so I saw yungblud tonight, in denver. and after the show he was signing merch. I got the chance to thank him for writing this song as it gave me the courage to be open about my sexual assault story. while he performed it he said “this is for the ones that feel they can’t say no.” and so on. after I told him what the song meant, he said “I hope you where able to leave it all in the venue, I do it for people like you, and I am so proud of you, I love you.” I had never ever felt so connected to any celebrity and felt the kindness and trueness radiate out of someone like I did tonight.

The moment I heard Polygraph Eyes I decided that when my son was older I will play it at home. For me the song hurts physically to listen to. It truly captures what being a young woman is like.
With inexperience or lack of confidence you can be taken advantage of so easily.
Not just drunk either... you might have lost a purse and accept help to get home or be flattered that someone keeps shouting you drinks.
You mightn't realise he may say he has a right to 'payment' or guilt you into thinking this showed you consented. And sometimes you just give in because he's stronger than you and you're afraid then hate yourself for not standing up for yourself.
The worst part is that usually noone around you will say a word, intervene or warn you. They'll just judge you as an idiot or a whore. Or be angry silently but feel they don't have the right to intervene.
I have so much respect for Dom writing this song. It shows how important male role models are to young men. If you tried to take advantage of someone and other men called you out on it and told you it counts as rape or asked you how you'd feel if that was your sister or mother or girlfriend perhaps you'd change your mind.

As a mum of 4 boys originally from Donnuy ( Doncaster, the same place as Dom) this attitude was among one of the many reasons I moved away. I wanted better than that for my lads to grow up in.
