Good luck flying these in a near-peer confrontation. The USAF cannot force package everything. That's why you guys aimed for a new stealth MRF, to give your pilots a better ❤chance at surviving and getting the job done in a contested environment
When I was a kid the A-10's used to fly over my gran's house in Lincolnshire to the bombing range. They have such a unique engine sound and I knew what type of aircraft they was before even seeing them! Very fond memories of such an awesome and iconic aircraft. 😁👍
That made my memories flood back! Mine was a singular air show performance of 4 - A-10's flying an impressive routine, of which I've yet to see another team of A-10's fly. And their engine's do have an unmistakable sound that brings me back to that routine from many years ago!
I've always loved the overall appearance of the A10 and without a doubt, in my opinion, it's the meanest looking ground support Aircraft, that's ever been flown.
Yes, it's referred to as " ugly", maybe because it does not have a pointy nose. I love how it was described as a Big gun that has a plane attached to it
Ju 87 was a dive bomber. On the Russian front they carried a cannon pod under each wing. Initially 20mm. Later 37mm. This significantly affected the already slow performance 150mph maximum.
AS a veteran knowing these aircraft have my back when the s**t goes down is an amazing thing. I cannot tell you just how many times they saved my ass, but the sound of that gun announcing their arrival is the most welcome sound you will ever hear. I was told by an old salt Gunny that is you hear the sound of that rotary cannon you are not the target, it does make sense because by the time the sound reaches you, you are meeting God.
My uncle piloted the F4 phantom in Vietnam when I was around 10 years old, I was in awe, these warthogs are a crucial asset for troops on the ground and many other wartime scenarios, it's a must have for us. God bless America🇺🇸
UGLY?! i live near selfridge AFB in Michigan ...ive seen dozens of em fly over my house ( or maybe a few many different times ) ...i think its much better looking than alot of other jets ...
There are those who say the A-10 is past it's prime, an out dated attack aircraft whose job can be easily replaced by much more technologically superior weapons and delivery platforms...if that is true and the Air Force gets rid of the A-10, I'll take as many as they want to replace.
Not out dated, as it's not impossible to bring it up to date with newer avionics, wing spars, wings, and better engines (a long running caveat Hog Drivers reputedly have) With the above, it can get the ability to be a low-level ground attack aircraft, able to receive data from other sensors than their own. In my opinion, a low level A-10 optimized for low-level maritime strike would be a great addition to the Philippine Navy Aviation Wing.
The early development seen the integration of computers to pulse stalk the engines to not intake exhaust and heat during firing, the veritable equated Einstein brain joxkyong that went into the platforms impressive to say the least.
The commentary says A-10 has the biggest gun ever fitted into an aircraft. Maybe they are ignoring the 57mm six pounder with Mohlins auto loader fitted into DH Mosquito during WW2. The Tsetse.
Troops on the ground LOVE that “slow, ugly aircraft !” Seeing a Warthog for forward troops in trouble, is like seeing your big brother when the class bully tried to pick on you!
I talked to a retired crew chief who had worked on the F4 and F15 crews and finished his career on the A-10 crew who told me they are the easiest to work on and cheapest to maintain.
If Ukraine had 2 Squadrons of them they would have libarate their country in 4 weeks! This isnt an ugly Hog this is a Wonderful airplane and hope the USAirforce will keep it in its inventory for a longer period that is planed!
As a young kid, I can still remember when they were testing the A-10 at the Eglin AFB in Florida. Mid 1970s. The plane flew by and quickly did a 180, came right back at us with ease. My brother and I were like, what was that? LOL. 6 years later my brother was in the Air Force and put his name on the list of potential A-10 pilots. Not sure what happened, I think he turned a certain age before the deadline or something, but he didn't get selected. He has moaned and groaned about it to this day. I live in Tucson now and still get to see them fly overhead most days. Love the sound they still make, just love this aircraft.
What he said about the Military sometimes choosing an aircraft not because it's the best choice in terms of design, but because they have more faith the company building it to be able to bring the program to successful conclusion and supply the numbers needed is definitely not new. That has come up many times throughout history. For example, the B-25 was initially shunned by the USAAF in favor of the B-26 design, but then it turned out the company producing the B-26 could not produce them fast enough to supply wartime needs, and so a contract was also issued to build B-25s to fill the numbers.
Calling all the other jets from the f-84 on warthogs is a big misnomer....we all know there was only one Warthog.....the A-10 from 70s on....get your facts correct
Its ruggwd and lasting. Can use so many ordinances in 1 heavy payload and have a very deadly but not precise front gun. Honty its a good workhorse and is best when in a small group. But they need Fighter escort to keep the bogeys off the Hog's arse. Its a great addition to a complex air force system but not the best overall magical poney. Fat Amy has some crazy efficiency in the same role, but can get in and out fast, can be efficient in a A2A combat and is very stealthy at low altitude. But nothing matches the massive payload of the A-10 .
Paused after survival gear segment. You left off a most important survival tool; M1911 semiautomatic pistol in .45 ACP, a proven pistol cartridge. Developed as a result of failure of .38 Colt revolvers against Moros during the Philippine insurrection. They forgot these lessons when they adopted the M9 and .355 Parabellum cartridge. (I am AMERICAN in character as well as nationality and am actively purging Metricrap from my use of the language. Suggest our armed forces Americanize in the same manner.) Because of limited supply of ammo, you need something that do the job with one good hit (.45 ACP) than hit enemy several times with .355 Parabellum, the reason .355 Parabellum pistols need 15 round magazines. Don't give me the horse doodoo about M1911 is inaccurate. After I read an account of someone with a Mattelamatic getting six hits on an E silhouette target with sixty cartridges, I set up an E silhouette at 100 yards. I engaged that target at 100 yards with an M1911 pistol and sixty cartridges and got sixty kill zone hits. I am an Army veteran and served with a real battle rifle, the M1 Garand, and the M1911 pistol.😅

Ukraine should have negotiated their nukes for a moder air superiority including fighters , SAM and other modern missle defense units ... or kept them !
Very first sentence in this video is a lie. "During the Gulf War, an aircraft previously unwanted become the most valuable member of the American arsenal." What a bunch of ****. Who made this film, the manufacturer?
@@davidgraham4807 Say what same thing, that the B-52, C-130, and T-38 were unwanted? They were all excellent designs that have never been unwanted. All remain valuable, and the latter two have not even had to adapt their primary roles to remain relevant. The A-10 is the opposite; it was overvalued for many years, and is now unwanted due to changing needs.

True / False. The gun was built first and plane was built around it. It is more efficient to replace complete gun rather than reload.
The A-10 is not ugly. Its hot !!!
Would have love to be American just to get to fly one!!!!
Thats the best air to ground airplane ever produced.

What about the AC 130 with its M137 105 mm cannon . If I recall correctly, we ( USA ) had a plane with a 75 mm cannon on board during WW2 .
P47 “simply stands alone” - great plane, but, hello, P51. Contrary to claim, P51 was also slightly faster.
