  • My old multimeters were letting me down so I did some quick googling and picked out this cheapoish one. Here are my first thoughts.

I have had this meter for 2½ years and it works fine, is as accurate as my old Fluke 75 and much cheaper , only cost £13:99 (on offer) I have no problem with the leads and the meter is accurate.

Excellent! That's good to hear. I'm really loving it so far.

Ive had one of these meters for three+ years, and its still accurate and reliable - it has a LOT of reasonable accuracy and functionality for such a low price - youre expecting WAY too much for twenty bucks these have had good reviews for a long time and sell very well. Cheap meters often have an unseen coating left by the plating process the chinese dont clean off, try cleaning the metal tips with steel wool and alcohol this often makes a big difference - if not you were just unlucky enough to get a defective pair of leads, dont forget youre buying crap from china - the leads on my 132A work fine.

Thanks for that. I've got a cheap "RS Pro" multimedia (I don't think any actual 'pro' is touching RS Pro products with a barge pole) and it's fine, but it also doesn't show battery low and will do that weird voltage reading thing, Ive panicked many times thinking my delicate projects were getting fried with 20V from an erratic PSU when it was just the meter, so glad to see I'm not the only one! Nice honest review, this looks like a 'itll do' MM, I do like that it's auto ranging, tho needs better leads, and has a capacitance meter. Anyway I found that quite interesting, cheers!

Cheers Chris! I just want one that works as expected. No fancy bells and whistles. If this can let me know the battery is on its way out I'll be happy with that!

Bin the batteries straight away they leak as you suggested that they might.

Maybe get it back to Amazon and check on UNI-T stuff. They are decent quality and not too expensive either (well a couple of quids more but that is OK)..
I am using a 210E, which has a clamp ammeter that comes in handy sometimes And it can be hacked! Does everything you need. They ship from Europe (no brexit pun intended) or probably Amazon.

My next Multimeter will be a Uni-t model, I was looking at the ones that can output to a pc as it might be good for on screen display in videos.

@@leesmithsworkshop beware! The ones with serial output don't switch off automatically and drain the batteries. You have to switch them off manually. Guess how I know.... ;)

I'm going to stick with this one. With the better leads it works quite well
