Dude, the fact that you did all of that just to change the sound of the hub and not the reasoning of more engagement is, well.... TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE! 🤣 Well done lol. I rock some Bontrager Aeolus Pro 3V wheels on my Checkpoint and the hubs have 108 POE. The sound is glorious. Welcome to the club, brother!! 🤘😋
i recently bought a new wheelset with 240er hubs. My GF: why do you buy them? me: the sound. her: 800 bucks for...sound? me: yes. her: nothing else? me: well, i gain 10-15 grams to the other wheelset. her: 800 bucks, for goddamn sound? me: yes. her: i'll never get that.
Just upgraded mine on the same wheelset to the 54 , it’s well worth the upgrade . Having said that -noise wise my Hunt wheelset is louder as standard with their sprint freehub
I hate the 52 tooth sound. I see no atvantage. And the finer engagement has no effect while pedaling. I have the EXP hub ind there is no chance to change to a more quiet version on tooth rings
Nice simple explanation of this swap. I'm looking at these same wheels for my Roubaix but I had no idea how to do this upgrade, thank you for that, and cheers! On a side note, I think when I get around to doing this, I'll just go with the 36-tooth ratchet because 54 might be a little too loud for me, even though I love that sound.
Also, if you want to change or clean the bearing you will need the DT Swiss removal tool, right when he had everything our the tool goes in and you turn counter clockwise to remove, then the bearings can be removed and either replaced or cleaned.
Its 20th oct 2021. I ordered for my bike. Gotta install after i get . Waiting. I thought of gng to bike shop but looks like - ur video helping me to do myself. Will try.
Nice informative video, thanks. I’ve toying with the idea of buying a wheel set with DTSwiss but it just seems the ratchet system will eventually wear out through usage but of course changing a new set is easy.
Sounds good, worth the upgrade. If you ever feel like going back you now have video evidence of how it used to sound 😂 Very nice production on the video keep up the good work 👍
if you add less grease you will get an even louder sound. btw, it seems that your wheel is out of true or balance, did u notice? thanks for sharing the video
I’ve never trued the wheel however it went in for a service at Specialized a few weeks ago and it’s spot on. I presume it was the tyre making it look a bit wonky
@@BeardonaBike Rear Hub:Forged aluminum, 6-bolt, QRx135 this is info from my bike specs. Would you by any chance know if this will work? I wouldn't like to buy it dissemble it and find out it doesn't work. Thanks for your answers
Not necessary for a gravel bike and it actually has more drag than the 36T or 18T. Also much louder as well. I run the 54T on 3 mountain bikes but on my gravel bike I'll stick with the 36T.
O wow, I think it can be upgraded to a ratchet system like the recent 370hubs..I always thought the 350hubs came with a ratchet tooth set up..buy the ratchet tooth 18t,36t,or 54t and see if it can be upgraded from a pawl system to a ratchet system.
وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته. Question do you have to do maintenance on them frequently? Are these ratchet systems reliable? On a ride is is recommended to walk with spare ratchet. Thanks for the video.
No more maintenance than you would with the original ratchets. I’ve been running the same ratchet since upload the video no issues. I don’t carry spare ratchet on a ride not necessary.
Yes, the older c38 roval wheels originally came with the 350 hub and now the newer c38 rovals come with the 370LN hub which was recently upgraded to a ratchet system....now you can replace the stock 18 ratchet tooth with a 54ratchet like you would do in an older 350 hub..
To be honest doesn’t look worn out but it was making a very strange sound even after clean me re-grease. So presented an opportunity to switch to a 54 like you get on the s-works models/high end rovals.
Put chinese ones on my rim brake Roval C64. Do very well. The cristal sound is unique. You guys over there should know that you don't need to use the specific DT Swiss red grease which costs a finger. General industrial grade grease from major brands known for decades for the quality of their products do the job very well. And it will cost you $5 for 4 oz. Did I say bike industry is sometimes a scam...? No, I did not.
Nice clean video there mate. Will likely upgrade the 18Ts on my old 240s. Still curious about that “special grease”. I bet I know what the Doctor uses instead!
Unfortunately Sham went the wrong way and ended up doing a different route I did the full 100 with 10k climbing. Only saw Sham at the car start and finish.
Mine was silent too, but over time got louder and didn't seem to run right. I serviced it a few times but didn't feel right so made the upgrade. Runs perfect now.
@@BeardonaBike yeah, I think I’ve had mine since about May 2021 and I noticed it has gotten louder a bit. But I haven’t serviced it or anything yet, I should probably take them out and grease them for a bit. With that 54t, it sounds very loud and I’m sure others cyclists and pedestrians know you are near them.
Great video. Other than the louder sound are there any other benefits? I like my bike to be as quiet as possible but may reconsider if there any other benefits.
be careful , this is NOT an upgrade, 54 is not better than 18, it is different. Pro : better engagement, meaning less angular movement needed for the freewhell to engage Con : less durability, less power transmittable through the freewhell, more maintenance needed other difference : noise with higher frequency with 54 than 18 For "all mountain" or cobblestone during competitions, that may be an upgrade. But if you ride on tarmac, or with an electric MTB, or if you are a bikepaker, or a commuter, it is not.

Excellent tutorial. I appreciate your clear and calm explanations. I'm planning to upgrade my DT swiss ARC 1400 DICUT this week :).
Did it work out?
No, I got a EXP hub😂. Went to my local bike shop and they fixed it in 10 min for 30 euro 👌

If you can just pull the entire hub and cassette off, what keeps it attached? I’m assuming you do not need the removal tool from Dt swiss either?
So I pulled the freehub body off, you need a tool to remove the cassette from the body.
Also, if you want to change or clean the bearing you will need the DT Swiss removal tool, right when he had everything our the tool goes in and you turn counter clockwise to remove, then the bearings can be removed and either replaced or cleaned.
Whats the part number for the ratchet?
you persuaded me to do exactly the same, this sounds so much better 👌🏼.
It's so good better engagement and sounds great.

Performance and speed more better than 18t?
I have 36T on DT swiss 240 hub and it's almost quiet.
Hello,
Please, can you share the part number of 54T ratchet?
Thanks
where did you buy those ratchets? can you share the link please?
I think I purchased from a European company like Bikeinn I would expect they are readily available online

I must have done about 14,000 miles on the wheels before changing the ratchet and the old ones looked like brand new once cleaned up

It looks like it from a quick google search for Dt Swiss 370 ratchet LN kit.

What’s the biggest ratchet kit you can put on it ? I did exactly the same but I seen on eBay 60 teeth
How much the price of dtswiss hubs
you may have more luck if you post that question on Google instead of TH-cam
Awesome man, I did the same and loved it
Awesome! Thank you!
60 Quid well spent the free hub sounds like a swarm of wasps Awesome
£60 to sound like a swarm of wasps are following you. Money well spent IMO!
Have you noticed any vibrations during high speeds?
Done 40mph+ no issues. On very very long descents it can be a little annoying and find myself peddling where I can
Does this make it stronger at all?
Stronger? No idea
Hey quick question where did you got the ratchet for 60£?
Thank you
I’m not sure it was a European company somebody like Biketart.
sounds sick
Yeah it's a nice little upgrade
Great sound!!!
Thanks, can get tiresome on the longer descents which then reminds me to keep pedalling.

Maybe it is a stupid question, but will this work on older mtb from 2017 that has 2x6 gear setup?
If the hub allows for the ratchet system why not

@@vrod2144 Best getting it check by a local bike shop if you are unsure but if it’s a DT Swiss hub it could well work.

I don't believe so, Roval ceramic usually go by the name CLX.

I just got roval c38's but they came with the DT 370 hub. Its pretty quiet. Can they be upgraded as well?
Apparently so, just pull the cassette and free hub off and to take a look inside.
In the beginning, it’s so quiet that you would think something is wrong. Keep riding and it would be noisy like the one he just changed from.
