took 13 years trying to sort out all the Labour F----ps caused by Blair and Brown when they destroyed the economy.

While all of Sunaks proposed changes actually make a lot of sense, I think the recent history of the Tory Party being full of false promises and corruption really just makes it hard to think that this isn't just a play to the audience with another load of false promises, again. Though I do see that Sunak seems different, and probably is a man to stick to his word. I and most others, honestly just don't trust any politicians anymore.

watching his speech I can't help thinking that he's basically saying that he has nothing but culture war, I've written to him asking why his government keeps framing support for palestine as antisemitic, he hasn't responded, I've also asked his home Secretary to take me to court so she can explain how support for palestine equates to antisemitism and the cops still haven't kicked my door down, I also wrote to his home Secretary asking how she concluded that multiculturalism had failed and how she defined its success or failure since she cannot define what it is she still hasn't written back.

Funny he wants to support small businesses because after 10 years building my engineering design consultancy and investing £25k on software, computers and 3D printers I am now thanks to Richy Sunak's IR35 regulations closing it down. The plan was to build a small consultancy then use it to invest in my own ideas I've been working on in space robotics, manage my time and money wisely, plus employ some people. However I've taken the £70k I'd saved out for R&D to pay off my mortgage and I'm in talks with US people who might support me over there.
Work hard all your life, study, fund yourself through Universities, set up your own business, be entrepreneurial, try to develop your ideas and then Sunak comes along and wrecks everything, this multi-millionaire who's totally removed from the real world is full of BS, he's made it impossible to get anywhere in this country.
Take some personal responsibility for your own actions and business... blaming others is easy

@@Umpt What a stupid thing to say, I am, from having family issues when young, I funded all my education and quantified myself in engineering, robotics, rocket science, now work in space/robotics design and plan to move to America to continue my own business and do R&D on my own inventions which is completely impossible in the UK and was always my plan. Plus I've paid off my mortgage and done up my house which is now worth £1/2 million, rebuilt the kitchen and bathroom myself etc so I have no financial commitments and can do what I want with my own life for once.
The Torys want to trap people like me chasing our tails, working 7 day weeks, earning just enough to survive, car loans, stealth taxes, mortgages etc, that's the truth behind IR35, it's about keeping the rich rich. Only I've beat them all and I'm not only taking responsibility for my business, but also my life, my ideas and my future.

I love that a few years ago the government setup funds just for small companies to help them. Money was given to their mates no Tues needed then what ever was left was dished out as loans which was totally against the original idea. So corrupt

Always thought HS2 was a vanity project and I never thought he would make me actually cry, my mum died of lung cancer in July 2023 so believe picking a fight against smoking is absolute genius but the small business hype is utter nonsense, I am about to have to close mine down as IR-35 has killed it unless I can emulate Steve Jobs like on his return to Apple. DWP and HMRC IT Systems are also really suffering under stress and think I am paying myself when I've been unable to since April 2023 so ZERO benefits for me, maybe they too can channel some inner Steve Jobs entrepreneurial spirit?
