But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
The problem with getting older is that it takes a lot to be impressed. This sure is an exception as this is workmanship of the highest level. Excellent job to say the very least.
as a guy who does alittle woodworking in the shed, i am amazed at this project. Those stairs came out awesome, great job. Watching this build video, has taught me a thing or two, so thank you Joey
Fantastic job Joey, I"m so glad to see you here on youtube again and you're still up and running during this pandemic. Best to you and your family. Take care.
Joey lives in NZ where there are lot's of sensible people. Pandemic has been eliminated there so everything is back to normal. Wishing you all the best wherever you are
Atothezeezee there is a video on TH-cam from an English craftsman well it's actually in around ten parts where he calculates, draws out and then constructs on site a sweeping curved staircase and it is well worth watching. His is actually small than this as it's only one section but it does nearly a full turn back on itself and has closed stringers where oak treads and risers are routed in to the strings which along with some other quirks adds a lot more to the project in terms of volume of work and time taken.(I don't say that trying to take any of the respect due for the craftsmanship shown in this video but just to give you a gist of the video.) the English guy--tony constructs a similar stud work cage as the one seen in this video and he explains every single step in a way that leaves you fully understanding how to do one yourself. If you search- build with A&E you will find the videos they are well worth watching!
King post timber works you made a lovely job of these stairs,I watched a similar video from the English Channel"build with A&E" where he built a slightly similar staircase but with some different quirks such as oak treads routed in to curved closed stringers. Between yours and his videos I have learnt one heck of a lot about building curved staircases this week. Thank you for documenting your craftsmanship sir.
as a joiner in wellington and having made curved stairs before your craftmanship is first class ex video this was my first intro to your channel well done
Wow! This is the type of mind bendingly awkward, highly complex projects that I think would be a bit too scary for many fairly proficient woodworkers to even consider taking on. Not much margin for any miscalculations, mistakes or slip ups. Really amazing, phenomenal work!!
Hi Joey! I have built close to 100 free standing stairs like this one here in Southern California. My company was named FREE STANDING STAIR. After 2008 recession I chose to change careers. It is cool to see you figure out the brackets for the top of stairs. I have made many brackets out of 1/4" steel with a gusset added for straight. I used a 9" paint roller to apply the paint and worked out of 5 gallon buckets. Nice work and nice to see someone else tackle this type of project. It is a stressful job but pays well.
Awesome does not really begin to approach the finished product - would LOVE to see the hand rails that you fashioned in the gaps between and how you blended them into the existing stairs. Major Kudos to you and your team !!
Geeeez, what a mess that could have been! I'm sure glad someone knew what they were doing. It made my head hurt just thinking about all the angles and curves, but looks like you pulled it off. Congrats Joey, another job well done
Your Dad knows his way around the job site like a professional. I'm sure you learned a lot from him over the years. Looks great. Thanks for sharing your talents and thoughts.
Very nice work. Way to stay on for the 5 days and stay true to your word as well. Most contractors would delay everyone else and still screw up the job and here you finished it and it looks wonderful. I’ll bet you guys felt good standing back and seeing it done.
> architecturally speaking i sculpted a pair of metal ribbons for a 12' diameter silo by slip roll forming pieces of 1/8" plate (to a predetermined pattern arc ea.) 3 layers thick, the center layer left proud so a 3/8" piece of cold rolled could be continuously fastened as a radius top edge, left the square blanks as is the bottom so the designer/carpenter's would have some sort of plumb/ level/ square reference to 'grade' and finished the ground smooth / puttied surfaces in red oxide primer which took a nice sheen with a couple coats of wax, mimicked the 'blood red barn theme' color scheme i was after. tread where 4" cherry with a couple full thread rods dadoed in left also proud the inner ribbon to fasten a handrail similar to the one your featuring. everything was was made off site and assembled by a couple kids in less than one day once the parts were delivered to the worksite.
Beautifully done Joey. Really interesting watching the planning and production process that you went through. I've rebuilt a couple of large stairs but curved ones like that are way above my skill level.
What a fantastic job, you are a brave man taking on something like that ! You should be very proud of yourself and your crew, thank you for putting this video together ! Take a nice rest and on to the next project Stay well and safe! Blessings to you and your family!
What a absolutely superb video and the craftsmanship is on another level you truly are a master woodworker joey and thank you for sharing ive been a carpenter for nearly 24years now and im still learning things from watching videos like yours so thank you . All the very best and stay safe from darrall in the UK 🇬🇧 👍
kinda dont understand someone having you build a staircase and not having you finish it out to the walls and between the rails but awesome job. I really like the frame you used to form the curves.
Great effort Joey. Curves are never easy especially something as complex as this. Just about to install a flight of stairs myself (not quite as complicated as yours) so excellent timing.
To the 20 people down voting this beautiful workmanship: The fact you even down voted STILL feeds the algorithm and helps his channel. So, your unstable hatred actually helps him. SMH at the level of hate toward the effort, skill and workmanship. Jealousy is an ugly and self generated emotion. What a waste of energy.
Wow that is truly impressive. The execution and finish is below expectations, master craftsmanship. Long time subscriber of your channel and you keep on improving and delivering. Well done.
What a massive commission with excellent work resulting in an elegantly majestic staircase. How prepared are you for everyone knocking on your door wanting their own spiral staircase? Nice to have your Dad on the job, so many problems to solve at every step along the way. Thanks for the video and updates on IG. Cheers, David
What an awesome project Joey, you have come along way since your scared to death begining of Covid video when you didnt know if your business would survive. I am so happy for you and think you are one great dude. Cheers, keep on truckin. Man I enjoyed watching this video..... Eveytime I saw you drill a hole, I was like........ yikes! so much work to possibly jack up.......
Amazing job, just the math alone would drive me crazy 😜. Great to see your dad and you working side by side. Incredible craftsmanship as always. Take Care
Awesome, awesome . . . it's had to figure which was the most difficult, the design, build or instulation . . . one wicket undertaking. Cheers, and Merry Christmas.
Hey guys would love to see more detail on how you finished off the top caps on the handrail? Butt joints and glued? Rounding over the edge etc?blending the joints?
Beautiful work, not something I am ever likely to try but inspiring to see nevertheless. Some people find straight stairs challenging, we can show them this if they start complaining too much...
Hi Joey..this was awesome!!! I was just wondering how long did it take you to build the stairs.. that was an amazing project. Thanks for sharing it to us folks in Alabama, US
Great work! You have a good team. I could not tell from the pictures just how the stud frame was attached to the floor, please explain that aspect. Thanks, JIM

Those stairways are just gorgeous. They will easily last the life of the house and are in themselves a work of art. Congrats!
Well said. 2nded
The problem with getting older is that it takes a lot to be impressed. This sure is an exception as this is workmanship of the highest level.
Excellent job to say the very least.
Absolutely fantastic craftsmanship. Thank you for taking the time to film, edit, and share.
as a guy who does alittle woodworking in the shed, i am amazed at this project. Those stairs came out awesome, great job.
Watching this build video, has taught me a thing or two, so thank you Joey
your work is always a master class but this is a demonstration of how logistically complicated your craft can be. you make it look easy! bravo!
Building helix shaped staircases is a lot of complicated work. Well done!
Wow! An amazing piece of work! I can't imagine managing a job of this complexity and being able to sleep at night...
That is insane amount of extremely precise work you've done here guys! Absolutely beautiful! I'm glad that you back in business 👍
The marriage of wood and steel can be quite beautiful.
These stairs are a great example.
Good job👍
I hope all those lovely treads get covered while the drywall and paint crews are doing their thing. Marvelous looking set of stairs.
Yes I made mdf tread covers but who knows if the main contractor will actually cover all the handrails etc
Just watched this amazing build! I think I held my breath the whole time - haha. Great job!!
Fantastic job Joey,
I"m so glad to see you here on youtube again and you're still up and running during this pandemic. Best to you and your family. Take care.

That stud mould/template...the unsung hero of this project. We've got a lot to cover off in the podcast...so many questions!!!
For sure. I would love to see a video explanation of how you mapped the staircase in space.

Thanks

Thoroughly enjoyed this build
Lots of interesting applications of metal to assemble stair parts
Good show mates
Cheers
This is amazing. Fantastic work! These stairs must have cost a fortune.
That is so beautiful and complicated! Absolutely loved seeing it come together!
I have been asked to do a curved staircase and watching you and yours was a great help 👍🏾
as a joiner in wellington and having made curved stairs before your craftmanship is first class ex video this was my first intro to your channel well done
Those are some beautifull and solid looking stairs you build there!
While complex in construction the stairs are simple in design, just beautiful. Excellent vid!

Cheers, yes I have been asked to do others but so far declined the opportunity as it's so full on
I have watched this build at least 3 times, and I still find it amazing every time
The video was not disjointed at all, easy to follow! Great work, I love the use of jigs for everything.
Excellent work and craftsmanship!!!!
Awesome work. Congratulations on quality craftsmanship.
"Hello, I'm Joey". Such an unassuming entry for such amazing content. Now that's a custom job.
I think it flowed pretty well. Another amazing job from an amazing shop. Bravo.
Looks fantastic, i imagine you don't make stairs everyday but this looks absolutely flawless. congrats joey!
Awesome does not really begin to approach the finished product - would LOVE to see the hand rails that you fashioned in the gaps between and how you blended them into the existing stairs.
Major Kudos to you and your team !!
Holy cow! Totally amazing. Fanboy from Arizona, USA. Keep up the great work Joey.

Nice work fella's, it was probably kinda nice to have your father onboard also.
Geeeez, what a mess that could have been! I'm sure glad someone knew what they were doing. It made my head hurt just thinking about all the angles and curves, but looks like you pulled it off. Congrats Joey, another job well done

I've built plenty of curved walls in the past, fun and easy to do but never curved steps. They turned out amazing great job sir !!
Beautifully done Joey. Really interesting watching the planning and production process that you went through. I've rebuilt a couple of large stairs but curved ones like that are way above my skill level.

I don't actually know how long it took as there were several delays with covid and the main contractor. At least 8 weeks. Thanks
Great work! You have a good team.
I could not tell from the pictures just how the stud frame was attached to the floor, please explain that aspect.
Thanks, JIM
Wow, so impressive! Regular carpenter here, in awe.
