I've been watching your vlogs for quite awhile - I even checked out Privetricker - I got curious and went back and watched to find out why you discontinued it (curiosity) - Never realized you learned by ear and I just wanted to say your a pretty amazing guitar player. I've been dabbling with the guitar for years and in the last few years have gotten more into theory thinking it would help me become a better player which has helped. You amaze me because it seems like you can play almost anything - I actually like watching you play because helps me recognize chords visually from the other side of the fretboard quickly which is indespensible when trying to learn a song quickly at a jam. Any way just saying keep it up and screw the trolls ( via Privetricker) Happy Day !

Was just listening to this yesterday on the 80s channel on XM radio. Thought about how awesome it would be to play it. Never ever would've been able to figure it out. What a classic tune.

This one is not only great fun, but the structure of it strikes me as quite brilliant and original, within the genre. I gotta learn that hook behind the chorus. Thanks again for opening my mind. (I've always enjoyed this song, but now I really admire it).
I learned most of this song from your PT video which I see you took down. I noticed a few changes. Did you purposely make changes or did you just like this version better? Thanks
I think this one is closer, especially the double-stops in the solo. I had figured that was done via overdub, but someone on the other channel suggested working that solo out on one guitar, and I think that guy is right. It's done on one guitar.
Still to this day, it baffles me how a one hit wonder from the 80's has guitar work that tops many rock & roll classics

If you want to become a good (lead) guitarist, learning your scales is a really good way to go

That's the hardest part. Playing the songs isn't all that difficult, but remembering the changes is work.

Anyone remember off hand if this song came before or after Bowie's China Girl? The little "oriental" riff on both songs probably isn't coincidence...

+rex racer Iggy's version of China Girl came out in 1977, three years before Turning Japanese. Regardless, I think the similarities are coincidence.
Alex Lifeson on Passage To Bangkok by Rush in 76 did some thing similar first.
