    THANK YOU!! This video helped solve a problem that has been plaguing me for ages. Using my first ever sewing machine, a vintage Singer which I immediately converted to hand crank, but was always disappointed because mine seemed unable to handle thick layers like the machines were praised for. Whenever I hit a thick spot, the wheel would just slide against the machine without turning the wheel. Turns out I put that little washer inside the wheel on backwards. With that corrected, it’s the beast of legend. 😼

    I got one of these on Ebay, for Christmas, from my daughter. I really like it! It was easy to put onto my Featherweight, and it works fine. It does take a fair amount of turning to sew, but it's the only one I know of that allows you to go back and forth, between electricity and hand crank,without any trouble. It's very handy for precision sewing.

    Awesome!!!! Now I can crack out my old electric! The belt keeps on breaking, and we've taken it a billion times to get a new one, but they just rip, so having an alternative that doesn't involve a stupid belt is amazing!

    Learn something new every day. I remember using a hand crank machine when I was young. Don't know where but, nice to know that it can be modified... Who knows when we'll need it? Delightful video.

    I have 2 of these. One as a back up & one for my Singer Featherweight that I use for my quilt guild & when traveling....they work great. No issues, no problems. I have left it on while using it with electric. Again, no problems. If the generator goes out on my RV or the Zombie Apocalypse occurs? I'm ready.

    This is awesome... one more quick question: do you need to take the hand crank off to pack it into the box? I’m assuming so but just wanted to double check if you happen to know off hand.

    I have a nice Singer 201-2 but would like the capability to do this. Will this kit work on a 201-2?

    I have just attached one of these to a Singer 128 'Godzilla' as a complete hand crank conversion. I am unable to loosen the clutch so as to wind a bobbin/stop needle from going up/down without the whole thing coming off...as both parts would now be moving in the same direction. Is this the bit of adjusting that little screw?
    Thank you...!

It's marked for Featherweighs, but it also works for 99 and 99K. www.ebay.com/itm/SINGER-sewing-machine-Model-221-222-Featherweight-Hand-Crank/192883539395?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

    I want to change a Singer 99K31 from electric to hand turn. Can you tell me where l can purchase the adapter wheel (with hole in the middle) & the handle (as shown in your video), I'm in Australia & parts are really difficult to source.

      @motorbikewhisperer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We got the parts from a guy in the USA (there are some links in the comments here) but I don't know of any current supplier, sorry. If you can find a handle it shouldn't be that difficult for someone to make the hole for you.

    Why not just switch over the solid hand wheel for a spoked one and get a hand crank?>

    • @Bevaboo
      @Bevaboo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      So that you can continue to use the motor if you want. I'm installing a hand crank for times when I want to be able to go very slowly, because I find it impossible to control the speed using my foot pedal.

    a window crank handle IS NOT GOOD for a featherweight! you will damage the machine

    • @rlea72
      @rlea72 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Can someone please explain how this would damage the machine? I wish people would explain things when they make statements like this. I honestly have no clue and would like to be educated.

    • @kylasmart8278
      @kylasmart8278 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't see how this would damage a machine, as long as the crank isn't hitting anything as you turn it. Which it really shouldn't be able to do anyways. I'd like to hear how this could possibly damage a machine as well.

    • @fpham8004
      @fpham8004 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not necessary going to damage the machine, but you are turning the machine now by the middle knob not flywheel and using the little screw as the point of contact pushing on the tab of the brake . This is a home made solution, not very robust. But I guess ok for small things. The proper way is to put a spoke wheel and then the geared hand crank. But that's the point, it isn't like you can get spoke wheels in wal-mart for vintage machines...

  • @guildfounder
    @guildfounder 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Very poor design, one revolution equals one stitch. Buy a proper geared hand crank and the ratio is one revolution equals 3 stitches. Tripling your sewing speed.
