- This film was not created by me. It was created by Wah Ming Chang, who is known for his work on the original Star Trek, his creation of the titular Time Machine from the 1960 film, and his work on the 70s television show Land of the Lost. I sourced it from a 16mm copy.

Good old mum
Though I 100% root for accurate dinosaurs- theres always something so charming about seeing these suto-mammalian lizards roaming around in all of their vintage, stop motion glory
While I usually support accurate dinosaurs with all my heart, I do love me some good ol' fashioned retrosaurs.
tigris115
Same
tigris115 great nickname Retrosaur is perfect
I am like you but I admit I love the old dinosaurs 🦖 because reminds me of childhood
same here
I agree
0:13 i love how the allosaurus waves it’s hands like if it’s like “what a beautiful day”
Who didn’t
I love documentaries like this. Some of the theories are dated. But it still has value cause it shows how far we have come in paleontology. It also shows something that has been forgotten in recent years. Imagination.
Right always making up stories and then changing them because they were wrong in the first place.
True
Maybe the fact it's outdated is why they're so fun to watch!
@@thecrossoverperson7455 could be!
Like with the Lost World movie from 1925?
I had this on VHS when I was a kid, it also included the one about early mammals. I still love watching them every now and then, the claymation is just delightful.
I do REALLY love the whipping motion of their tail, it’s so satisfying for some reason.
All hail the retrosaurus!
@Evil Dead he didn't do anything wrong!

The Allosaurus they used in the opening looks similar to the one from Ray Harryhausen's One Million Years B.C.
Actually, that Allosaurus was taken from another documentary, Mark D. Wolf's Age of Mammals.
The animation was choreographed, in some aspects, by Wah Chang, who also built the original miniature of one of sci-fi cinema's most memorable movie props: The Time Machine.
Freaking love that movie
7:16-7:44
If anyone's curious, the music during the volcanic eruption is called
"Power of Darkness" from the album: *"Sleight of Mind"* by David Vorhaus.
It was also heard in the workprint version of *"GRIZZLY II: The Predator"*
and a couple of the deleted scenes in *"SUPERMAN IV: The Quest For Peace".*
3:38-5:20
Aztec Gold (A) by Nick Glennie-Smith.
What’s the soundtrack when the t Rex fights the styracosaurus
I use to have this on VHS when i was a kid in the early 90's. The animation and the music brings back memories.
the world just seem's dull with no dinosaurs in it...
Good thing there's more living species of dinosaurs than there are mammals, then.
Malyssa Trouble ain’t the same bruh
There's no apostrophe in the word "seems"
Ahem, technically birds are a descendant of the dinosaurs...just saying
@@axiorsomethin130 i know, but before scientists didnt know better so they thought they were reptiles
Right at the beginning, the dinosuar at 16 secs he's all "whooooah..?" Lmao cracks me up. 😆
The same animator worked on Land Of The Lost. Great stuff.
Wah Chang animated Dinosaurus film too in 1960 for producer Jack H Harris
The T-Rex was Grumpy from Land of the Lost. :)
@@ArsNovaEntertainment Came here to say this, I recognized him right away!
I first saw this documentary when I was three years old, and I INSTANTLY fell in love with Dinosaurs because of it!
The Allosaurus in the beginning, the sound effects of it eating sounded hilarious lol was waiting for a big ass burp before the next scene
Was it a allosaurus?
@@ruffruggednraw it is, a scene from Mark D. Wolf's "Age of Mammals". You can find it here in TH-cam.
They seem awfully distracted by that volcano. FOCUS, MAN! You've got a fight here!
TimSPC When a Volcano is bond t erupt, Dinosaurs KNOW something bad is gonna happen.
This was part of my childhood. Unfortunately I had lost the tape that it was on. Thank you for posting this so I can see it again!!!
I also like seeing how dinos have changed in the movies. From The Lost World (1925) to Jurassic Park (1993) and Walking with Dinosaurs (1999).
Dont forget... Phil Tippett's "Prehistoric Beast" 10 minute movie! Love it!
What about *The Land Before Time?*
When Dinosaurs roamed America
Dinosaur Revolution
Planet Dinosaur
Amazing dinoworld
I had this on VHS as a kid as well. Thank you for bringing another part of my childhood back.
when dinos dragged their tails
good stuff still
I know these dinosaurs are inaccurate, but I love this for the art. Stop motion isn't easy, and the mood of this short is really relaxing.
Back when bipedal dinosaurs were depicted with the outdated "living tripod" posture
The t.rex looks like grumpy from land of the lost TV show
Most of the models in this were actually the ones used in land of the lost
That’s because it IS Grumpy! The T-Rex model was built for this film and then used for “Land of the Lost”.
These dinos were how they were depicted in the good old days.
sew1835 mhm
sew1835 So inaccurate?
KTHEMASTER very inaccurate most of these should have had feathers
it's a well done documentary for it's time
it's curious how people still mistaking pterosaurs with dinos when they're told to be different from a while ago
aleix1203 IKR
You mean Petree right?
Archosaurs that went extinct must have been dinosaurs.
@@peterdrieen6852 if it's prehistoric, it's a dinosaur, that's them rules
@@GandalfTheTsaagan literally pterosaurus and mosasaurus are not dinosaurs ok for example their's some prehistoric mammal like glyotodon, smiladon ,woolly mammoth, woolly rhinoceros are those dinosaurs no those looks nothing like dinosaurs so no if some thing is prehistoric it isn't a dinosaur
Props to these guys for using a different ceratopsian to fight the T-rex rather than the usual Triceratops this time around. And it's a Styracosaurus too, my favorite of these horned dinosaurs!
4:45-4:50:
Narrator: Other duckbilled dinosaurs like Corythosaurus, Parasaurolophus, and Tsintaosaurus had odd looking crests decorating their heads.
Yeah
im 35 years old, I saw this when I was about 4 years old and I never forgot that epic music and scary fight between the t rex and styracosaurus!! Thank you for uploading this, I thought I would never find it again.
I just turned 35 on March 25th 2024.
I remember seeing this on VHS which also had The Age of Mammals included
I remember a movie i've watch that when i was a child.
it's been 93 years to watch a dinosaur move i can hardly remember.
Oh man, I had this on VHS when I was a kid! I must have watched it 100 times! I haven't seen it since, yet watching it now I remember it so vividly, especially the music.
Wasn't there another part to this, a part about mammals? I'm pretty sure there was, but the only part I remember is a sabre tooth tiger jumping on the back of some big sloth looking thing.
Did you ever find it?
Arkhon Obrimos Nope. =(
Word. I remember my Grandpa bough the tape for me. Speaking of which, the second bit with the mammals is on youtube.
What is it called? I can't find it.

Even though I'm 22, I still love to watch stuff like this. When I was younger I used to watch old episodes of Gumby and this video reminds me of it so much.
From something from the 60's this do be some *smooth* stop motion
I remember this, I used to watch it all the time.

Thanks for sharing! The original film dates back to 1970. This version, as stated in the beginning of the film, is the 1986 revised version.
6:55 Ha ha ha! The Styracosaurus stabbed the T. Rex in the bellybutton!
Wait, he's a reptile; he doesn't have a bellybutton. Or, well... now he does.
And why'd they say T. Rex was 50 feet long? The biggest skeleton is 42 feet long.
Tello 64
New T Rex fossils are speculated to be 50
41, actually.
HoopsAndDinoMan the dinosaurs are birds
I think he was a bit too short to make a bellybutton...
That's his junk that he just got ganked in.

Bruh this video is from 11 years ago
@@fragilis6238 we already knew dinosaurs were feathered and stuff 11 years ago, but this documentary was made in the 1960-70s
As "outdated " as it may be, at least they aren't depicted using the "decorated live reptile " technique of former times AKA "slurposaurs".
HOLY SHIT. i had this VHS when i was a kid in the early 90s. this was a spicy one.
I loved this movie so much as a child.
My gosh it's been so many years since I've seen this documentary, I'm so glad I'm finding bits and pieces of my childhood on TH-cam
I remember this video well. I saw it with my dad as an actual film at the Museum of Natural History of Cincinnati. It was a feature at an exhibit of art celebrating Charles R. Knight. I also watched "Land of the Lost" as a kid, so I must have really enjoyed seeing the dinos take another job! 😄
6:53 my god that poor tyrannosaurus.... True pain straight through the taint
Amazing, I've been on a dinosaur trip for like 2 days. I prefer the older movies cause it looks more raw.
The flying reptile scene in the background
Roasted
Omg, I can't believe I found this. My brother and I watched this when we were like 8-9 years old.
"T rex grew to be 50 feet long" damn son whered you find this?
;-;
The last third of the tail wasn’t known back then, so they based their reconstructions on Allosaurus which had a proportionally longer tail.
I had a VHS of this when I was about 6 or 7 years old, man this takes me back, thanks for the upload.
I had a vhs with this on it as a kid around 1992 and I watched it so many times I practically knew it by heart, even though I knew it was hilariously dated even then. It's amazing how far we've come from something like this to Walking With Dinosaurs, and from that to Prehistoric Planet.
I LITERALLY just watched this Mr Know it Owl VHS from when I was a kid, it still works, and it's still awesome. Long live Dinosaurs.
Brontosaurus is relatively peaceful.
Yeah, until you piss it off and it sends you flying lol
The reason that I'm watching this is to think about how far we have come with our dinosaur depictions.
Saw this ages ago as a kid on a video called Know-It-Owls.
When it comes to these old dinosaurs I always enjoy watching them
I was half expecting to see Davey Hanson and his dog Goliath make an appearance
gotta love how the old fashioned dinosaurs had such arm movment
Holy shit, I watched this so many times as a kid on VHS. God this brings back memories.
Bro, they evolved INTO birds. -_-
I haven't seen this since I was a kid when I used to have it on vhs! Thanks for the nostalgia trip!
Omg! Yes! I had this tape when I was a kid and have been trying to find this ish! Lol thanks
I used to have this tape on vhs. Loved this documentary
Thank you for sharing this with us! I used to have a really old View-Master with cassette and this reminded me of it a lot. Ah sweet childhood memories.
I keep waiting for a dog to pop up and say "God wouldn't like that Davey."
i have the edition with this, and the fossil dinosaur segment
that rex took it right in the nards!
Like the scene from Cavemen!
Rex has nards
Thanks for posting this. Holy shit I thought I was the only one who had the vhs tape. I'm 32 now... all my life the music with the stegosaurus always stuck with me. Damn what a blast. Can't belive it. Ty!
Always loved the scene with the Stegosaurus on the hillside so tranquil and nostalgic.. Dino stuff like this used to come on T.V. When I was a kid and played once in a while at school…
Oh wow, I remember this from when I was a little kid. I thank you very much for posting it up here.
I want every puppet in this flick so badly.
I wished if this retro Dinosaur movie was remade
The fact this video is 13 years old is amazing. Like it’s still going.
Just brilliant!
I'm digging that electronic background music.

Sweet. That wide skull is a real indicator of brain size. T rex must've been about as smart as, say, Buster Keaton. But electing to take a Styracosaurus to the belly shows bad judgement. I would've taken it to Shoney's, instead.
