  • This video is about my KTM 790 Adventure and the Seat Concepts Low Comfort Seat as I'm a short rider. It shows the difference between the stock seat and the low seat and how much more, of my foot I can get down.

    It is a physical figure. It is regrettable to put the rear accessory case quickly, but I think that the footing that can be obtained with this seat is wonderful in order to prevent falling on the forest road. Thank you very much.

    I took my first ride today on my Seat Concepts low seat on my 790R. I must say it's a much nicer seat than the stock. I really didn't have an issue with the stock seat though, just needed it a tad lower.

      Hey Joel. Did it feel noticeably lower or just a tad on the R? How tall are you? I’m trying to see if at 5’ 6” I can make the R work with toes on the ground with the seat concept seat.

  • @IDHPI

    You definitely need to set the SAG on your bike and you will probably see that you can’t set it properly because the rear spring is too hard. Changing it for a lighter one professionally would most likely benefit you in term of road characteristic and bike height when on it.

    • @Adv_Charlie
      @Adv_Charlie  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I will. I have found a KTM dealer with WP technicians so I will have them set it up for me.

    • @IanMrozewski
      @IanMrozewski 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah,. the suspension is design to work with the sag in mind, because if you have no sag then any dip in the road becomes something your entire bike goes into instead of being absorbed by your suspension.

  • @mabsbry1318
    @mabsbry1318 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Trick. Shorter rear spring. Also, I find, turning toes out as much as poss helps with feeling stronger as sideways wobble is taken up by the length of the foot. I also thoroughly recommend Lindstrands (champ?) boots that are laced and Velcro. They are seriously good at gripping the surface and definitely have a thicker sole so reach is more solid and easier. They are about £100 and they have made a huge difference for me on my 1290 Adv

    • @Adv_Charlie
      @Adv_Charlie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t want to lower the bike as i’d lose ground clearance. I have since changed the suspension so it’s sprung for my weight that means the sag is now correct and therefore does lower a little when I sit on it. Boots wise I now have Tech 7’s. Not sure I understand your toes comment. I keep the balls of my feet on the pegs and toes in to the bike so they don’t get caught up by rocks or bushes

    • @Adv_Charlie
      @Adv_Charlie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have two issues with that. 1) it lowers the ground clearance which is not what you want to do when riding off road. 2) if you lower the rear you must lower the front so the geometry of the bike is correct. I'm currently happy with the height of my bike however the suspension is not going to work best for me with it’s stock spring rates and setup.

    • @FanOWater

    Useful video Charlie. I've had my Adventure for about two years - originally I bought the R but found that too tall even for me (I'm 6' and 69 years old), so I immediately changed it for the Standard 790 Adventure. Actually, seat height is OK for me but the standard seat design is horrible - as you can see from your still shot of the two seats side by side, the standard seat has very sharp edges to left and right. That means that for anyone trying to put their feet down, regardless of height, that edge digs right into the inner thighs and within an hour, it's really hurting and making my foot numb (I acknowledge this may be a function of being old). That edge also drives your feet more outboard from the bike centre line, and more outboard also means higher - for sure, this is another reason you struggle to get your feet down. By contrast, your new Comfort seat is much more rounded on the sides . . . way better ergonomically. The KTM seat is a triumph of styling over ergonomy! Strange that few reviews pointed this out!

    • @Adv_Charlie
      @Adv_Charlie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s very true and interesting never really thought about the sharp edges

      @@Adv_Charlie Yesterday, I had a test ride on a Ducati Multistrada V4, which is a really brilliant bike and super comfortable. Afterwards, I got on the KTM and it felt much lighter (it is of course!) and more lithe, especially;y at slow around town speeds. I wondered why I was on the point of spending all that money on a new bike, when all I need is a better seat! That's when I came across your video about the Seat Concepts all in one seat - trouble is, where to get one? I see you imported yours, but isn't that going to be hugely expensive? Do you mind telling me what it cost by the time you had paid the duty?

    The problem ist that you can't make a seat too low. At the one side you loose comfort, at the other hand it's also the seat width that determines how well you get you feet down. Since the width of the bike is given and can't be made slimmer, there is a limit for when a lower seat will give you a better ground contact. If you make it too flat it might even give you a relatively sharp edge on the sides, that presses into the leg muscles - so not really comfortable in the long run.
    Being 1.71m with a 30'' inseam I have the same problem as you. I am using currently the S seat on my R in the lower position and can manage the bike quite well, even with just one foot flat down. Pushing the bike forward or backward is of course almost impossible, I need to get off for that, but what's the problem with that?

    • @Adv_Charlie
      @Adv_Charlie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found the stock S seat the most uncomfortable seat I have ever had. The Seat Concepts is a massive improvement for comfort, I can and have ridden full 400 mile days in the seat no issues. As I showed in the video I can get one foot down much better with the lower seat, I completely understand about having a seat so low that it then becomes too wide. One of the reasons I can't really ride Harley's even with the very low seat heights is that the seats are so wide I can't touch the floor. Not that I would want a Harley but it's a good example. Like you I also get off the bike to push it backwards.

    • @Adv_Charlie
      @Adv_Charlie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I had to use google translate to English so I hope I've understood your question properly. Firstly my 790 is not the R it's the Standard model which makes it 40mm lower than the R even in the showroom. As you can see from this video the new seat is lower which makes it a little easier to get to the floor. I have just brought new suspension but in my case that's not to lower the bike but to re-spring it to my weight and make it full adjustable. You can buy lowering springs for both the 790 S and the R. The cost all depends on what option you go for. you could get the stock seat custom shaped of buy a brand new after market one. My seat was about £300 I think including import taxes. For suspension new springs are a far cheaper than a full upgrade, so prices range from a few hundred to a few Thousand.

    • @Adv_Charlie
      @Adv_Charlie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The SC seat is 1” lower i’m unsure about the KTM one if it’s 1” too then i’d guess it’s the same hight however then it’s a question of comfort. I found the stock seat quite hard and uncomfortable the SC seat is far more comfortable then the stock 790S seat, for my bum anyway. 😀

      No I do mean the S model as in the non R. Or though KTM call it the "790 Adventure" the "standard" version has "790 Adventure S" on the VIN sticker. Also the stock 790 "S" seat is a two piece where as the 790R seat is a single seat. The Seat Concepts Low Comfort seat is also a single seat as you can see in my video. Hope that clarifies things a little.

    1. Foam & cover kit
    2. Foam & cover kit+ OEM rear cover
    3. Front and rear comfort kits.
    I really don’t know what option to pick
    Edit: and also can you still put the seat in the taller position with the new seat. I’m 6’2”

    • @Adv_Charlie
      @Adv_Charlie  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My seat came as a completely new seat so it was a straight swap. The only options I chose was the low slip top and orange stitching.
      I think the low seat only goes in the low position because if you could put in the high position it would rather defeat the purpose of a low seat.
      However i’m sure the other SC options like the standard comfort seat would work in both.
      This is my first and only seat concepts seat I own so I can really only tell you about this one, I have no experience of the others in their range.

      Or though I have only ever used one leg. Some people like to be able to flat foot on both sides, for their own confidence. I included the both legs part to make a point that I can’t touch the floor, yet still own and ride this bike. It’s all about thinking of others and what makes them feel comfortable. As a short and light rider I have seen and spoken to lots of girls and small guys that will not ride some bikes unless they can get both feet down. This is a shame, so it’s good to show them that it’s only an issue in their head and they can ride the bike they want.
