It's hilarious to read comments where they criticize the drummer or Sting himself because the song doesn't sound like the original, or the version with Vinnie, or any other of the many drummers Sting has played with. None of them understand absolutely nothing of what Sting does with his own music. Searching, experimenting with different musicians who sound different. That's what it's all about. He didn't stay in the past. He finds new ways. He dares. He is an artist who has never been afraid. Those who criticize him are still stuck in the past. This gentleman is far beyond their reach.
Miles Davis got the same criticism. Everyone wants an artist to stay where they were. They have played the song 50 or 100 times before we hear it upon release. Then they play it 1000s upon 1000 more times, and "fans" complain it's not like the album. Then go home and listen to it on your device; the artist is moving on.
@@NickHolum I understand wanting Sting + Vinnie. I'm thankful Sting didn't want that, because we would have missed the 2005 tour with Josh Freese and the more recent tour with Zach Jones.
I disagree with all of the negative comments. I find this to be quite amazing. Sting’s voice sounds great. It feels like an updated version for the current times.
I don't agree with most comments. Sting always finds ways of breathing new life into his old songs, and hushing the chorus is a great effect in this song.
Agree, he always makes these perfect songs sound new and interesting using different musicians, i am sure he would not hire a lousy drummer :0))) especially not a lousy drummer, little bit different of course.
Dominic Miller is not a “backup musician”. The ignorance of some of the comments here is amazing. While the Police was a great band for 5 years, Dominic Miller has been a permanent member of Sting’s band for 35 years and has contributed immensely to Sting’s catalogue. Chris Maas is a new drummer but totally amazing. This band has nothing to prove to justify itself as an “alternative to the Police” - Sting is 40 years past that.
Sting at 73-years-old is still releasing new songs, on tour, performing full concerts and not holding back his vocal performance. Not many singers at any age would perform live with a three piece band and no backing singers. It’s all a wonder to watch, inspiring and very motivating.
The beauty of the original studio recorded version is.... it still exists and can be listened to at a moments notice, as many times as one desires. A live performance is something else entirely... spontaneous, living, breathing entity. Was the same for the Police playing live. Saw a recent interview where Copeland said he's never played the same exact version of any of their songs twice. That he much prefers the intuitive, spontaneously creative nature of playing live over in the studio.
No the negative comments are because the guitarist and drummer are playing completely different parts than the original. Objectively they’re fine musicians but missing the mark of the Police. Has nothing to do with the recording method.
Sure his voice isn't the same as 40 years ago, and he does full tours with the entourage of backup players and singers. But at 73 he can still play the hell out of a bass and his band jams! I'm betting his voice is feeling the strain of multiple shows at this point, just my take!
He's alright. Lacks the drive and energy of Stewart though. Not sure why he's quieting down so much in the chorus. That was probably Sting's idea, haha. But it doesn't sound as good as the original.
He’s clearly a great drummer but his playing in this song does not work. Anyone can thump away like that. It’s way too heavy and cumbersome. What Sting is doing here is dreadful IMO.
imagine being a musician and having huge hits and playing them exactly the same for nearly 50 years. how boring. sting has always changed things up. different musicians. different arrangements. the police were the police. why would he want a different group of musicians to play his music exactly the same as the police did ? i saw this configuration a few weeks ago and they sounded incredible. new takes on old tunes. dominic and chris are amazing players. sting played all his hits, he changed some of them up a little bit. songs evolve. musicians evolve. this is more rock and roll than an old band going out and just playing the hits exactly the same for 40 years.

@@calwells5612 Sorry but Sting is actually only 73, and? Is touring right now with his POWERTRIO" 3.0 As the tour began in Sept. going into 2025 with him playing solo catalog but especially his Police tracks, and from what I've heard? either bring Stewart(72) and Andy(81) As he's not doing justice to those songs! Also both are touring a well with their currents solos projects, like many who are of that age.
That drummer is definitely definitely., definitely noStewart, or Omar, or Vinnie. Or even very close to being up to the job. Which is sad. Mr. Sumner, I am sure, is aware of this.. Very sad.
dude, yeah, ok; he’s none of those guys blah blah blah…but ‘not close to being up to the job’? That guy is ON STAGE WITH STING. He’s not only up to the job….he GOT the job. Your comment is bunk.
Of course it's none of them. That's what playing an instrument is all about. It's about personality and sound. That's why Sting plays with him. But I doubt you know more than Sting does about that.
He can still put on a great show but I think it’s clear that as he’s getting older, he can’t reach those high notes…it happens to the best of us…I was wondering why this wasn’t another Police reunion but I think Andy and Stewart might have trouble adapting to this pace…idk…🤷🏻♂️ Excellent set though!!!
I am a huge fan of Sting, but for my taste the drummer is murdering the song on the snare. Compare to Copeland, who is all over the drums, hardly on the snare, giving much more space to Sting and the guitar whilst being so much more groovy at the same time.
Sting is great - a genius, really. But this has none of the energy of a Police show. These are all great musicians, but on the whole they're nothing even close to matching the Police. Even with Sting's great, great songwriting, playing, and voice, he still needs Andy and Stewart to be at his best.

Yeah but Vinnie is a tuff act to follow and also evolves. Nothing wrong with wanting Vinnie + Sting
Well fact is the police sound better..its chemistry..ha ha

No slight against these guys, as I do like Dominic, but I do agree with you completely.

really cool arrangement and what a performance ! his voice is also unbelievable for his age
This band is unbelievable ❤
thanks for sharing!
Wow, his voice is incredible for 73. Sting is always reaching for new things musically speaking. I want to be like that when I’m 73 smiley.
Awesome!
Gracias por compartir...
Sting nuevamente en modo trio.excelente👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Very good version indeed... Great
Wow Sting 3.0 🎸🎶🎶🎶
Wtf is it with all those negative comments below!? This is what a live band sounds like when recorded through a phone LoL

You've said it perfectly.
I find that phones get all the top end and not bass bass (kick) drum or bass guitar.
Wireless phone, please. Without oberdubs. LoL
Love the dynamics!
Super talented guy, terrific artist
The guy is an amazing talent Dominic miller ain't no slouch he wrote the riff for shape of my heart

We need The Police 2.0
Wow! Sting really needs to get back with Andy and Stewart, cause what he’s doing now? Isn’t good or respectful to his past!
Unfortunately, Andy is in his 80's now. No way we ever get another Police tour.
