Started the year with mega Weeks……went to hp mini…….went to personal rings….went to personal wide rings…..went to 1/2 letter discs…..now digital (IPad mini and OneNote) with a passport traveler’s notebook sidekick……🙃fun journey, though. Hope I stay here for a while. 😊
I also use the Hobo Weeks and pen & gear spiral combo & agree with you on how perfectly they work together! Also.. love the simplicity of your clear weeks cover and snap closure without bulky leather cover. Plus you can enjoy the cute kitties! Both my sons live 3 hours away and I truly understand how you are feeling. 😢 It helps to plan consistent times to go visit & have a meal or activity together. It will make you happy when you see those plans upcoming in your planner! ❤ Appreciate your videos!
I always appreciate your honest commentary. It really helps me think through things as well. I started the year in 4 different planners...it was a lot and very stressful. In my search for planner peace, all I found was planner chaos! In May, I order a purpose planner (which I love- it has so many options and trackers for those that are looking for that), but it was really overwhelming. Then I found Laurel Denise, and I have been loving it! I wouldn't say that I have found planner peace (YET) because I just haven't been in it long enough, but I am definitely content with my choice :) Currently planning in it while watching your video!
Thank you so much! I think so many of us have been through exactly what you’ve described, so you aren’t alone. I hope your current planner keeps you happy!
It’s great to hear your updates no matter what you are using 😊. I am in a planner funk myself. Been bouncing between my hobo cousin and rings but feel unsettled and like I need the freedom to write way more! I am craving my initial 2024 setup which was a calendar insert, blank notebook, and master list insert in a B6 TN. I may have just talked myself back into that 😂 silly planner brain.
I have been struggling with my planners too. I started out with a few at the beginning of the year, changed to a different bunch, none of it worked and in April I gave up and designed my own, printed, did my own stitch binding and put it in a weeks protective cover, and it has been my sidekick for the past three months. It has worked great and it was the only thing I used, but now I'm too lazy to make another one for the next quarter so I'm back in my planner-ordering phase and trying to work with four or five other planners for next quarter, but it isn't going to work. The problem is that I like too many planners! They are all so nice and functional in different ways and I want to use them all because I can't decide which ones I like best and it results in chaos. Last year I managed to have one planner all year, a Hobonichi Cousin. This year, it's chaos!
The spiral is real. First - sending al the positive vibes to you as you are struggling through this current time. I moved back into a weeks a couple weeks ago and spent time back planning and it's beautiful... and it works... BUT... lol I'm a daily page person as well and for the last couple years I've combined a b6 stalogy with my weeks, but for whatever reason I still want an all in one including my dailies so now I'm bouncing around with my b6 slim and personal TN's trying to decide if I want to switch. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a weeks and a stalogy, but its my brain... being a bound book and a TN girlie is rough!
Wow that's great that your able to overcome your stress over the planner. Life can definitely be hard. My a6 has definitely helped me overcome stressful situations. Its the stay at home planner. Ive learned tht i also need a small planner tht comes along with me. Mostly to schedule my appointments. I am going to continue 2025 in my a6. Thanks for the vid.❤
I think it’s important to remember that when having goals and trying to self improve, it’s just as important (if not more) to celebrate not going backwards and into old habits than it is to move forward. I imagine goals as a game of snakes and ladders. Yes you may not be rolling big numbers or getting ladders at the moment, but at least you aren’t hitting snakes and going back to the beginning!!
I started the year in a Hobonichi Hon and Cousin and am currently in the N1 and B6 Sterling Ink Compact vertical planners. I had the same issue with the Hobonichi paper. I even tried a Weeks and an A6 and just couldn’t get over the fussiness of the paper. I’m likely going to go with Sterling Ink again for next year. I love that all of the pages are functional and don’t have a bunch of writing on them. Plus, the dailies are undated, so I don’t feel pressure to journal or list every day.
I have been in a similar boat and just got my hobo mega to gove a try for a month. Life changes have brought on a lot of the dilhema. Not sure i can make the bound book work, but the size and portability draws me in. I do like to have lists organized and so this will be a challenge in the bound book. Also, for a daily list i was going to just put on a post it on the pencil board type of thing that will hold my week page. Hoping this will help my need for the messy but not permanent feelings i struggle with.
I’ve been all over the place this year. Started with a Cousin for work… fell off that because I hated how messy I was being in such a good planner. (Why do we do that lol)… then switched to a pocket weekly moleskine which worked but I didn’t like how small it was in my hands??? So ordered a heavily discounted regular 2023-2024 weekly moleskine for the thickness and extra space. It’s working out okay, it’s messy and serves its purpose, just isn’t cute 😂 for personal life… I tried using a Hobonichi Weeks but, like to use it as a pretty memory planner similar to you and it was just too much for me to keep up with so it’s sitting in my bag untouched for months now. Seems to be the usual pattern for me! I did order a beautiful Hemlock & Oak thinking it would be my daily journal since this year has been so heavy emotionally, but per usual life is just too busy and there hasn’t been time. Whenever I feel the urge to plan, I just come watch your videos and live vicariously through you 🥰😘
Oh friend, sometimes the tough years make us bounce the most! I love the Weeks and the Moleskine most. I love seeing the Weeks for memories and LOVE writing in Moleskine paper.
i’m on at least planner #15. there’s probably not more than one week in a row in any of them. this year has been chaos and i only have myself to blame. too many options. 🙄 well, i’m also keeping track of my daddy now and that hasn’t been easy. your weeks looks really great! ❤ keep going if it’s working. it sounds like it’s working. it looks like it’s working. 😊
I really like using the Sharpie S-GEL no smear no bleed black ink medium 0.7mm pens in my Hobonichi Weeks!! They work really great! Love your videos! 😊🖊️
The Uniball One is amazing on Hobonichi paper. Been using both .38 and .5 and enjoying them a lot. I don't planner hop because i don't have time to back fill and I have horrible memory so I need everything in one book. 🤷🏼♀️ That doesn't stop me from experimenting for next year and by now I have a few options I've tested out and liked.
@@samplans Right? Plus it's horrible for my perfectionism because the pages have to look lived in (they won't) but better than the original (they won't) and still more tidy because I'm setting them up deliberately... Nope, this is really not for me 😅
I've been in the PaperTess standard size planner and really enjoying it. I tried the hobo cousin after years of wanting it and I HATED it so I'm back in moleskine large for dailies and the world is okay.
I have my pocket rings with larger pages and my passport TN with DIY graphed notebook for a bujo, I like to switch them if I need it. I like that it's all small and compact. If I need bigger pages, I have the DIY graphed notebook in a Standard TN.😂
@@samplans I took the pocket moterm luxe, change the rings to the smaller diameter, and put the A6 pages inside. They are not even pocket+, they are the A6 size.
Wanted to answer your question about the Sanzen Hobonichi paper. I have extra Weeks and I am choosing to redate them because I refuse to cross over. I have bought some other brand planners that have Tomoeagawa Paper. I have a planner that I am pretty consistent in, but I like having a variety right now. I’m hoping next year to stick with the same system with the same size planner and journal. We will see.😣
Started the year with a cat weeks. Then decided I wanted the apple red weeks. Got rid of cat weeks. Also been using the larger daily moleskine this year, but this month really falling off. Just ordered the second half year avec which starts in July. Bad things happened this year and as a result I am coping with shopping. Which I recognize is not helping but also having difficulty controlling it.
Started this year in a Hobonichi Cousin and still in it… although, I did not touch it for like two months. Just didn’t plan at all during that time. 😬 But when I am in it, it really works for me. I have found the layout and purpose for each section that really works for me. That definitely took time to work through. I have been hopping all around for a work planner system though. From digital back to paper… from disc-bound to spiral. I can’t seem to find what works for me for work. 😩
At least you have something for your personal planning all set! Work planners can be tough. I’m glad I can make the wall calendar and daily to do work. I hope you find your perfect fit!
I've been using my Sterling Ink horizontal TN Common Planner since January and I love the layout so much. I just wish it was a little bit bigger. I'm really hoping she'll come out with a horizontal A5 or B6 planner for 2025. That would be my absolute dream planner. If not, I'll just stick with the TN size. I love the Sterling Ink layout too much to change.
I was using the same planner but for some reason I wanted to be in a different planner. Still trying to decide if I should switch from my B6 journey planner or not
If I had to place the order for 2025 today I’d get an A5 hobo avec and a weeks. Currently in a weeks (love) and an a5 HON and it’s nearly so perfect! Just too heavy. So the avec might be the solution!
My 2025 "whole year" catch all planner is a Papertess Designs "The Yearly Book" undated that I dated for 2025. I also have a paper cover Hemlock & Oak 2025 Daily coming in that I plan to use for a daily journal, a paper cover Hemlock & Oak 2025 Weekly that I plan to use for productivity and life admin, and a Hemlock & Oak 2025 horizontal weekly that I plan to use for scripture writing. I may or may not also keep a creative bullet journal depending on how things go between now and December with my current one.
I jumped from Erin Condren to happy planner to Hobonichi Cousin to digital back to Hobonichi back to digital back to…yada yada yada. I don’t know what I want to do. I hate it.

That’s a great idea, thanks so much. 💛
OG bullet journaling in a moleskine pocket sized since November. I've only ever used a larger size and am loving how portable this one is.
I love Moleskine paper. I went with the large this year, and still use it when I feel like journaling.
I’ve used a passport TN and have finally finished the insert, so I’m allowing myself to move to a pocket TN for fun as long as the inserts last.
I REALLY like the size of pocket TN. 😍
LOVED this video. During our struggles, it's nice to have something consistent. My hobonichi has been my constant since 2018! Thanks for sharing❤
Thank you, I’m so happy you’ve got a constant sidekick!!
❤ just spent my afternoon back planning and transferring info from my hobonichi and personal rings into my “new” wonderland 222 lol 🤷♀️
Back planning can be very relaxing! I hope you enjoy the wonderland!
Loved this video Sam!! Happy to hear how much more comfortable you are with whatever planner decisions you make. That’s a win on its own!
