  • Can I change the propulsion method of my vintage Singer Sewing Machine?
Am I stuck by using the same method of sewing, for instance by using a treadle?
    HELL NO!
You can change it almost any way ‘round: Treadle, motor, hand cranked. Whatever you want. And back again. That is... it ‘helps’ when your machines is equipped with a spoke balance wheel…
I have multiple vids online on Singer sewing machines. Feel free to watch more…

(Might be I used a Sony PDW650 for additional footage.)

Thank you for this beautiful video. I'm going to motorize my vintage treadle sewing machine!! I can't treadle it. The wheel goes forward when I start but backwards after a few inches on my treadling.

Thank you so much for you message. And thank you for the compliment.
Working with a treadle takes a lot of practice. I cannot work with a treadle at all to be honest.
I have another video on motorizing / mechanical or motorized in the making. But that will take a LONG long time to finish that one ;-)
Good luck with you motor and take care.

    Hello,
I have a white sewing machine from 1886. I want to mount a motor but the machine doesn't have a hole under the wheel. Do you have some idea how I would install a motor?

Creative thinking: You could make a larger case or make an extention to the existing case. Then take a motor which you would have used IF you had that hole... Go to your local hardware store and buy a L-profile corner. Attach the L profile to the motor. And drill or clap that unit to the new sewing machine case. Saw a Russian video on a 31k32 with such a 'thing'. Good luck!
