A Heart to Seek Wisdom
Jude 1:24-25
“Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.”
I couldn’t help but notice how that the wisdom of God is connected to the glory of God. If we want to fulfil our purpose in life to glorify God, we must have a heart to seek the wisdom of God. If there is anything that we should desire for ourselves, our children, our grandchildren and our friends, or anyone for that matter, it should be that they would have a heart to seek wisdom.
Remember Jude is writing his epistle to warn his readers of the false teachers and apostates. As he is concluding his instructions, he tells us that if we want to keep from “stumbling” we must keep our eyes on Jesus. Proverbs 4:19 tells us that “the wicked walk in darkness and do not know makes them stumble.” When a person denies God and His Word and will not believe in His Son Jesus Christ and accept Him as Lord and Savior, they have no clue what life is really all about!
But before Solomon makes this statement in Proverbs about the stumbling about of the person who does know Jesus Christ, he tells us about the instructions his father and mother gave him when he was a child: “When I was my father's son, Tender and the only one in the sight of my mother, He also taught me, and said to me: "Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live. Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you embrace her. She will place on your head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory she will deliver to you." Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, And the years of your life will be many. I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, And when you run, you will not stumble. Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; Keep her, for she is your life. (Proverbs 4:3-13)
Please read these words carefully! Wisdom is the main thing! What is the wisdom of God? The wisdom of God is to truly know Him and the only way you can know Him is through His Son Jesus Christ and the cross of Christ. Remember these verses in I Corinthians 1 - “Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God…. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God--and righteousness and sanctification and redemption-- that, as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the LORD." (1 Corinthians 1:18-31)
When you have God’s wisdom you can see life from God’s perspective and respond to every situation the way He wants you to. His wisdom will guide you to know what to say and what not to say. What to do and what not to do. Where to go and where not to go! Walking in God’s wisdom means walking with Jesus! Proverbs 8 is the wisdom chapter of the Bible! In this great chapter, wisdom is personified and of course that Person is Jesus!
The world says that God’s way through the cross and Christ is a bunch of foolishness (1 Corinthians 1). But we know that is where the Light is turned on and we meet, receive and experience the wisdom of God!
Today, it is my prayer that the Lord will give us hearts that desire to seek His wisdom in Christ and His Word!
God bless!
