  • Creating Natural Style Aquariums | Using Botanicals in Aquarium - MR BRIGHTFRYED
In this video I'd like to talk about a different side of the fish keeping hobby and one that should be at the forefront but unfortunately is not. In nature our fish live in very different environments to the ones we keep in our aquariums and in my view more needs to be discussed about this matter. Having fish kept in pristine water and heavily vibrant plants is great and some are complete works of art BUT this is not a natural environment for these animals. With the use of bio degradable products such as driftwood and botanicals we can create worlds that appear more to the natural environments in the wild. Why do this? Well it's proven to show massive health benefits and our animals show natural behaviours as they would it the wild by using botanicals. So why wouldn't we? I think it's been perceived for too long that we need to keep aquariums in a certain way but more exposure and education needs to be done to promote this way of fish keeping so hopefully this video can give you a small glimpse of what I mean by creating natural style aquariums using botanicals.

Love tannin filled tanks . Will the organic material lower my ph ? Its currently 7.6 and i eant it down too 6.6 or 6.8 . I keep Apistos that im trying too breed. Thank you.

Yes, adding organic material like leaf litter can help lower your pH levels over time. Just be mindful of the effects on the water if adding too much too soon. It all depends on how hard the water is in the area but yes it will help to reduce PH. It's great to hear you're creating a tannin-filled environment for your Apistos! Best of luck with the breeding!

Great video! It was hard to pay attention with those corys in the background though. I can never keep my eyes off those little guys, too damn cute.

Great video mate 🙌🏼 totally agree with trying to mimic the natural environments, To enhance the livestock’s life in a more natural setting.
Also, nice t-shirt and very weak beard!

Thank you, definitely my favourite video to date. Such an important topic we need to be talking about. These our animals we keep and we should want them to thrive not just survive. Cheers, glad you like the tshirt and beard 🧔

Great informative video once again James. Totally agree with the beneficial aspects of adding botanicals to the underwater ecosystem which encourages natural behaviour. Adding Indian almond leaves usually results in a lower pH, especially good for fish from the Amazon such as tetra and some cichlids. Looking forward to seeing more 👍
