  • Su-30MK demonstration flight. This two seats fighter looks really big. Slow and graceful flying. Too bad in 2007 & 2009 he doesn't perform Colbit maneuvers.

    @popmerde The Raptor is another story, the US did a hell of a job with its stablity and performance, but it's the TVC that makes it agile.If it wasn't for the TVS,I'd be surprized if it would actually be able to turn.
    Ontopic:the Su-30MK is one of the most maneuverable aircraft on the planet, no need to compare it with anything.

    IRST has to be guided to a target somehow.It needs to be shown where the target is, it is a TV camera not an IR seeker (although it can sort of function as one).MiG-29s are capable of stealth attacks only with the use of heat-seeking versions of missiles like the R-24 or R-27, and that's at very limited ranges (about 15km max).

    IRST functions independently of radar.This is what makes for example a MiG-29 capable of a passive stealth attack.Although IRST has a limited range.But once you've got enough heat signature from the target,you don't need a target lock.

    The su-30 is still in development, actually Russia and India are in talks to manufactur a new Su-30 with new improvements, guess they will take many things from Su-35BM and improve it

    Extraordinary plane - for an air show but here's some hard facts: the Dogfight Era is gone, long since replaced with today's Stealth Era. If you don't have it, then hey, you ain't got it. This jet's maneuverability is phenomenal but its modern era fighter capability is no match for cutting edge stealth aircraft and no one even comes close to the level of US stealth technology. Sorry, Ruskies - that's just the way it is.

      @cumulusnimbus8717 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh yes. While you are totally invisible to the enemy, a red dot will appear on your screen. You will launch a missile and some seconds later the red dot will disappear. Just like those F-22 games you play. Sorry yankees, but reality is a little more complicated than that. Even today, when you fight those great wars against incompetent air forces in the middle east you don't fire until you get visual confirmation, because you just can't identify the dot you see on the screen, when there is a dot.

    • @Mach1Airspace
      @Mach1Airspace 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what the AWACS and drones are for. Recognizing an enemy 200 miles out. What era data book are you learning from? 1960 dog fighting 101?

    • @cumulusnimbus8717
      @cumulusnimbus8717 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, you are telling me that if I fire an anti-radiation missile, like the russians have now, to destroy or at least to force the AWACS to turn the radar off, the precious, expensive and "stealthy" f-22 will be blind? I have another question. What do you think is cheaper and more logical? To build a whole fighter around the concept of stealth or to develop a radar able to counter that stealth? For how long do you think the stealth technology will be usefull against advanced, competent air forces? My point is that one technology anulates the other. In the end you can't throw away dogfights.

    • @Mach1Airspace
      @Mach1Airspace 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cumulus Nimbus
      Russian radiation missiles can't travel ground to air 300 miles distant where AWACS operate at. Every air force on earth is at least 5 years (conservative estimate) behind US GEN 5 stealth. When they catch up, US will be operating at GEN 7. Everyone other than US is just another wannabe in effective St Technology. Last dog fight was during Iraq war 25 years ago when US showed up with GEN 1 and everyone fled to Iran or died. Dogfights? Gone. Face it.

    • @cumulusnimbus8717
      @cumulusnimbus8717 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That missile is air to air. Please, cut that "generation" talk. It's just a mindless Cliché. Propaganda from your DoD and the military industrial complex to take away your tax money. They say they can deliver a product that has no way to be proved. And you still believe it.

    @mauricioalfredo83 The Su-27's chassis is truly an amazing piece of art.It is aerodynamically neutral, and that's what gives it its agility.Many countries have developed fighters with a great level of maneuverability, but no nation has ever achieved what the Russians did with the Su-27.
    P.S. Just for the record, the F-22's TVC is 2D ;)

    I mean what do you think Sukhoi designers should have done with this aircraft so that it could become better?
    Is RCS really important? Even very Low observable flying objects can be detected by electro-optical radars.

    No problem, we all have other things to do :)
    IRST sensors are not really capable of searching for IR emissions because the sky is a vast space and they have no clue where to look.Perhaps in close ranges they can find something, but for longer (read as "combat-efficient) ranges they need something to tell them where to look at.
    The RQ-170 was most likely hacked, but not detected via IRST.Even visual contact is possible.

    I wish Sukhoi had made it even better...but now this poor plane (that could have been a supermaneuverable strike eagle) suffers from lack of modern electronics and a HUGE RCS.

  • @F22raptor46

    I know, and so the F-22 is an awesome plane!!!

  • @Rouhollah74
    @Rouhollah74 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry for replying very late.
    I'm confused.IRST detects objects that give off infrared radiation.I know it will function much more efficiently if the pilot knows where to look for the target.(for example from the source of a hostile airborne radar emitter.) But it doesn't necessarily require target coordination.
    Yes, the range is limited for IRST and passive stealth attack ,but I don't think that the Low observable RQ-170 has been intercepted by an IRST system!

    @popmerde feel free to say it, as long as you're not going to spam your rage on me.It probably will matter,because I'm not American, I live on the other side of the planet, hehe.What I'm saying is that it's a good plane, but it has its disadvantages.Firstly, look at its size.We're talking about an enormous RCS (I've read articles getting it as high as 12m2 (squared).Secondly, despite the fact that it has been heavily modernized, some importance should have been given to the strike role too.

  • @F22raptor46
    @F22raptor46 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually without TVC the F-22's maneuverability would be like an F-18, but with it it comes close to an Su-35 I know its not as maneuverable but is good enough

    I think that they should have invested in electronics, weapons and low observability.RCS is still an extremely important factor, because EO sensors cannot scan for infrared sources on their own.They are slaved to the radar.In order to lock onto a target with an EO sensor (e.g. an IRST) you need to find that target first with your radar, or another plane should tell your radar where the target is.
