its great how a kinda sad song lyrically (talking about how people can never truly be happy because they are always looking for more) can be played with so jubilantly and be so fun. really great song (and the message fits perfectly with the show)
That all boiled down to Michael Pitt being horrible to work with. It's the same reason that he only lasted one season on Hannibal. My least fovorite thing with the series was how it ended. The ending with Tommy was poorly thought out and even more poorly written. Seasons 1 & 2 were amazing.
You ever just go looking for covers of a song after taking interest in the original thanks to something that uses samples from it? You probably know exactly what I'm talking about if you're reading this today.
I caught season 3 and currently 4 so I went back to watch the first two seasons and the music is incredible. This song in particular stood out to me , just a good listen with a good message.
Incredible lyric sheet. Irv B. really knocked it out of the park with this. I love this rendition except for the shortened b-section that leads the song on out...they should have just played the b in its entirety. Side note: the way Kathy Brier sings "get" during the first chorus has a most amazing timbre to it with a nice natural vibrato. 1:07
@@gunnarthefeisty Found out this is Irving Berlin and I saw a clip of Marilyn Monroe singing this but for some reason I can't find which of her films that was in. Can you assist?

While I would agree, the version used for the game is in the public domain. Even though this is a cover of a public domain work, the creator of the game may had to go through certain channels to get the rights for remixing it into the game. Sure, short snippets were used, but I don't think the team wanted to take any chances.
Also, I definitely prefer the sound of Fltecher Henderson sized groups like Vince's group over the big band and Dixieland sized groups, especially when they play some of the Dixieland charts Vince has
I recommend reading the book “Boardwalk Empire” about the real Enoch Johnson, who ran politics in Atlantic City for a decade. He got in trouble with the law because he and William Randolph Hearst we’re after the same show girl! He ended up dying of old age.
Maybe 103 years later, this version of the song will also get used in a video game about pizza...
With a anxious super sonic Italian middle aged man against a cartoony bipedal pizza man..
Its not this version though lol

I think that's what jazz is all about. It's sort of the antithesis of the blues while simultaneously sharing a lot of common ground at their core.
yeah it does have a bit of a bittersweet message
Perhaps Boardwalk Empire was the best series ever on TV. The music was carefully chosen and wonderful.
