German navy ship FGS BRAUNSCHWEIG arrives in London on 16th August.
FGS BRAUNSCHWEIG is a Braunschweig class corvette of the German Navy and is the lead vessel in that class.
It was launched on 19th April 2006 and commissioned on 16th April 2008.

The German Navy did not use the Prefix "FGS" or any other Prefix in Ship Naming. This tradition was abandonded in Germany with the Breakdown of the Empire 1918/19. There are only functional descriptions for ships of similar size, tonnage and type like Frigate, Corvete or Minesweeper etc. Before the individuel ship name but no prefix.

      It's a corvette. End of.
It's no frigate whatsoever. The "F" as flag superior in her visual callsign (aka hullnumber) comes from the type designators "FS" and "FSG" used for corvettes in NATO as the flag superior "C" is reserved for cruisers.
Even though "FS" and "FSG" stand for "frigate, small" and "frigate, small, with guided missiles" it's no frigate. NATO simply couldn't use the "C" for the mentioned reason.

Equally ironic is that the vessel's name translates to the English name "Brunswick".
From Low German Brunswiek, local dialect: Bronswiek, a city in Lower Saxony, Germany, north of the Harz Mountains at the farthest navigable point of the river Oker, which connects it to the North Sea through the rivers Aller and Weser.

The Russian Zar had been a cousain. And it all started because a Serbian (back ten Austria terretory) killed his Prince from Austria. Serbians still have strong bonds with Russia. So the Russian Zar helped the Serbians and we helped our Austrian neighbours (House Habsburg who ruled Germany for hundred of years). My point. It was not our business but we had a mad Kaiser who had issues with his grandma. You could laugh about it but it did cost so many lifes and traumatised a generation and it led directly to WW2.

      @ThamesShips  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

The Thames Tunnel Mills used to be 19th-century mill buildings and warehouses. They were in use until the early 1960s and were then left and began to decay. Planning permission was obtained to turn them into flats and this was completed in 1983.
The first tug is owned by a company called Cory which is a waste management company. The barges are filled with non recyclable household waste and are towed down the river to a place called Belvedere. Cory have an incinerator plant there where the waste is burned and the steam produced is used to generate electricity for local houses. Cory have a number of these tugs that tow the waste down the river and they appear in a few of the videos.
I am not sure about the second tug / barge but I think it will probably be used to carry aggregate.

In addition to the other reply, it is common for navy ships to visit other countries. Earlier in the week that "Braunschweig" visited London, the Indian Navy ship INS TABAR also visited. Such visits promote goodwill between the countries.
When in London, the some of the crew of the Indian ship hosted members of the Indian community and the ship's band was used to entertain at local events.
There was also a meeting at the High Commission of India in London and various dignitaries and diplomats.
There was also a cricket match between the Indian and UK armed forces and some of the crew visited a veteran's hospital.
Although I am not sure about the exact events that the crew of "Braunschweig" took part in during their visit, it is likely to be similar to the events for the Indian ship though obviously involving the German community in London.

Even today, Lower Saxony is still considered a 'horse country'.
The British cavalry wasn't particularly outstanding either.
There is a biography of a Friedrich Lindau from Hamelin who fought as a member of the 2nd Light Battalion of the KGL in Spain and Waterloo and was one of the 42 survivors of La Haye Sainte.
He described quite clearly how British and Hanoverian cavalrymen differed in the Spanish campaign.
After a mission, the British left their horses to their own devices, sometimes even playing them away at the gaming table, while the Hanoverians took care of their horses first and then themselves. It was a completely different bond between rider and horse, and only because of that It was possible that the horses trusted their riders so blindly that the Hanoverians of the KGL managed to completely destroy 3 of 4 French squares in a battalion because the horses were not deterred from a frontal attack by the French bayonets.
This was such an incredible achievement that all KGL officers were subsequently awarded a British officer's pension for life, and the KGL, previously seen as better auxiliary troops, was given almost elite status.
(It was not without reason that Wellington had the important La Haye Sainte estate in the center of Waterloo defended from the front by the 2nd Light Battalion KGL)
