I have been touring india since a decade and so i have tasted food in different regions of india. From my experience bengal is very far ahead than most of the states in india in terms of heritage, food varieties and unique tastes and obviously the sweets.

There are tons of vegetarian dishes in Bengal but those aren't commercialized in restaurants much. We cook so much veg dishes in home.

@@TheBharat645 you may be correct & there's a historical background of strict Bengali caste system & oppression to widows to mandatory consumption of Veg food by them, contributed to develop rich vegetarian recipi/cuisine in Bengal & become a part of their culture! However, off late the new generation moved away almost completely from that culture & nowadays it's very difficult to find pure veg authentic bengali vegetarian cuisine restaurants in Kolkata or its surrounding nowadays!
Alu posto, potol er dorma, alu kopir torkari,basanti polao, bandha kopir bora, bokful baja, bejun bhaja, beguni, alu alu posto,jinghe alu posto, labrar torkar, mulor torkari, dal siddho, dhone pata bata try these too. This is also bengali veg dishes. With desserts which were made from bengali home cooks for celebrating paush mahina which is peethe, puli, patisapta and try bengali ladoos from coconut known as naru, also not to forget moya , another famous desert.
Finding veg food in Kolkata..hats off to you.. being in Kolkata for many years veg food is quite limited there.. Thanks for the video..I guess vegetarians like me will not have problems now

Thats a misconception, bengali cuisine has more numbers of vegetarian dishes than non veg. Besides of common vegetables bengalis include many non-common vegatables like Snake gourd ( Chichinga), banana stem(thor), tender colocasia stem( kachur loti), banana flower(mocha), ridged gourd(jhinge), spiny teasel gourd(kakrol), onion flower shoot( peyajkoli), ivy gourd (kundri), elephant foot yam(ol), pumpkin flower, elephant apple(chalta),long beans(barbati),and many more with lots of varieties of leafy vegetables(shaag).
Although for a non Bengali i can understand from where they are coming from. North Indians are kind of racist towards bengali , mocked us -"machii khata hain."
@@Abir-o8q actually these dishes are not commercialized. These vegetables are not even available in most states. Their vegetables are carrot, potato, capsicum, bhindi. That's it. If we say kach kola, kulekhara saag, lau shaak they can't understand

The snacks were different, you could have the mochar chop, the chhana'r matarshuti chop (chhana, not chhena) are OK by themselves, as starters before the meal (there are no starters before a traditional Bengali meal).
The meal proper starts with the Shukto had with rice, the mildly bitter, astringent taste cleansing the palate, followed by Saag, but you didn't order any of that, and then dal and veg. The problem at this point is to decide between rice and some kind of roti. In your specific case, it would be dhokar dalna, chholar dal and any combination of luchi, koraishuti's kochuri and radhaballabhi. Once you've ploughed through that, it's time for Chaatni and Paapad, and then Doi Mishti, which you skipped by ordering just a Bhaapa Doi.

Luchi, btw, is a puri, just a puri, but a puri made with maida (puris being made with atta).
Also Chholar Dal doesn't really go well with rice. It can be consumed but there are far better combos. There are two varieties of Chholar Daal (even many Bongs have this mis-conception that Chholar Daal=sweetish because of our sweet shop Chholar Daals). One is far more popular sweet variety and the second is a lesser known salty variety. My personal taste is sweetish Chholar Daal does better with Kochuris (or Radhaballavis, if one doesn't want to opt for Alur Dom), but luchi tastes far far better with the salty variety. In case of stuffed breads like Kochuri, the sweetish Chholar Dal rocks as it cuts the saltyish taste of the bread. But plain luchi is sweetish in itself, if one really wants further sweetness, they should go for the Luchi-Mohanbhog combo.

Good afternoon dear Tanmay bro - Lunch at 6 Bollygunge Place . The manger Rajkamal is too good explaining each dish with its ingredients and also helping with the Combo dishes . Whoa you are eating green chilli as if it’s a candy 🍭🤣🤣 The ambience of the restaurant, decor , plates design is all classy . Thank you Nilesh . The mutter chenna croquettes look yummy 😋. The mixed veg stew is unique . For me most of the dishes are unique which I haven’t tried before . I have had Aloo Dum quite a few times . Aunty has already caught you licking your fingers . Special sabji apne kuch order hi nehi kiya. Chechra ya to fir Labra in dono mai se kamsekam ak to order karna chahiya tha. Ghanto, Kochur Sag, Posto ye sab vi special bengali veg dish hai. Chanar Kaliya to mera favourite hai.
