  • Such natural beauty in the World...and we discovered just a slice of this beautiful existence. How tremendously fortunate to meet a most fascinating historical Indigenous Peoples of Central America...who do what we love to do, Natural Fibre Dying. No different, only the Borucans have been doing it for hundreds of years. A heartfelt kinship is how I would describe our experience. Artisans in the mountains of breathtaking valleys. The traditional Mask Carvers, scaring off the Spanish Conquistadors. Jungles and beaches and breathtaking waterfalls, the most colourful birds and wildlife before your eyes in bewilderment. Such is Costa Rica. Come fly away with us. It's not just a journey but another adventure. MORE please!!
    BIG NEWS🤗
We received a grant from the Bay of Quinte Tourism, to develop natural dye classes on our homestead. We are so excited and we can't wait to share our experience with you.

Thank you for a wonderful episode. So many friends of mine have visited Costa Rica for surfing, fly fishing and 😅or luxury vacations. Your experience is more like what I would want. Beautiful I think there’s nothing better than going to a Knitting or Woolley retreat. I have done several with natural dying lectures, new techniques & patterns, etc. etc.. so much fun and you can establish relationships with the other participants. Best of luck on your new business plan. It sounds so exciting.

I am team Jamie, just looking at the video I feel terrified, no thrill . What an adventure, thanks for taking us with you. I love the new orientation your business is taking.
Classes I would love to see are natural dying using as little water as possible. My daughter lives in an area where water is scarce in summer, just engouh for the gardens. I seem to notice the Indigenous Peoples of Central America didn't use much water.

Your step back sounds like a huge and exciting step forward- lots of work and fun ahead for both of you and for all the folks who will be able to take part in your future workshops. Congratulations! Your Costa Rica trip was amazing. I attended a yoga retreat way up in the jungles of Costa Rica about 8 years ago. Such a beautiful country and wonderful warm and enterprising people. Loved the natural waterfalls, amazing wild life, lovely fresh fruit and meals. We had to walk in, crossing a river by holding onto a rope, and hiking up the hill- the prize- 40 acres of pristine jungle for our group of 10 and a small staff, outdoor showers, yoga with wild life on all sides, led by my daughter and a friend. I did manage to break my wrist enroute to chasing a sunrise view at the top of the mountain- all part of the adventure- I still did my yoga (but no plankton position- lol) and enjoyed a wonderful week in paradise with two of my daughters. Bliss! I look forward to hearing more about your new venture. Oh, and Jamie, I noticed that you were working on a new technique of washing and blocking your knits WHILE you were knitting 🧶 them in the pool! Lol!

Congratulations! You both have so much knowledge and skill to share. I would love to participate in a weekend or 4-day workshop. It would be an amazing experience to forage your woods and fields for indigenous plant materials, then dye yarn. Evenings could be spent by a fire, knitting, storytelling...learning about early Indigenous and European natural dye processes. I was heartbroken when your PEI Fibre Festival workshop was canceled due to Fiona.

I am so sympathetic to you, Jamie. I am terrified of mountain roads. Your trip sounds absolutely amazing. Your plans for your workshops are really exciting. I would love more information about this when you get organized and settled into your plans. Love the photos. Horticulture is one of my great hobbies. Beautiful pictures of the plant and animal life. I'm jealous of your experience. Thank you for sharing! 🤗

Hello Cabin Boy's! Wow - what a fantastic trip you had. Thank you so much for sharing it all with us. I'm in the USA in Arizona so I don't know if I would be able to get up north to see you in Canada but honestly a class on basics of dyeing and how to get started would be fantastic. Learning about mordants and what you would use as a fixative based on the fiber of your yarn. Discovering what is in our natural environment that we could use to dye our yarns with - that would be fun too. Learning how to get a consistent dye that doesn't fade or wash out. So many learning opportunities for dyeing. I love that you are thinking of holding workshops. I think you would have a ton of excited people signing up. I love you guys! As always, thanks for sharing! -- Julezze

It’s bedtime Jane. I did nod off. I resumed early this morning to hear about your new endeavors. Good on ya! This is all so thrilling. I too took an experience trip to costa Rica years ago. I was with a friend who had been in US Peace Corps there. We learned and stayed in the rain forest and explored ingenious artists. I wish you the very best on this new life adventure! AND you will be sharing and teaching and it is so super exciting!!!!!

What a most wonderful trip that you have experienced - what an adventure to partake in the workshops, and also to see the wildlife. Wishing you every success with you own future workshops, but I have no doubt it will work out great. Oh to be living in your side of the world, but will get there someday, and now to be able to hopefully participate in a workshop well that would be the icing on the cake. AndJamie speaking of cake, I'd be looking to combine it with you doing a workshop on some Canadian recipes - yep, all of that would be a dream holiday 🥰
